Abstract

This study aims to analyze the inductive and deductive reasoning abilities of elementary school students in mathematics learning. This research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Data collection was conducted through Google Scholar and Scopus using the Publish or Perish application, with inclusion and exclusion criteria based on relevant keywords and specified publication years. Article selection followed the PRISMA flow diagram. Based on the analysis of 12 selected articles, the findings indicate that students’ inductive and deductive reasoning abilities remain relatively low, particularly in understanding problems, connecting information, and constructing solution steps. Several factors influencing these abilities include teacher-centered learning, the dominance of procedural exercises, and low student engagement in learning activities. Furthermore, the implementation of contextual learning approaches, such as Project Based Learning and Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (PMRI), has been shown to improve students’ reasoning abilities in mathematics learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Wordwall game-based educational media in improving elementary school students' logical mathematical thinking skills on set theory material. The research used a pre-experimental method with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research subjects were 31 elementary school students. Data were collected through tests, observation, and documentation. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the nonparametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test because the data were not normally distributed according to the Shapiro-Wilk test results. The results showed that the use of context-based Wordwall media was effective in improving students' logical mathematical thinking skills. This is evidenced by an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results. A total of 27 students showed an increase in scores, 1 student showed a decrease, and 3 students' scores remained the same. Learning through Wordwall was able to create an active, interactive, and enjoyable learning atmosphere, helping students understand set theory concepts more concretely. Thus, context-based Wordwall media can be an innovative alternative in elementary mathematics learning to develop students' logical mathematical thinking skills.

Abstract

Abstract This research is motivated by the importance of learning independence and mathematical creativity in supporting students' success in mathematics learning. This study aims to determine the relationship between learning independence and mathematics learning outcomes, the relationship between mathematical creativity and mathematics learning outcomes, and the relationship between learning independence and mathematical creativity together on mathematics learning outcomes of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Idanogawo. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational research type. The study population was 73 grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 3 Idanogawo in the 2025/2026 academic year, with a sample of 25 students determined using the Cluster Random Sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through a learning independence questionnaire, a mathematical creativity test, and a mathematics learning outcome test. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, normality tests, linearity tests, Pearson Product Moment correlations, multiple correlations, and coefficients of determination with the help of the SPSS program. The results of the study showed that there was no significant relationship between learning independence and mathematics learning outcomes (sig. = 0.303 > 0.05), there was a significant relationship between mathematical creativity and mathematics learning outcomes (sig. = 0.022 < 0.05), and there was a relationship between learning ability and mathematical creativity together on mathematics learning outcomes with a contribution of 22%. Thus, mathematical creativity has a more dominant role in the overall mathematics learning outcomes of students.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effect of gamification using the Kahoot platform on students’ motivation and mathematics learning outcomes in data and diagram material for seventh-grade junior high school students. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 40 students from SMP Swasta Kristen Agios Nikolaos Gunungsitoli, divided into 20 students in the experimental class and 20 students in the control class. The experimental class received mathematics learning through Kahoot-based gamification, while the control class received conventional instruction. Data were collected using pretest and posttest scores, a learning motivation questionnaire based on the ARCS model, and observation sheets. Data analysis was conducted using Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene’s Test, Mann-Whitney U test, and N-Gain analysis with SPSS version 24. The results showed a significant difference in posttest scores between the experimental and control classes (Sig. = 0.046 < 0.05), indicating that Kahoot-based gamification affected students’ posttest scores. However, no significant differences were found in learning motivation and N-Gain scores. These findings suggest that Kahoot is more effective in influencing final learning outcomes than directly improving students’ learning motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical representation ability of eighth-grade junior high school students in Problem Based Learning (PBL) assisted by Student Worksheets (LKPD) on the topic of straight-line equations. The low mathematical representation ability of students became the background of this study, where students often experience difficulties in presenting mathematical ideas in various forms of representation. This study employed a quantitative descriptive design with samples selected using cluster random sampling technique, namely random selection of one class from all eighth-grade classes considered homogeneous, resulting in class VIII-A with 25 students at SMPN 1 Gunungsitoli Utara. The instrument used was a written description test consisting of 3 items covering three indicators: words or written text, visual representation, and equations or mathematical expressions. Categorization used the mean and standard deviation criteria based on Arikunto (2010). Results showed that students' mathematical representation ability was generally in the medium category with a mean of 71.33, maximum score of 83.33, and minimum score of 41.66. The words or written text indicator reached 52%, visual representation 60%, and equations or mathematical expressions 60% in the medium category. Thus, students' mathematical representation ability across all three indicators was predominantly in the medium category.

Abstract

The mathematical problem-solving ability of junior high school students in Indonesia is still relatively low. The learning process still relies heavily on lecture-based methods and makes limited use of interactive media, creating a need for innovative teaching materials such as the guided inquiry method. This study aimed to develop a mathematics learning module based on guided inquiry that is valid, practical, and effective for the topics of triangles and quadrilaterals. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) model using the ADDIE approach. The sample consisted of 13 eighth-grade students from SMP N 2 Serang, selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments included validation questionnaires, student and teacher response questionnaires, and a problem-solving test (pretest–posttest). The resulting module was validated by material experts at 90.76%, media experts at 100%, and language experts at 90%, all of which fell into the “very good” category. The practicality test showed positive results, with teacher responses reaching 91.11% (very good) and student responses 71.25% (good). Normality testing using the Shapiro–Wilk test indicated that the data distribution was close to the diagonal line, suggesting a normal distribution. The t-test results showed a significant increase in scores between the pretest and posttest, with an average difference of 18.54 points. However, the normalized gain calculation produced an average g value of 47.21%. This value falls into the moderate category but is classified as less effective based on learning effectiveness criteria. Therefore, although the module was able to produce a statistically significant improvement, its practical effectiveness in enhancing students’ problem-solving abilities remained limited, and it cannot yet be considered optimally effective.
