Abstract

The postpartum period begins a few hours after the birth of the placenta and continues until approximately 6 weeks after childbirth. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 830 women die every day due to complications from pregnancy and childbirth. In 2015, approximately 303,000 women died during pregnancy, childbirth, or in the postpartum period. The theme of this study is to investigate the influence of postpartum exercise on the speed of uterine involution among postpartum mothers at BPM Mona Durryah Siregar, SKM in North Padangsidimpuan District. This study utilized a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest only design. The research was conducted at BPM Mona Durryah Siregar, SKM in North Padangsidimpuan District. The population consisted of 10 postpartum mothers, with a sample size of 10. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses. The results of the study showed a significant decrease in uterine fundus height among the 10 respondents, with a percentage of 2.70%. None of the respondents experienced subinvolution after the postpartum exercise intervention. However, 10 respondents faced challenges in decreasing uterine fundus height both before and after the intervention. The Wilcoxon ρ-value test of 0.004 indicates that postpartum exercise influences the speed of uterine involution among postpartum mothers. The implications of this study suggest that implementing postpartum exercise therapy can accelerate uterine involution among postpartum mothers. It is recommended that these findings be used to develop counseling programs related to postpartum exercise at BPM Mona Durryah Siregar, SKM.

Abstract

In adolescents, nutrition is an important factor in the growth and development process, especially during the growth spurt period that occurs in early adolescence and is characterized by physical, cognitive, and reproductive organ growth and maturation of reproductive organs. Inadequate nutrition during adolescence will cause various problems, one of which is anemia. Anemia has negative impacts, including impaired growth and development, decreased learning achievement, and impaired immunity, thus increasing the occurrence of infections and reproductive disorders. This research is quasi-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The research was conducted at Muhammadiyah I Lamongan Vocational School with a total of 44 female students. The sampling technique used in this research was total sampling. Research data analysis was carried out using the paired T-test statistical test. The results of the study showed that carrying out Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) while administering Fe tablets for 12 weeks was able to significantly increase Fe levels in adolescents, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05).

Abstract

Food-borne diseases are the most common health problems globally, and they are particularly common in Third World countries like India due to poor public sanitation and hygiene. Broadly speaking, food poisoning refers to any illness brought on by eating food that contains bacteria or non-bacterial substances. Stated differently, it's an acute instance of gastroenteritis caused by ingesting chemicals-contaminated food or drink, animal or plant-derived poisons, or living microbes and their toxins. Acute gastroenteritis is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. The most vulnerable are newborns and young children. The clinical symptoms of a foodborne infection are determined by the pathogenic mechanisms that underlie it. The main symptoms are headache, nervousness, intense thirst, abrupt vomiting, diarrhea, colicky discomfort, cold, clammy skin, slow heartbeat, rigours, and cramps. The provision of clean, drinkable water, appropriate disposal of human and animal sewage with isolation from water supplies, and fundamental food hygiene standards are all very effective ways to prevent the development of these disorders.

