Abstract

The feeding process in infants with cleft lip and palate is greatly influenced by the ability to suck and swallow. Infants with this condition often have difficulty in sucking and swallowing effectively, which can lead to longer feeding duration, fatigue in the infant, risk of aspiration, and decreased nutritional intake. Inefficient oral feeding can inhibit the growth and development of the infant. Therefore, feeding infants with cleft lip and/or palate requires great care and knowledge from the mother. If not treated quickly and appropriately, this condition can cause malnutrition, growth retardation, and other health complications. This study aims to determine the description of feeding and intervention in infants with cleft lip and palate. The method used is meta-analysis, with a range of articles selected from 2015 to 2025. Article searches were carried out systematically and comprehensively through the PubMed, Science Direct, Elsevier, and Google Scholar databases, using the PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) model to determine the eligibility of the article. Articles that met the qualitative criteria were reviewed again, and from this process six articles were obtained that were eligible for quantitative analysis. This meta-analysis showed that infants and children with cleft lip and palate had lower developmental outcomes than those without the condition (effect value -0.41; 95% CI = -0.29 to 0.01). The six primary studies were from countries such as South Africa, the United States, Brazil, and Italy, and were cross-sectional in design.

Abstract

Dental health is an integral part of overall general health, and it is important to instill it early on, especially in elementary school children. One effective way to increase children's awareness and knowledge about the importance of brushing their teeth properly is through fun and easy-to-understand health education and promotion. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the snakes and ladders game media in increasing knowledge of brushing teeth in grade II students of MIN 8 Padang Lawas Utara. This study used a descriptive design with a pretest and posttest approach involving all grade II students as a sample (total sampling). Data were collected by administering questionnaires before and after the implementation of the snakes and ladders game that had been modified with dental health education content. The results showed that before health promotion using snakes and ladders media, the majority of students had a level of knowledge in the moderate and poor categories, each of which was 14 people (46.66%), and only 2 people (6.66%) were in the good category. However, after being given an intervention in the form of an educational snakes and ladders game, all students (100%) experienced a significant increase in knowledge, all of which were in the good category. This shows that the use of educational game media such as snakes and ladders is very effective in conveying dental health information in a fun and easy-to-understand way for children. This study provides a positive contribution in developing innovative, interesting, and appropriate dental health promotion methods for elementary school children, and can be applied in elementary school environments as alternative learning media.

Abstract

Anxiety and sleep disturbances are common complications during pregnancy, affecting maternal well-being and fetal development . Prenatal yoga has emerged as a promising non-pharmacological intervention for addressing these concerns . This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of prenatal yoga in reducing anxiety and improving sleep quality among pregnant women through a mixed-methods randomized controlled trial. A convergent parallel mixed-methods design was employed with 120 pregnant women (20-36 weeks gestation) randomized to intervention (n=60) and control (n=60) groups . The intervention group received 8 weeks of structured prenatal yoga sessions twice weekly, while the control group received standard antenatal care . Quantitative measures included the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), assessed at baseline, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks . Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Significant reductions in anxiety levels were observed in the yoga group compared to controls (p < 0.001) . Sleep quality improved significantly in the intervention group, with PSQI scores decreasing from 7.2 ± 1.8 to 4.1 ± 1.2 (p < 0.001) . Qualitative themes revealed enhanced emotional regulation, increased self-efficacy, and improved pregnancy experiences. Prenatal yoga is an effective intervention for reducing anxiety and improving sleep quality during pregnancy . The integration of quantitative and qualitative findings provides comprehensive evidence supporting the implementation of prenatal yoga programs in maternal healthcare services.

