Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of using greetings as part of the communication system. Greetings not only function as a means of greeting, but also reflect social relations, kinship, and the cultural development of the local community. The development of the times also influences changes in the form of greetings used by the millennial generation, thus causing a shift in meaning and usage. Based on this, this research formulates two main problems, namely: (1) what is the form of greetings in the Malay language of Balai Pungut Village, and (2) how greetings change in the community. The purpose of this research is to describe the form of greetings and analyze the changes that occur in their use. This research is useful theoretically as a contribution to linguistic studies, especially morphology and greeting systems, and practically can be a consideration for educators, researchers, and readers in understanding the dynamics of the Sakai Malay language. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and recording techniques with informants who are native residents of Balai Pungut Village. The data obtained were transcribed, classified, and analyzed using Malay greeting theory. The analysis techniques included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was tested using source and time triangulation. The results showed that greetings among the Malay community of Balai Pungut Village consist of two main categories: kinship greetings (blood and marriage) and non-kinship greetings (customs, religion, and general). There are 18 forms of greetings based on blood or descent, 7 forms of greetings based on marriage, 12 forms of non-kinship greetings, and 25 forms of greeting changes. Furthermore, changes in greetings were found as a result of social interaction, modernization, and the influx of foreign cultures, for example, the change from "Uwan" to "Oma" and "Abah" to "Ayah." These findings demonstrate that language is dynamic and continues to evolve in line with social changes in its society.

Abstract

Contemporary Palestinian poetry represents diverse diasporic experiences shaped by specific social and historical contexts of displacement. One particularly distinctive context is the Palestinian diaspora in Lebanon, which has been profoundly shaped by the 1948 Nakba and prolonged structural marginalization across generations. The poem Li Bayrūt Masā’ al-Khayr by Marwan Makhoul reflects this condition through the symbolic articulation of a Palestinian–Lebanese identity within a single body. This study aims to examine the worldview of the Palestinian diaspora in Lebanon using a genetic structuralism approach. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the research relies on library research and textual analysis of the poem’s lines. The findings reveal that the poem articulates a collective consciousness shaped by the trauma of the Nakba, a prolonged period of historical estrangement spanning from 1948 to the late twentieth century, and a generational crisis of orientation. Moreover, the poem expresses an anti-romantic stance toward suffering, signaling a new ideological consciousness that departs from earlier generations of Palestinian poetry that tended to aestheticize pain and heroic sacrifice. The study concludes that Li Bayrūt Masā’ al-Khayr functions as a medium for articulating a historically grounded, critical, and ethical collective worldview of the Palestinian–Lebanese diaspora. The implications of this research highlight the continued relevance of genetic structuralism in analyzing conflict poetry as a dialectical expression of literary structure, historical experience, and generational shifts in worldview.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the low poetry-reading skills of students at MTSS TI Ranah, characterized by weak intonation, expression, articulation, and self-confidence. Limited learning facilities influenced this condition, the absence of structured poetry-reading training, and a lack of qualified Indonesian-language teachers. The activity used a performance-based learning approach to improve students’ poetry-reading skills through systematic training and direct practice. Data were collected using observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation during the implementation of the training program. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative and quantitative descriptive techniques to examine changes in students’ performance and participants’ responses to the activity. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ poetry-reading skills after the training, particularly in intonation, expression, articulation, pauses, and emotional engagement. Students also demonstrated increased confidence and enthusiasm in performing poetry in front of others. In conclusion, performance-based learning proved to be a practical approach for enhancing poetry Reading skills and fostering students’ appreciation of literary performance in Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

Poetry as a literary work is a form of linguistic expression that is rich in signs which construct meaning and represent human experiences and life reflections. This study employs a qualitative method using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic approach, focusing on the relationship between signifier and signified in poetry. The research data are obtained from four poems in the poetry collection Tanah Laut Separuh Nafasku by Ida Komalasari. Data collection is conducted through close reading and note-taking techniques on words, phrases, and poetic lines containing signifier and signified elements. Data analysis is carried out by identifying signifiers and signifieds and interpreting their relationships to reveal the meanings constructed in the poems. The findings indicate that the distinctive characteristic of Ida Komalasari’s poetry lies in the use of signifiers derived from bodily experiences, time, and human biological conditions to form signifieds that represent existential reflections on mortality, loneliness, and human limitations. The relationship between signifier and signified produces contemplative and personal meanings, distinguishing Ida Komalasari’s poems from abstract tendencies in existential poetry.

