Abstract

Galing plant (Cayratia trifolia L. Domin) is a wild plant that spreads and is easily found in Indonesia, especially in the lowlands, which contains a class of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, polyphenols, alkaloids, terpenoids, and triterpenoids with various pharmacological activities such as antidiabetic, immunomodulatory, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-diarrhea, gout. This study aims to determine the antiinflammatory effect of several fractions of rod galing using the in vitro model of red blood cell membrane stabilization. This study used an ethanol extract fractionated in a liquid-liquid manner with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water as a solvent. Then, the anti-inflammatory effect of each fraction was tested, with a positive control comparison of diclofenac sodium with varying concentrations. Measurement of anti-inflammatory activity was calculated based on the % stability of the red blood cell membrane. The results showed that the ethyl acetate, n-hexane and water fractions from the ethanol extract of galing (Cayratia trifolia L. Domin.) stem had an anti-inflammatory effect based on the % stability of red blood cell membranes, where the ethyl acetate fraction with a concentration of 1000 ppm had the best anti-inflammatory effect with % stability of red blood cell membranes was 91.81%, which was significantly different from the positive control (p<0.05).

Abstract

Breast cancer is a type of cancer with a high prevalence in the world and causes death in women. Chemotherapy is one type of treatment that is widely used. However, the problems of chemotherapy drugs such as side effects, drug resistance and inadequate efficacy. So, to overcome these problems, many natural ingredients have been explored to find anticancer agents that are expected to have good efficacy with minor side effects. Kasumba turate flowers (Carthamus tinctorius Linn.) is a plant from the Asteraceae tribe which is known to contain secondary metabolites with pharmacological activity as anticancer. This study aims to determine the types of secondary metabolites and the cytotoxic activity of the ethanolic extract of Kasumba turate flower against the T47D breast cancer cell line using the MTT assay method. Kasumba turate flower extract was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol solvent, so that a concentrated extract with a weight of 107.8 grams was obtained with a yield value of 10.81%. The extract obtained was then subjected to a phytochemical screening test using the tube method and the results are alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids. In the cytotoxic activity test, the test samples were varied into 7 concentration series, namely 10, 50, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1000 ppm. The positive control used was 5-Fu. Cytotoxic parameter (IC50 value) was determined using GraphPad Prism and obtained IC50 5-Fu value of 65.88 ppm with active category while IC50 of the test sample was 157.3 with moderately active category as anticancer breast.

Abstract

Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) kintamani is a superior agricultural product from Bali. Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) contains many compounds, one of which is caffeine which is beneficial for health and beauty. This study aims to formulate kintamani arabica coffee beans into a gel dosage form. The optimization formula of kintamani arabica coffee bean gel was made using the D-Optimal method using a combination of HPMC and propylene glycol as observation variables and spreadability, pH, and viscosity of the gel preparation as experimental responses. The study of caffeine from the gel preparation was carried out using a Franz diffusion cell. Caffeine content in the gel preparation and its release are determined by spectrophotometric method. The results showed that the amount of HPMC used would increase the viscosity value (+14113.92) and decrease the spreadability (-0.29) and pH (-6.59167E-003) of the gel. The greater the amount of propylene glycol used will decrease the viscosity value (-2484.54) and increase the spreadability value (+0.30) and pH (+0.31802) of the gel. The conclusion of this study is the use of a combination of HPMC and propylene glycol (6%:17%) resulted in the optimum formula with a viscosity value of 44,070 cps, a spreadability value of 3.6 cm, and a pH value of 5.32. The caffeine content obtained in the gel preparation was 188.47 g and the amount of caffeine released from the gel preparation for 6 hours of testing was 4.95%.

Abstract

Acne problem is the most common problem that many people fight for. Even though is not a dangerous thing, but that problem will make the sufferer feel unconfident. Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory disorder with blockage and accumulation of the Keratin materials that caused by Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. Now on, Herbal plant is the most selected one as an acne treatment because of the lack effect for the sufferer than a medical treatment. The plants are Basil (Ocimum sanctum L.) and green Lemongrass (Piper Betle L.). Both of them have a Saponin and Flavonoid as an antimicroba. Therefore, in this research will combine that two of the plants which is then formulated in to the cream form. The cream formulation made with 3 different concentration variances were 15%, 30% dan 45%. The type of the research is an in vitro of experimental research method. Where the cream formula making process done by manually and to measure that inhibition to Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. That in the concentration of 15% has an inhibition 20.02 mm, the concentration of 30% was 21.24 mm and the concentration of 45% was 25.05 mm. Inhibition zone > 20 mm categorized as very strong inhibition. So that, could be conclude the cream Basil Leaf Extract (Ocimum sanctum L.) in combination with Green Betle Leaf Extract (Piper Betle L.) had a potential and most effective concentration as an anti-acne was the third formulation (45% concentration) with an inhibition was 25.5 mm and categorized as a very strong inhibition to Propionibacterium acnes.

Abstract

Malaria is one of the most common mosquito-borne infectious diseases in the world. Globally, deaths due to malaria infection reported in 2019 amounted to 405,000 deaths with a total number of sufferers of around 228 million cases. Although malaria cases have continued to decline in the last five years, including in Southeast Sulawesi Province, there are still regencies/cities in Southeast Sulawesi that have not been free from malaria. Therefore, this disease continues to be a burden of pain. This study aims to describe malaria cases in Southeast Sulawesi during the period from 2016 to 2020 based on epidemiological variables, namely people, place and time. The results showed that in general malaria cases from 2016 to 2020 showed a significant decline, based on place it can be seen that the Muna district was the area with the highest prevalence of malaria throughout the year of observation and North Konawe District as the area with the lowest malaria prevalence. From the people variable, the majority (67%) of malaria cases were men and only 33% were women. Meanwhile, based on the time in five years of observation, the highest malaria prevalence occurred in 2016 and the lowest was in 2020. Malaria prevention and control programs need to be carried out strictly to support the achievement of malaria elimination in all districts and cities in Southeast Sulawesi.
