Abstract

What can Christian Theology contribute for Indonesian citizen? That is the leading question for this elaboration and theological reflection on the patterns of relationship among Indonesian people. Living in the context of various cultures, religions, various types of land-islands-archipelago, people take into account two categories to relate one another, namely kinship and friendship. Kin relationship (=bersaudara, having blood relation, coming from the same ancestors, the same genealogy) dominates the way to relate one another. Although the categorization of kin is limited only to those from the same genealogy, this type of category is applied to those outside the genealogy, such as in the expression, ‘we are family’, kita semua bersaudara. This ideal of relationship among the citizens is promoted to bridge the various differences (=bhinneka), though all realize that the unity (=ika) is always in danger and fragile. Another recognized categorization of relationship among the people is friendship (=sahabat, teman, mitra, partner, kolega, pela gandong, semangat korps, etc), which acknowledges and accept the difference among those from different genealogies, cultures, religions, but it is not seen as limitation to be together and act together. Therefore, Theology has to develop the idea of Christian friendship (Yoh 15: 13-15) along with the one of brotherhood, fraternity, in order to build communion among the citizens.

Abstract

The main focus of this simple papers was intended to briefly describe the nature of the role and exsistence of religions in developing the Integrated State of the Republic of Indonesia through these three perspectives: 1) philosophy (nature or essence of religion in the context of philosophy), 2). Socio-politics (role of religion in the context of social life and its influence to legacy of the public policy. 3). Ethics and morality (role of religion in grounding and constructing the values of Indonesian’s nation-state). The last section of this papers would be the conclusion about the actualization of religious life in Indonesia by which we used the terms of being religion as a ‘gift or blessing for all mankind’.

Abstract

The focus of this paper is the correlation between the meaning of Bonet dance in Dawan society with the concept of relations with Martin Buber. The Bonet dance for the Dawan community (TTU Regency, NTT Province) is a dance that expresses harmonious unity and unity marked by a dance around, circling while holding hands, whereas relations acording to Martin Buber are harmonious and mutual relations between humans and humans. There is a correlation between the bonet dance with the concept of Martin Buber relations. This paper is a comparative study with a philosophical approach conducted by the author to find the correlation between the two variables above.

Abstract

Almost all of the Church in Indonesia are still regarded a foreign entity in the midst of the larger society where it stands. It comes to happen because the Indonesian Church is often considered of not willing to open herself to create a dialogue with the society. In this case, Cornelius (Acts 10:34-43) as a transition personal could perhaps become inspiration for the Church in building a sincere dialogue with her circumstances. In this conversation, the unique personality of Cornelius as a transition personal succesfully made use the elements which belong to his pagan background and his religious background as a means for doing reciprocal repentance to him and to Peter. By doing this, at the same time, Cornelius placed himself as Peter’s equal partners of dialogue. Creating a dialogue with others is indeed a long unending process that really requires repentances from those who are involved in it.

Abstract

Hidup bersama tidak pernah lepas dari penguasaan diri. Sikap ini dapat dimaknai melalui berbagai cara, salah satunya dalam terang Kitab Suci. Rasul Paulus dalam Gal 5:23 memberikan pemahaman baru terkait penguasaan diri dalam hidup manusia. Ia mengajarkan bahwa penguasaan diri tidak melulu berfokus pada kekuatan pribadi masing-masing orang tetapi penguasaan diri merupakan buah dari kehadiran Roh Kudus dalam diri orang tersebut. Dengan penguasaan diri yang seimbang, Rasul Paulus mampu mewartakan Kristus bagi banyak orang, tak terkecuali bagi jemaat non Yahudi. Artikel ini menunjukkan penguasaan diri rasul Paulus dengan analisa Teori Kompleksitas Identitas Sosial-Social Identity Complexity Theory (SICT) yang belum pernah diulas dalam publikasi ilmiah sebelumnya. Penguasaan diri rasul Paulus tampak dalam pilihan sikapnya sebagai pewarta yakni merger. Ia berhasil menggabungkan dua identitas, baik Yahudi maupun non Yahudi dan menanamkan pemaknaan baru di antara jemaat seperti 'ciptaan baru, saudara-saudari dan kamu semua adalah satu’ (Gal 3:28).