Abstract

Ideally, imperative speech is delivered in the most polite language. This is because in the imperative speech there is a desire for others to be willing to do something intended in a speech. Through the use of polite language, it is hoped that the governed party will not feel offended by the speech conveyed. However, the reality in society shows the fact that children are contaminated with inappropriate speech patterns. This is influenced by a number of factors, including educational background, economy, social environment, and family environment. The solution offered to increase student awareness in applying imperative politeness is to conduct training in linguistic politeness and imperative pragmatic politeness. The results of this PkM show that there is an increase in students' understanding in applying language politeness to imperative speech. Broadly speaking, students prefer to use pragmatic politeness over linguistic politeness. In pragmatic politeness, the dominant criterion used is imperative pragmatic politeness in interrogative speech. Meanwhile, linguistic politeness is conveyed through the short length of speech, the order of speech, and the use of expressions marking politeness. Imperative entities are ensured to be always present in learning activities in the classroom and outside the classroom. Therefore, teachers should also maximize the use of polite imperatives when communicating with students.

Abstract

Education in the era of globalization in Indonesia faces challenges in maintaining national identity while simultaneously shaping a young generation with strong character and competitiveness. One effort to address this challenge is through strengthening the values of the Pancasila Student Profile. This study aims to analyze the values of the Pancasila Student Profile contained in the folklore Legenda Batang Paing Kuantan Singingi. This research employs a qualitative approach using the content analysis method. The data source is the text of the folklore, while the research data consist of phrases, sentences, and quotations that reflect the six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile. Data analysis techniques include determining research focus, coding, calculating the frequency of value occurrences, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings indicate that all dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile are present in the folklore. The value of faith in and devotion to Almighty God appears most dominantly, reflecting the strong religiosity and moral values of the local community. The values of mutual cooperation and independence emerge with moderate intensity through the actions of the main character in helping others and facing life challenges. Meanwhile, the values of global diversity as well as critical and creative reasoning appear in a smaller proportion, mainly through attitudes of respecting traditions, decision-making, and adaptability to the environment. These findings demonstrate that Legenda Batang Paing Kuantan Singingi not only contains general character values but also represents a hierarchy of Pancasila Student Profile values that are relevant as a source of character education based on local wisdom.

Abstract

The globalization era demands that Indonesia's younger generation possess strong character rooted in national values, in addition to academic intelligence. In response, the Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes strengthening the Pancasila Student Profile, which requires a contextual learning approach. Folklore, as one form of local wisdom, is considered a potential medium for effective character education. This study aims to identify and analyze the values of the Pancasila Student Profile in the folktale Legenda Sungai Tapung from Rokan Hulu. This research employs a qualitative approach using content analysis method. Data were collected through non-participant observation, documentation of the book Legenda Sungai Tapung, Kumpulan Cerita Rakyat Rokan Hulu, and field notes. Data analysis techniques were carried out through unitizing, category development, coding, frequency counting, and interpretation. The results show that all six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile are represented in the legend. The dimension of faith, devotion to God Almighty, and noble character is the most dominant (found in 7 quotations), followed by the dimension of cooperation (5 quotations), independence (3 quotations), critical reasoning and creativity (2 quotations each), and global diversity (1 quotation). This research concludes that Legenda Sungai Tapung not only serves as cultural preservation but is also a rich source of values for strengthening character education in accordance with the Pancasila Student Profile in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze directive speech acts in the TikTok comment section of @ayahamanah related to Ustaz Hanan Attaki's video "Be the best version of yourself" (May 3, 2025) with a focus on the functions of requesting, advising, recommending, asking, and requesting. The method used is qualitative with content analysis techniques, collecting data from the top 21 comments reflecting spiritual interactions on social media. The results show that the directive speech act of advising is the most dominant with 10 data (47.6%), followed by asking 4 data (19%), requesting and recommending 3 data each (14.3%), and requesting 1 data (4.8%). The dominance of speech acts of advising reflects the tendency of netizens to convey encouragement for self-change and spiritual motivation in the context of digital da'wah. This finding underscores that online religious communication prioritizes constructive speech acts as a means of strengthening community faith, with advice functioning as an invitation to istiqamah and asking as spiritual clarification. This study contributes to the understanding of Islamic communication patterns on TikTok that are harmonious and persuasive.
