Abstract

Background: Postpartum hemorrhage remains one of the leading causes of maternal mortality worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Midwives working in remote and border areas play a critical role in managing obstetric emergencies; however, they frequently encounter limited resources, restricted access to healthcare facilities, and geographical barriers that affect the quality of maternal healthcare services. Objective: This study aimed to explore midwives' experiences in managing postpartum hemorrhage emergencies in remote and border areas of Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan. Methods: This study employed a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach. Seven midwives were selected using the snowball sampling technique. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis. The trustworthiness of the data was ensured through the criteria of credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability based on the Lincoln and Guba framework. Results: The findings identified five major themes: (1) early recognition of postpartum hemorrhage; (2) emergency management of postpartum hemorrhage; (3) challenges in providing care in remote and border areas; (4) clinical decision-making and professional responsibility; and (5) midwives' adaptation and resilience. The results indicate that successful management of postpartum hemorrhage depends not only on midwives' clinical competence but also on their ability to make rapid clinical decisions, adapt to limited resources, and effectively coordinate referral systems. Conclusion: Effective management of postpartum hemorrhage emergencies in remote and border areas requires a combination of clinical competence, sound clinical decision-making, adaptive capacity, and responsive referral systems. Strengthening midwives' capacity and ensuring equitable distribution of healthcare resources are essential to improving the quality of emergency obstetric care and reducing maternal mortality in underserved areas. Suggestion: Governments and healthcare providers are encouraged to strengthen continuous professional training for midwives, improve obstetric referral systems, and ensure equitable access to healthcare personnel, essential medical equipment, medications, and supporting facilities in remote and border areas. Future studies are recommended to explore the perspectives of other key stakeholders and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions aimed at strengthening emergency obstetric care in resource-limited settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Premarital sexual behavior among adolescents remains a serious reproductive health problem in Indonesia, partly caused by a lack of knowledge about the dangers of free sex. Technology-based learning innovations suited to adolescent characteristics, such as Quizizz and animated video, are needed. This study aimed to analyze the difference in effectiveness between these two media in improving knowledge among adolescents aged 15–18 years at SMK PGRI 1 Kediri City. Methods: A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design was used. A sample of 126 grade XI students was divided into a Quizizz group (Visual Communication Design department, 63 respondents) and an animated video group (Computer and Network Engineering department, 63 respondents) using cluster random sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann-Whitney U Test. Results: The Wilcoxon test for the Quizizz group showed p=0.089 (not significant), while the animated video group showed p=0.000 (significant). The Mann-Whitney test showed p=0.000, with a higher mean rank for the animated video group (76.53) than Quizizz (50.47), indicating that animated video was more effective. Discussion: Animated video is more effective because visual and audio delivery of material is easier for adolescents to understand, while Quizizz tends to function as an evaluation medium, making it less optimal for improving knowledge. Conclusion: Animated video was proven more effective than Quizizz in improving knowledge among adolescents aged 15–18 years about the dangers of free sex, so this medium can be recommended as a reproductive health education method more suitable for adolescent characteristics.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease closely linked to dietary habits. For postpartum mothers, selecting a healthy and nutritionally balanced diet plays a crucial role in maintaining health and reducing the future risk of developing Diabetes Mellitus. However, limited knowledge regarding appropriate food choices can hinder the adoption of a healthy diet. Health education utilizing the Blooket platform is expected to improve postpartum mothers' knowledge regarding healthy food selection. This study aims to analyze the impact of education on food selection using Blooket on the knowledge of postpartum mothers. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study population consisted of 36 postpartum mothers in the Sukorame Community Health Center (Puskesmas) area. A total sample of 36 respondents was selected using the total sampling technique. Data were collected via a questionnaire on food selection knowledge and analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test at a 5% significance level. Results: Prior to the Blooket-based education, the postpartum mothers' knowledge levels fell into the moderate and high categories. Following the intervention, all respondents fell into the high knowledge category. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test yielded a Z-value of -5.094 and a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05), indicating a significant effect of the Blooket-based food selection education on the mothers' knowledge. Discussion: Education using Blooket is effective in enhancing postpartum mothers' knowledge regarding food selection. The presentation of material—concise, systematic, and accompanied by illustrations—facilitated respondent understanding and allowed the content to be reused for independent study. Therefore, Blooket has the potential to serve as an alternative health education tool to improve postpartum mothers' knowledge regarding healthy food choices during the postpartum period.
