Abstract

General background: Integration between Islamic educational institutions and universities is essential to strengthen quality and sustainability. Specific background: Ma’had Umar bin Al Khattab Sidoarjo, originally established by the Asia Muslim Charity Foundation, was later integrated into the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo (FAI UMSIDA). Knowledge gap: Previous studies have discussed pesantren–school integration, but little attention has been given to Ma’had–university integration from a management perspective. Aims: This study examines the management of Ma’had’s integration into FAI UMSIDA, focusing on human resources, curriculum, and student affairs. Results: Using a qualitative field research approach with observation, interviews, and document review, the study reveals that a semi-integration model was applied, allowing Ma’had to maintain autonomy while aligning with university systems. Novelty: The study introduces a management framework where semi-integration preserves institutional identity yet fosters structural coordination. Implications: Findings provide guidance for Islamic higher education institutions undergoing similar transitions and contribute to theoretical development in Islamic education management. Highlights: Semi-integration sustains Ma’had autonomy within university systems. Management covers HR, curriculum, and student affairs restructuring. Offers a framework for Islamic higher education integration. Keywords: Ma’had Integration; Islamic Education; Curriculum Management; Human Resources; Student Affairs

Abstract

General background: The integration of technology in education is essential to achieve high-quality learning and ensure engaging, effective teaching practices. Specific background: Muhammadiyah schools, as part of Islamic-based education, face challenges in sustaining learning quality, particularly after the pandemic period when digital tools were widely adopted. Knowledge gap: While previous studies focused on the temporary role of digital platforms during emergency remote teaching, little is known about the long-term sustainability of MUMTAZ SMART in elementary school contexts. Aims: This study investigates how the MUMTAZ SMART application supports teaching and learning processes at Muhammadiyah 1 Taman Elementary School. Results: Findings reveal that the application strengthens instructional planning, online interaction, digital resource access, and evaluation, although challenges remain in teacher readiness, digital literacy, and infrastructure. Novelty: Unlike earlier research, this study highlights the continuous use of MUMTAZ SMART beyond the pandemic as a structured quality improvement tool. Implications: The results suggest that MUMTAZ SMART can serve as a model for other Muhammadiyah schools to institutionalize digital-based quality learning management.Highlights: Supports sustainable digital learning quality Identifies challenges in teacher and infrastructure readiness Offers a replicable model for Muhammadiyah schools Keywords: MUMTAZ SMART, Digital Education, Muhammadiyah School, Learning Quality, Educational Innovation

Abstract

General background: Education plays a crucial role in shaping balanced human character that integrates intellectual, emotional, and social dimensions. Specific background: In the context of Islamic education, QS. Al-Ma’un emphasizes empathy, caring, tolerance, and social responsibility, values highly relevant for elementary education within Muhammadiyah schools. Knowledge gap: Although studies on Islamic character education exist, few specifically explore the implementation of QS. Al-Ma’un in primary Muhammadiyah schools. Aims: This study aims to analyze how the values of QS. Al-Ma’un are applied to strengthen students’ social attitudes and religious character. Results: Using a qualitative case study approach with interviews, observations, and documentation, the findings reveal that students consistently demonstrated empathy, cooperation, tolerance, politeness, and environmental responsibility in daily school activities. Novelty: The research highlights the integration of QS. Al-Ma’un values into school routines as a practical framework for nurturing social character at an early educational stage, with a focus on Muhammadiyah schools. Implications: These findings suggest that embedding Al-Qur’anic values through habituation and teacher modeling not only reinforces religious behavior but also cultivates harmonious social interactions, offering practical insights for strengthening Islamic character education in contemporary elementary settings.Highlights: Strengthening students’ religious character through QS. Al-Ma’un values. Developing empathy, tolerance, and responsibility in daily school life. Habituation as an effective strategy for shaping social attitudes. Abstract

General Background: Teacher motivation is a crucial determinant of educational quality, influencing teaching performance, student engagement, and school outcomes. Specific Background: At SD Muhammadiyah 1 Candi, Sidoarjo, understanding the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation of fourth-grade teachers is essential to optimize learning processes. Knowledge Gap: Despite existing studies on teacher motivation, limited research has explored the application of Herzberg’s two-factor theory in the context of Muhammadiyah elementary schools. Aim: This study aims to analyze the intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors influencing fourth-grade teachers’ teaching performance. Methods: A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using in-depth interviews, classroom observations, questionnaires, and documentation, with data analyzed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Results: Findings indicate that intrinsic motivation—personal satisfaction, teaching enthusiasm, and professionalism—is the primary driver of teacher performance, while extrinsic factors such as salary, social recognition, and work environment serve as reinforcing elements. Novelty: The study highlights the dominant role of intrinsic motivation within a Muhammadiyah school context, emphasizing the interplay between personal dedication and institutional support. Implications: Strengthening intrinsic motivation alongside adequate extrinsic support fosters productive teaching conditions, improving learning quality. Highlights: Intrinsic motivation drives teacher performance. Extrinsic factors reinforce, not lead, motivation. Herzberg’s theory applicable in Muhammadiyah schools. Keywords: Teacher Motivation, Intrinsic Motivation, Extrinsic Motivation, Elementary School, Muhammadiyah