Abstract

Iron plays a crucial role in the body, primarily in the formation of hemoglobin, which transports oxygen in red blood cells. It is especially vital for pregnant women, as sufficient iron is necessary for fetal development. In Indonesia, only 51% of pregnant women receive the recommended 90 Fe tablets during pregnancy, and compliance with consumption is alarmingly low at 37.7%. Data reveals that 48.9% of pregnant women suffer from anemia, with 84.2% of these cases occurring in the 15-24 age group (Indonesian Health Profile, 2021). This study aimed to explore the relationship between maternal knowledge and compliance with Fe tablet consumption at PMB Novi, Panyabungan District, Mandailing Natal Regency. Utilizing a descriptive analytical approach and quantitative methods, the study surveyed 33 pregnant women through total sampling. The results indicated a significant relationship, with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis. This implies that better maternal knowledge correlates with higher compliance in Fe tablet consumption. It is recommended that pregnant women actively seek information on the benefits and proper consumption of Fe tablets to reduce anemia risk. Additionally, health workers should enhance community education regarding maternal health, emphasizing the importance of iron during pregnancy and the advantages of Fe tablet consumption to combat iron deficiency effectively.

Abstract

Abortion results from excessive bleeding due to cervical dilatation. Abortion is a threat or release of the results of conception before the fetus can live outside the womb of gestational age less than 20 weeks. In Indonesia the maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Indonesia is one of the highest in Southeast Asia, which is 228 per 100,000 live births. This research is to find out the determinants of the incidence of abortion in the Regional Hospital of Berkah Pandeglang . This type of research is quantitative analytic with a case control design with a ratio of 1: 1, using medical record data. The study population was all pregnant women in the Hospital of Berkah Pandeglang in 2019 namely 862, in the case of a population of 193 mothers who experienced abortion in 2019, the control population of mothers who did not experience abortion 669 in 2019. Sampling using a total sampling technique was obtained 193 and control samples using systematic random sampling that is 193. Analysis using univariate, bivariate with chi square test and multivariate with multiple logistic regression tests. The results of bivariate analysis obtained variables related to the incidence of abortion, namely age, parity, distance of pregnancy, education, history of abortion. Multivariate analysis results obtained a dominant variable, namely the distance of pregnancy with OR 5.114 after being controlled with parity, education, and history of abortion.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnant women remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia, including in South Tapanuli. Anemia screening is a crucial policy for early detection and timely intervention, yet its implementation in primary healthcare facilities (Tier I) remains suboptimal. Objective: This study aims to analyze the implementation of anemia screening policies for pregnant women in Tier I healthcare facilities across urban-rural areas of South Tapanuli using a mixed-methods approach. Methods: The study employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, combining quantitative data (a survey of 150 pregnant women and 30 healthcare workers) and qualitative data (in-depth interviews with 15 stakeholders, including health workers and policymakers). Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data were examined using framework analysis. Results: Quantitatively, anemia screening coverage reached 68%, with disparities between urban (78%) and rural (58%) areas. Barriers included limited equipment, insufficient healthcare worker training, and low public awareness. Qualitative findings revealed issues in inter-stakeholder coordination, uneven budget allocation, and inadequate policy socialization. Conclusion: The implementation of anemia screening policies in South Tapanuli remains suboptimal, particularly in rural areas. Improvements in infrastructure, healthcare worker training, and culturally adapted community education are needed to enhance screening coverage.

Abstract

Background: Delayed access to first-trimester Antenatal Care (ANC) among pregnant women in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions is a significant public health issue, as it increases the risk of pregnancy complications. This study aims to analyze the socio-economic determinants associated with delayed ANC access in South Tapanuli, a 3T region in Indonesia. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 250 pregnant women selected through purposive sampling in South Tapanuli. Data were collected through structured interviews using a questionnaire covering socio-demographic variables (education, income, occupation, distance to health facilities) and ANC practices. Statistical analysis employed chi-square tests and logistic regression to identify dominant factors influencing ANC delay. Results: A total of 62.4% of respondents delayed accessing ANC in the first trimester. Significant socio-economic factors associated with delayed ANC included low income (OR=3.21; 95% CI: 1.87-5.49), low education (OR=2.45; 95% CI: 1.42-4.22), distance to health facilities >10 km (OR=4.12; 95% CI: 2.34-7.25), and lack of knowledge about ANC importance (OR=2.89; 95% CI: 1.65-5.07). Conclusion: Socio-economic factors such as income, education, geographic access, and maternal knowledge significantly influence delayed ANC access in 3T regions. Community-based interventions and equitable health service policies are needed to improve first-trimester ANC coverage.
