Abstract

This article explores the strategic communication practices employed by the Patangkai Village Government in Bone Regency to enhance community participation in rural development. Situated in the discipline of communication and public administration, the study responds to the need for participatory development approaches that go beyond top-down planning. The research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method involving in-depth interviews, field observation, and document analysis. Findings indicate that communication strategies—ranging from formal meetings (Musrenbang and Musdes), WhatsApp group messaging, to personalized home visits—play a vital role in shaping community involvement. The study highlights both supporting and inhibiting factors such as leadership transparency, technological access, time constraints, and social hesitancy. While community engagement is gradually improving, challenges remain in reaching marginalized groups and sustaining active participation. The research contributes to the understanding of communication’s function not only as information transmission but as a dialogical and inclusive governance tool. The results emphasize that adaptive and culturally rooted communication strategies are essential for effective participatory development in rural settings. The study concludes that village governments must institutionalize feedback systems and diversify communication approaches to ensure equitable and sustainable engagement. These findings offer practical guidance for local governance and development practitioners.

Abstract

Communication of condolences in the digital era has experienced significant changes with the presence of WhatsApp stickers as a nonverbal medium. This research aims to explore how stickers are used to convey condolences, both from the perspective of the sender and recipient of the message. Using a qualitative approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 active WhatsApp users who had used or received stickers in the context of condolences. The research results show that stickers are chosen by senders to convey empathy visually, overcome language barriers, and maintain a polite impression, especially in relationships that are not too close. Symbols such as flowers, candles, or neutral colors are common choices because they are considered universal. However, message recipients had mixed responses. Most appreciated the sender's good intentions, but some felt that the stickers were less personal and did not convey enough depth of emotion in a situation of intense grief. The potential for miscommunication is also found if the context and sticker symbols are inappropriate or difficult to understand. This study highlights the importance of sensitivity in using WhatsApp stickers as a medium for emotional communication as well as the need for digital literacy to support more empathetic and effective visual communication.

Abstract

The transformation of the digital communication landscape has presented the phenomenon of information disorder that has the potential to construct symbolic violence, especially among Indonesian adolescents as active users of social media. This research aims to analyze how digital communication patterns in the form of information disorder shape and perpetuate symbolic violence, as well as its impact on the communication behavior and social interaction of Indonesian adolescents. Through a narrative literature review approach, this research integrates findings from various academic sources, focusing on the dynamics of digital communication, manifestations of symbolic violence, and interaction patterns on social media. The analysis reveals that information disorder has created new communication patterns that can systematically trigger and perpetuate various forms of symbolic violence in the digital space. The complexity of interactions between digital communication patterns, sociocultural contexts, and the characteristics of social media platforms influences adolescents' vulnerability to this phenomenon. The identified impacts reveal significant changes in adolescents' communication patterns and social interactions, including transformations in how they construct meaning, establish identity, and form social relations in digital spaces. The study also identified that effective communication strategies in impact mitigation should integrate digital literacy with Media and Information Literacy (MIL), supported by participatory communication and community empowerment approaches. The findings make a significant contribution to the development of a more effective communication model in protecting the digital well-being of Indonesian youth.

Abstract

Effective communication between public institutions and the media fosters transparency, accountability, and trust. However, limited empirical research has explored how press releases' structure, delivery, and credibility affect journalists’ satisfaction, particularly within local police institutions. This study examines the effectiveness of press release presentations by the Public Relations Division of the Bone Police Department in enhancing journalists’ information satisfaction. Using a quantitative approach, the study surveyed 26 officially registered journalists affiliated with the unit. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using simple linear regression. The findings reveal a statistically significant positive correlation between press release effectiveness and journalists’ satisfaction (R² = 0.840, p < 0.05). Key influencing factors include message clarity, source credibility, and digital communication platforms. This study contributes to institutional communication literature by highlighting the strategic role of media relations in shaping the perceived value of public information. It provides practical insights for public sector agencies to refine their communication strategies and build stronger relationships with the media, particularly in regions where accurate and timely information is critical. These findings underscore the importance of professional and credible press releases in improving the flow of public information.

Abstract

This study examines political communication in the Qur'anic perspective with the aim of understanding ethical principles that can be applied in today's political life. The background of this study is the emergence of various problems in modern political practices, such as dishonesty, injustice, and lack of transparency. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach through a literature study, which examined Qur'anic verses and commentaries related to communication and leadership. The results show that the Qur'an teaches five main principles in political communication, namely honesty, justice, deliberation (shura), openness, and transparency. These principles are very relevant to the modern political context, as they can strengthen public trust and encourage more just and responsible leadership. This research contributes to providing an Islamic perspective as an ethical foundation for political communication. In conclusion, Qur'anic values remain relevant and important to be applied in building a political system that is more ethical, inclusive, and in favour of common welfare.
