Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of climate change (temperature, humidity, wind speed, rainfall, and rainy days) on environmental-based diseases (DHF and ARI) in Palu City in 2015-2020. This study uses a quantitative method with an ecological study design. The sampling technique used total sampling where the samples were all cases of DHF and ARI from the Palu City Health Office and climate data from the Mutiara Palu Meteorological Station from 2015-2020. Data analysis using multiple linear regression test. The results of the study for the incidence of DHF showed, partially temperature (0.384 > 0.05), wind speed (0.873 > 0.05), rainfall (0.868 > 0.05). 0.05) and rainy days (0.608 > 0.05) had no effect on the incidence of DHF because the significance value was greater than 0.05. Simultaneously the test results obtained are (0.628 > 0.05), meaning that there is no significant effect between climate change and the incidence of DHF in Palu City because the F test results show a significance value greater than 0.05. The incidence of ARI shows that part there is a significant effect of temperature and humidity on the incidence of ARI with the same significant value (0.00 < 0.05) and positive (+) pattern, and there is a significant effect of wind speed and rainfall on the incidence of ARI with the same significant value (0.00 < 0.05) but with a negative pattern. The conclusion is that there is a significant effect of climate change on the incidence of ARI.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Tract Infection (ARI) is one of the contributors to the high morbidity and mortality rates of a toddler. ARIs are mostly suffered by the toddler in developing countries such as Indonesia, where the incidence is always high every year. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between environmental factors and nutritional status with the incidence of ARI in children under five in the Donggala Community Health Center working area. This type of research is quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this research was 32,694 toddlers using the Slovin formula and obtained a sample of 100 toddlers. The sampling used was the Probability Sampling technique. The analysis used was Chi-Square. The variables that are significantly related to the incidence of ARI are nutritional status, smoking behavior, house ventilation, and residential density with a p-value < 0.05. Most of the respondents were malnourished, namely, 58%, had a high risk of exposure to cigarette smoke, which was 64%, and the house ventilation area which was included in the not good category was 57% and the residential density was included in the not eligible category at 59%. Prevention efforts to reduce the incidence of ARI in toddlers are by consuming nutritious food, education about house ventilation, and residential density, and increasing awareness of smoking behavior among parents.

Abstract

Objective: Stunting is a major health emergency in most developing countries, including Indonesia. The total number of stunting children in 2019 in Enrekang Regency is quite high at 44.8%. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge, maternal education level, and the number of family members with the incidence of stunting in elementary school children in rural Enrekang, South Sulawesi. Method: An analytical observational study with a cross sectional approach. The subjects of the study were the mother and her child aged 6-12 years. Data collection using microtoa and questionnaires. 100 total samples were collected based on purposive sampling method. Data analysis using chi-square. Results: This study shows the proportion of stunted children 72.0%, maternal knowledge less 90.0%, low maternal education 66.0%, family size 95.0%. The results of statistical tests showed a significant relationship between maternal knowledge (p = 0.027) and the incidence of stunting. Meanwhile, the level of maternal education (p = 0.992) and the number of family members (p = 0.919) are not related to stunting events. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and stunting events. Increasing health knowledge and nutritional awareness in mothers through health promotion, stunting education with posters and the distribution of leaflets on sustainable stunting is a toll road in tackling chronic nutrition in children in rural Enrekang