Abstract

A preterm birth is a high-risk event occurring when the gestational age is less than 37 weeks. This can result in adverse outcomes, such as a low birth weight (LBW). The immaturity of the lungs in premature infants increases the likelihood of developing respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). To address this, it is essential to enhance nutritional fulfillment in premature babies with LBW and RDS through targeted intervention. This can be achieved through techniques like massage therapy and nesting installation, which have been shown to stimulate infants' growth and development. The objective of this case study is to determine the effectiveness of combined massage therapy and nesting in increasing the weight of premature babies with LBW accompanied by RDS. The research employed a case study approach. The subjects were premature babies with LBW accompanied by RDS in the perinatology room of the National Referral Hospital in Indonesia. This case study revealed that combined massage and nesting therapy resulted in a 6.1%–7.8% increase in body weight and a stabilization of oxygen saturation from days one to three of therapy. This outcome can be attributed to the fact that massage stimulates the release of gastrointestinal hormones that contribute to weight gain, and that nesting encourages the production of growth hormones resulting from restorative sleep. The integration of these two therapies has been found to significantly enhance body weight and maintain oxygen saturation levels within an optimal range. It is therefore evident that the role of nurses as nursing care providers must be enhanced in order to provide the necessary stimulation interventions for premature babies with LBW accompanied by RDS.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the silent killer diseases known as cardiovascular disease. Increased blood pressure and an unbalanced lifestyle can increase the risk factors for the emergence of various diseases such as coronary arteries, heart failure, stroke, and kidney failure. The purpose of this research is to determine the blood pressure lowering effect of inggir-inggir fruit ethanol extract on normotensive Wistar rats and to determine the blood pressure lowering effect of inggir-inggir fruit ethanol extract on hypertensive Wistar rats. This study uses an experimental method that is to determine the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable with the research stages. The results of statistical analysis showed that the EEBI group doses of 50 mg / kg bw, 100 mg / kg bw and 150 mg / kg bw were not significantly different (p> 0.05) with the control group (CMC-Na 0.5%) or the positive comparison group (bisoprolol) in reducing TDS, TDD, DJ and TAR of normotensive Wistar rats. The results of statistical analysis showed that EEBI doses of 50 mg / kg bw, 100 mg / kg bw and 150 mg / kg bw can reduce TDS, TDD, and TAR of hypertensive Wistar rats significantly (p < 0.05) compared to the normal group without any administration and the CMC-Na 0.5% control group but could not reduce the DJ of hypertensive Wistar rats significantly (p> 0.05) with the normal group without any administration and the CMC-Na 0.5% group. EEBI dose of 50 mg/kg bw is the best group to reduce TDS, TDD and TAR.

Abstract

Poor hand washing of nurses and unhealthy hospital environments contribute to the occurrence of nosocomial infections. Nurses who do not wash their hands before and after the procedure can become an intermediary for infection in patients at the service site or hospital and spread various multi-resistant organisms. This research aims to identify nurses' hand washing compliance and related factors. A descriptive correlation design was conducted in a hospital in West Java. Data on nurse characteristics and hand washing compliance were taken using a five moments test questionnaire cross-sectionally among nurses using the total sampling method and analyzed univariately and bivariately using descriptive analysis and the chi square test. A total of 67 nurses were involved in this research, the majority of respondents were aged 25-35 years (43/64.2%), women (42/62.7%), had a bachelor's degree (36/53.8%), had worked less than 5 years (42/62.7%) , lack of knowledge (35/52.2%), and have a positive attitude (38/56.7%), generally do not comply with hand washing protocols (34/50.7%). The nurse's age is related to hand washing compliance (p 0.002 < α 0.05), while gender (p 0.242), education (p 0.534), length of work (p 0.874), knowledge (p 0.907), and attitude (p 0.397) have α value > 0.05. Nurses' hand washing compliance is still less than the target. Age is related to nurses' compliance in implementing hand hygiene. Meanwhile, gender, education, length of work, knowledge and attitudes are not related to nurse compliance. Efforts are needed to increase nurses' knowledge to increase nurses' compliance in washing hands.

Abstract

The percentage of teenage pregnancies in Indonesia is 0.02% at the age of <15 years and 1.97% at the age of 15-19 years in Portibi sub-district, North Padang Lawas District. Adolescent mothers are known to have low exclusive breastfeeding coverage rates. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that influence exclusive breastfeeding in adolescent mothers in Portibi sub-district, North Padang Lawas Regency. This study used a survey method with a cross-sectional design. The study population was teenage mothers who had babies aged 6-24 months in Portibi sub-district, North Padang Lawas Regency. Data collection using questionnaires. Bivariate analysis used chi square and fisher's exact test while multivariate analysis used logistic regression. The results showed 46.7% of teenage mothers provided exclusive breastfeeding. Bivariate analysis showed that pregnancy status (p=0.029), perceived birth experience (p=0.045), perceived breastfeeding (p=0.005), husband support (p=0.009), family support (p=0.000) were associated with exclusive breastfeeding, education level (p=0.143) and employment status (p=0.352) were not associated with exclusive breastfeeding. Multivariate analysis showed that family support (p=0.014; RP=7.637) and breastfeeding perception (p=0.015; RP=9.746) were associated with exclusive breastfeeding. Family support was the most dominant factor in exclusive breastfeeding among adolescent mothers. Adolescent mothers who received support from their family and had a positive perception of breastfeeding had a 72.7% probability of exclusive breastfeeding.