Abstract

Everyone who has been baptized in the Catholic Church is united with thebody of Christ and entitled to the grace of salvation from God. The salvationis God himself who has been communicating in the hidden self of humanbeing. Besides of obtaining salvation, a member of a Church is also obligedto carry out the task and vocation according to the vision and mission of theChurch. Jesus’ command is preaching salvation to all nations, mandated toeveryone who has been obtaining salvation. The laity as members of Christ’sbody is obliged to carry out the tasks mandated by Jesus. It is important for the laity because they are the one who are facing the world in the front line. Laymen have worldliness that stands out because they discharge all the dutiesand professional world. The development of today’s world that gives avariety of choices, challenges and opportunities force the laity in determiningtheir behavior. Positive and negative aspects are mix into one affecting theworld and everyone too. The laity may be affected by the situation of thetimes, but should not forget the basic calling and mission in the world. Thisstudy recast the concept of thinking that leads to practical pastoral action oflaymen in the use of social media communications for vocation and missionin the world. Through the library research, the views and teachings of theCatholic Church is dug to see how a Catholic laymen can carry out theirmission, through social modern communication on the self-communication ofGod in Jesus. In addition, they laity make create communication made byJesus Christ as the plenary communicator as basis for the communicationwith the world through social media communication. Social media communications are diverse and sophisticated these days, that can be a soft tool to beused by the laity in carrying out his mission. However, these media users need togain an understanding and deep concern because in addition to benefits, mediacommunications can also be an obstacle to the proclamation of God's truth. Hence,the laymen have to imitate Jesus’ way of communication as the plenaryCommunicator which is the core of God's self-communication to the creation.

Abstract

Prejudice and conflict are multicultural challenges in many urban areas including the city of Ambon. Even the challenges of Ambon city are getting heavier given the legacy of a religiously nuanced horizontal conflict that occurred several years ago. Now Ambon looks calm and peaceful. Even many parties have declared Ambon as a harmony community. However, other parties are still doubtful and consider peace in Ambon only at the ceremonial level. With a qualitative approach, field study and literature study, this research explains that religious activities and celebration that have involved so many people from different religious communities have shown how progress in harmony and peace in Ambon city and Moluccas.

Abstract

This writing is the result of reasearch and analysis of a death ritual according to Tanimbarese tradition. The purposes of this research investigate and find out about the concept, ritualization and effect of the death ritual which is performed on deceased people in the Tanimbar Islands. In relation to the challenge of this study, we use some theories, derived from the Catholic Church and from a post-structuralist like Michael Foucault, to analyse this traditional Tanimbarese death ritual.

Abstract

Law and moral are two different field of studies. Sometimes, they appear as rival when solving a problem. As a case study for sample, the researcher took abortion. Abortion is a hot topic so far, debated on almost every day, and become one of the goverments’s concern to make a policy for the countries. No doubt, abortion is a difficult moral problem. But abortion also belongs to law since it is playing in the field of human rights to protect and defend. Long debate between moral and law is as if essential in abortion. By using qualitative research through literature analysis, this essay give a balance between law and moral analysis. It comes to a conclusion that even always competing each other almost in every case, they are two of complementing elements. Law and morality are like a pair of wings flapping together reaching the authentic truth.

Abstract

Tulisan ini merupakan sebuah kajian konseptual atas tubuh. Kajian mengenai topik ini memang telah banyak dilakukan, namun paling tidak melalui tulisan ini kita dimungkinkan untuk membicarakan secara berbeda konstruksi tubuh manusia secara lebih longgar tanpa selamanya harus berkiblat pada rezim dogmatisme kebenaran universal, terutama dalam wacana kekuasaan institusional. Dalam konteks itu, pembacaan genealogis atas konstruksi wacana tubuh manusia yang ditawarkan oleh Michael Foucault dapat menjadi salah satu alat analisis yang dipertimbangkan.
