Abstract

Tafsir At-Tanwir, the progressive interpretations in it cannot be separated from Muhammadiyah's collective identity. The logical consequence of efforts to understand the interpretations in Tafsir At-Tanwir, directly or indirectly, needs to understand Muhammadiyah's collective identity as a whole. Especially in research focused on environmental issues. This research is a library research using a qualitative approach. The research subject (formal object) is Tafsir At-Tanwir, while the research object (material object) is progressive interpretation that includes environmental discourse as researchers found in Tafsir At-Tanwir. While this research uses a descriptive-analytical type of research, in which it will describe and analyze Tafsir At-Tanwir in which it shows the progressive interpretation of the Qur'an on environmental discourse. This research uses collective identity theory to portray the progressive interpretation in At-Tanwir cannot be separated from Muhammadiyah. These interpretations have critical and creative nuances in responding to environmental problems that exist in contemporary times. Actually, the interpretation of At-Tanwir makes critical efforts towards current actual problems such as illegal logging, environmental pollution, exhaust emissions, which ultimately create global warming. Muhammadiyah's collective identity on environmental issues is divided into three points, namely Muhammadiyah's attitude towards environmental issues based on ideology, the characteristics of Islam Berkemajuan, and Muhammadiyah's attitude.

Abstract

There is a variety of interpretations regarding the verse on the hijab in the Qur'an. Some commentaries demonstrate strong arguments, while others appear to be subjective and ambiguous. This article examines the thoughts of Quraish Shihab on the hijab verse and critically analyzes them. The research falls under the category of library research, utilizing a descriptive analysis method to explain research findings based on the study's focus with a critical analysis to produce objective results. The approach employed is content analysis. The primary sources for this research are the Tafsir Al-Mishbah and Jilbab Pakaian Wanita Muslimah. The research findings indicate: First, Quraish Shihab argues that wearing the hijab is not obligatory but merely a recommendation and is applicable only in the time of Prophet Muhammad. Scholars also do not agree on the limits of women's modesty, and the rules of the hijab are considered part of Arab cultural traditions, not applicable to other nations that do not wear the hijab. Second, Quraish Shihab's interpretation of the hijab verse lacks strong arguments in the context of Islamic studies. The wording of the command in the hijab verse is still regarded as an obligation and cannot be transformed into a recommendation due to the lack of supporting evidence. Scholars have unanimously agreed on the limits of women's modesty, from the top of the head to the tips of the toes, excluding the face and the palms of the hands. The law of the hijab remains in effect until the end of time, even though it was revealed under specific conditions and in specific regions, as Islam is considered a universal religion.

Abstract

Sufi tafsir is a form of interpretation of verses from the Qur'an carried out by Sufis, with a focus on the dimensions of Sufism both in the practice of 'amalî and aspects of nazharî. This research reveals the history of Sufi interpretation and the essential differences between two styles of Sufi interpretation, namely nazharî and 'amalî Sufi interpretation by exploring the epistemology of Sufism in the interpretation process because the author highlights the inaccuracy of general understanding in detailing the fundamental differences between these two styles of Sufi interpretation. The aim of the research is to contribute to a deeper understanding of Sufi interpretation styles and help to detail fundamental differences in the context of Sufism epistemology. By using library research methods and a qualitative approach, the research results show that based on Sufism epistemology, the explanation of levels of meaning in Sufi interpretation is based on extracting meaning (the context of discovery) and explaining meaning (the context of justification). The distinction between the Sufi nazharî and 'amalî interpretation styles lies in the context of justification and the presence of esoteric and exoteric meanings. As for the context of discovery, both are based on mukâsyafah/sufi spiritual experience.

Abstract

This article discusses one of the issues of LGBT, namely transgender, which is now widespread and can be found in many places. Transgender is someone who changes or switches gender from their original gender. This transgender phenomenon is considered deviant because it changes what God has created and violates His nature. The purpose of this paper is to find out the arguments and interpetations regarding this transgender phenomenon by using analysis of maqāṣidi interpretation studies initiates by Abdul Mustaqim and using library research by analyzing Al-Qur’an surat An-Nisa verse 119 and ar-Rum verse 30. There are many reasons for the prohibition of this transgender behavior, interpreters say that transgender phenomenon has violated human nature. By using maqāṣidi interpretation, the prohibition is not only based on the meaning if the text, but if reviewed from the maqashidi, the wisdom of this transgender phenomenon will be found, namely hifz al-din, hifz al-nasl, hifz al-nafs, hifz al-‘aql, dan hifz al-daulah.

