Abstract

This research analyzes the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically ChatGPT, in the development of Arabic teaching modules based on the Merdeka Curriculum. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the extent to which ChatGPT can produce learning content that matches the unique characteristics of Arabic, including linguistic and cultural aspects. This research was conducted by creating teaching modules for seventh grade students using ChatGPT and analyzing their compliance with Merdeka Curriculum standards. The results show that ChatGPT is able to produce teaching modules with good structure and relevance, but there are still challenges related to accuracy and contextual appropriateness, especially in understanding Arabic grammar (nahwu and sharaf) and cultural aspects. Therefore, although AI can help teachers in lesson planning and preparation of teaching materials, further supervision and adjustments are needed to maintain the validity and relevance of the materials. The main finding of this study is the importance of human-AI collaboration in optimizing AI-generated materials. While ChatGPT provides efficiency in content generation, human intervention is essential for fine-tuning linguistic accuracy and cultural contextualization. This concept of collaboration supports the theory of Human-AI Collaborative Teaching Material Development, which emphasizes that AI serves as an auxiliary tool in structuring and systematizing teaching materials, while humans act as the author.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using the Dictionary of Balaghah Terms in improving students' understanding of Balaghah courses. The low understanding of abstract Arabic terminology is often a major obstacle for students in mastering this discipline. This study uses a quantitative approach with a One Group Pretest-Posttest pre-experimental design. The population as well as the sample in this study were all 5th-semester students of the Arabic Language Education Study Program at Yudharta Pasuruan University, totaling 9 students (saturated sampling). Data were collected through test instruments and analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Paired Sample T-Test using SPSS. The results showed a significant increase in the mean score from 53.78 at the pre-test to 89.11 at the post-test. The results of the hypothesis test showed a significance value of < 0.001 (p < 0.05), which means there is a significant influence of the use of the dictionary on students' understanding. In addition, the Cohen’s d value of 2.154 indicates a level of effectiveness in the very large (Large) category. It can be concluded that the Dictionary of Balaghah Terms is a very effective learning medium for improving students' cognitive competence in understanding Balaghah concepts deeply.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation and challenges of digitally based Arabic language learning in madrasah. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving Arabic language teachers, students, and school administrators. The data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that digital media have shifted teachers' and students' perceptions of Arabic language learning from a grammar-oriented approach toward more communicative, contextual, and student-centered practices. However, the implementation remains fragmented due to variations in teachers' digital literacy, limited technological infrastructure, and the absence of institutional policies supporting digital learning. This study contributes to the understanding of digital transformation as a pedagogical-institutional process shaped by the interaction among technology, pedagogical practices, institutional readiness, and organizational culture. The findings provide practical recommendations for strengthening digital learning policies and teacher professional development in madrasah.

Abstract

This study examines the transformation of dormitory-based Arabic language learning in developing students’ communicative competence at Sunan Drajat Islamic Boarding School, Lamongan. It explores the shift from classroom-centered instruction toward environment-based communicative learning through the implementation of bi’ah lughawiyah in dormitory settings. Previous studies have mainly viewed bi’ah lughawiyah as a supporting language environment or examined its impact on specific language skills, with limited attention to its role as an integrated pedagogical system. This study employed a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through moderate participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving students, dormitory supervisors, and Arabic language teachers. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal a pedagogical transformation characterized by the integration of formal instruction, structured bi’ah lughawiyah, intensive social interaction, and the development of students’ communicative competence through sustained input, meaningful interaction, and contextualized language use. The study’s primary contribution is the Integrative Communicative Immersion Model, which extends previous research by conceptualizing dormitory-based Arabic learning as an integrated pedagogical system in which formal instruction, structured language environment, and sustained social interaction function as interconnected components of communicative language acquisition. This model provides a conceptual framework for designing and managing environment-based Arabic language learning in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the implementation of Muhadatsah Arabiyah in developing students’ speaking skills and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors at MTs Al-Munawwarah. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and documentation for data collection. The findings showed that the implementation was conducted through planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The learning process emphasized dialogue memorization, guided conversation, and contextual communication activities, enabling students to gradually improve their confidence, vocabulary mastery, and communicative ability in Arabic. The effectiveness of the implementation was supported by the interaction of a conducive language environment, communicative teaching methods, contextual learning materials, and students’ motivation. Meanwhile, limited vocabulary mastery, the less optimal physical design of the textbook, and demanding vocabulary targets became the main inhibiting factors. This study concludes that speaking skill development depends not only on the textbook itself but also on its integration with a supportive language environment and communicative learning practices, contributing practical insights for Arabic language teaching at the MTs level.

Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of AI-based Voicemaker in improving Arabic listening skills (maharah al-istima') among seventh-grade students at MTs Alif Laam Miim Surabaya. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was employed, involving all 47 students who were assigned to an experimental group using Voicemaker and a control group receiving conventional instruction. Data were collected through listening achievement tests and questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk test, Levene's test, the Independent Samples t-test, and the Mann–Whitney U test with JASP software. The findings revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.001), with the experimental group obtaining a higher mean score (54.76) than the control group (44.71). The Mann–Whitney U test confirmed a significant difference with a large effect size (0.681), indicating that Voicemaker substantially improved students' Arabic listening skills. Its AI-based Text-to-Speech technology provided clear, natural, and repeatable audio, enabling students to improve pronunciation, intonation, and listening comprehension. This study contributes empirical evidence supporting the integration of AI-assisted Text-to-Speech technology into Arabic listening instruction, offering educators an effective, interactive, and learner-centered instructional approach.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of linguistic intelligence in reading non-vocal (unvoweled) Arabic texts among students of the Arabic Language Education program at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving five purposively selected students who had completed the Arabic reading course. The results show that linguistic intelligence contributes to reading through three interrelated mechanisms: analyzing morphological patterns (sharf) to infer case endings (i’rab) without diacritical marks, using grammatical and semantic context to resolve ambiguity in homographic word forms, and linking a word’s syntactic function to the overall meaning of the sentence before finalizing the reading. Students with higher linguistic intelligence apply these analytical processes automatically and read fluently and confidently, whereas students with limited linguistic competence rely on literal, word-by-word reading and struggle at points requiring case-ending judgments and the interpretation of complex sentences. The specific contribution of this study lies in showing that linguistic intelligence does not translate into reading skill automatically, but operates through a graded cognitive pathway from morphological analysis to contextual interpretation to meaning construction. Theoretically, this deepens understanding of how linguistic intelligence operates within the theory of multiple intelligences; practically, it informs the design of reading-instruction strategies that specifically train this analytical pathway.

Abstract

This study investigates Indonesian passive translation patterns from Arabic active constructions through semantic-pragmatic analysis. The complexity of Arabic naḥwu produces varied uslūb for high accuracy of meaning, often resulting in rigid translations in the qawā'id wa tarjamah method in Indonesia. Online news data (BBC, Aljazeera) revealed seven patterns in which Arabic active verb compositions were translated as Indonesian passives. Arabic's rich grammatical system often employs active verb patterns—such as fi‘il + maf‘ūl bihi (ḍamīr) + fā‘il, tamma/yatimmu + maṣdar variants, and relative clause structures—that yield more idiomatic passive renderings in Indonesian, as confirmed by expert discussions and AI tool consistency checks (Reverso Context, Google Translate, Perplexity, ChatGPT). Seven distinct patterns are identified, emphasizing lexical composition and implicature theory over traditional majhūl/maf‘ūl focus, enabling precise, natural translations for Arabic-Indonesian pedagogy. The findings imply the importance of understanding active-passive translation beyond the traditional majhūl-maf'ūl contrastive material.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the muhadharah program as an effort to develop the Arabic speaking skills (maharah kalam) of female students at Ummu Sulaim Girls' Islamic Boarding School. A qualitative case study approach was employed using observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that the implementation of the muhadharah program consists of three interconnected stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The program has contributed positively to improving students' self-confidence, vocabulary acquisition, and willingness to speak in public. Nevertheless, the findings indicate that the improvement of speaking competence has not yet reached an optimal level because the learning process remains predominantly oriented toward memorization-based speech delivery. Such an approach enables students to reproduce prepared texts accurately but provides limited opportunities to develop spontaneous oral communication, interactive language use, and communicative fluency, which are essential components of maharah kalam. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the program is influenced by several supporting factors, including a conducive Arabic-speaking environment, consistent scheduling, and guidance from supervisors. Conversely, limited vocabulary mastery, students' anxiety when speaking, and the lack of varied communicative teaching strategies constitute the primary obstacles to achieving better learning outcomes. These findings suggest that the effectiveness of the muhadharah program depends not only on the continuity of its implementation but also on the pedagogical approaches adopted during the learning process. Therefore, integrating communicative language teaching strategies, interactive speaking activities, and performance-based assessment is recommended to maximize students' speaking proficiency. This study contributes to the literature by providing an empirical analysis of the implementation of the muhadharah program in a female Islamic boarding school context and by identifying pedagogical aspects that require improvement to optimize the development of Arabic speaking skills. The findings may serve as a practical reference for Islamic boarding schools and Arabic language educators in designing more communicative and effective speaking development programs.