Abstract

The Quran, the cornerstone of Islam, underpins the faith, society, and civilization of the Muslim world. As the final divine revelation bestowed upon Prophet Muhammad (SAW), it was his duty to memorize and convey its teachings to his companions. This responsibility extends to the entire Muslim community, especially the ulamas (Islamic scholars), as the Prophet (SAW) emphasized the importance of learning and teaching the Quran. Through the dedicated efforts of ulamas, the Quran has been preserved from any alterations, fulfilling Allah's promise of protection. This research focuses on the translation methodology of Allama Burqaee, a distinguished Persian translator of the Quran. The significance of this study lies in recognizing Allama Burqaee's outstanding contributions to Islamic scholarship. He authored over a hundred works, including translations of the Quran and Hadith, and conducted extensive research on various religions and conflicting beliefs. His tafseer (exegesis) is particularly valuable for students of Islamic studies due to its comprehensive integration of Sunni and Shia scholarly perspectives and ease of access to primary sources. The choice of this topic is motivated by several reasons: (1) To acknowledge Allama Burqaee's efforts in opposing religious innovations (bida'). (2) To understand Allama Burqaee's approach to the Quran, Sunnah, and other Islamic sciences. (3) To highlight his inclusion of diverse scholarly opinions and contemporary ijtihad (intellectual striving). (4) To elucidate his emphasis on the importance of aqeeda (belief), a foundational aspect of Islam. (5) To discuss his call for Muslim unity based on the Quran and Sunnah. The research methodology involves following Allama Burqaee's approach without alterations, providing explanations and critical commentary when necessary. The steps include examining Quranic verses with references, analyzing Hadith and athar (traditions) from primary sources, considering scholarly consensus, and offering concise definitions and examples. This study aims to present a thorough understanding of Allama Burqaee's translation methods and their implications for Islamic scholarship.

Abstract

The production of knowledge on iʿjāz in economy is strongly influenced by the literature on scientific miracles of the Qurʿān. The interpretation of the verses of the Qurʿān pertaining to maʿāsh comes up against the binary logic aimed at constructing a scientific identity by summoning key concepts from mainstream economic thought. This article is based on philology as an art of reading well to shed light on the iʿjāz of the Qurʿān through the use of the words gold and silver and not that of money. It is structured around multidisciplinary approach and a qualitative analysis through the meanings in reference to the literature on the secrets of eloquence and evidence of the inimitability of the Qurʿān. The results showed that the iʿjāz in the use of the words gold and silver invites to live in the world of rizq, as an umwelt or 風土 fūdo. This mode of existence provides resilience against voluntary servitude to the system of monetary creation ex nihilo by the interest loan granted by commercial banks. Such particular way is a thematic interpretation of the verses relating to the means to acquit the rights of the Creator and those of the creatures. It converges like Hénon attractor as a chaotic fractal set with research in history, anthropology and numismatics which does not use the word money.

Abstract

The development of meaning occurs in all words in the world. This happens because humans interact with words from a language so that over time they will develop. These changes can be in the form of specializing a word, expanding a word, increasing the meaning of a word, decreasing the quality of a word, deleting the meaning of a word, or multiplying a meaning. This research focuses on library research by examining the word ta'lamun which is used in the verses of the Qur'an. From the verses of the Qur'an studied, it was found that the word ta'lamun experienced a development in the meaning of the word in terms of specialization of meaning, so that the meaning of ta'lamun has a meaning that adapts to the context of the sentence in which the word ta'lamun is located.

Abstract

Climate change is a serious issue that we must face. It requires action that goes beyond just scientific methods and includes insights from religious teachings. The Holy Qur'an, which often mentions weather and climate, hasn't been fully explored by religious scholars in this area. These texts show weather as a sign of God's power, and as a way to show kindness or punishment. This study suggests a fresh examination of the Qur'an's climate-related stories, looking for links with past weather events and God's messages. It argues that Islamic principles could help us address the climate crisis and encourages religious scholars to apply these ideas to current environmental issues. By examining the Qur'an's descriptions of climate across different regions and times, we aim to connect ancient warnings with today's scientific understanding. The paper calls for a combined approach, where religious perspectives enhance scientific research, leading to a sustainable way of living.
