Abstract

India is known for its motto of unity in diversity. Delhi classrooms are mirrors of this diversity. The researchers, being in the capacity of teachers and educators, received regular feedback from trainee teachers regarding the classroom environment of secondary schools in Delhi. During those feedback sessions and in submitted reports on reflections, there were frequent entries on cultural alienation and cultural clashes. These entries forced the researchers to study the status of cultural sensitivity in secondary classrooms in Delhi. The study discusses the perceptions of students regarding their own cultural identity, their peers’ cultural identity, and shared experiences of cultural alienation, bullying, or conflicts in their classrooms. The study also discusses students’ expectations of their teachers in creating culturally sensitive classrooms. This is a descriptive study. Ex post-facto survey design was chosen for the study of culturally sensitive classrooms. The sample consists of 445 students in 12 schools in Delhi (five public and seven private). The self-prepared questionnaire for students called the Cultural Sensitivity Questionnaire for Students (CSQS) with CVR 0.68 was used as the tool. The study concluded that cultural alienation, bullying, and conflicts occur because of mutual ignorance of each other’s culture.

Abstract

Abstract. The National Examination in Indonesia has been abolished since 2020. Hence, the Indonesian Junior High School (SMP) makes its final examination items for the 9th-grade, and from the results, the school determines success in the course. The final examination has an important role and significant value in making decisions about students' graduation. Therefore, this study is aimed to analyze the Online Final Examination items in one of the public junior high schools in Bandung. The sample was 234 students in grade 9 using their mathematics examination tests, comprising 20 multiple-choice items with 4 options (A-D), while the data processing used Winsteps software with the Rasch modeling technique. Subsequently, the Rasch model results showed an acceptable people separation statistic of 1.54 and poor person reliability at 0.7<0.8. The item separation statistics was in a good category at 2.21, while the reliability at 0.83 was excellent. Although 4 online final examination items were in the fit category, 16 were good and capable of dividing students according to their abilities. They also provided very detailed data about the quality of the items and the ability of each grade 9 student. Since each test item is included in the fit category, this study contributes information on preparing and analyzing the Online Final Examination to teachers.

Abstract

Learning media is an important part of producing quality learning. Therefore, learning media development is needed that supports the learning objectives. Several models can be used in designing learning media, such as the ADDIE and ASSURE models. The ADDIE model has the following development steps: (1) Analysis, (2) Design, (3) Development, (4) Implementation, and (5) Evaluation. While the ASSURE model has the following development steps: (1) Analyzing learners, (2) Stating learning objectives, (3) Selecting media and methods, (4) Utilizing media and methods, (5) Requiring learner response, (6) Evaluating. The purpose of this study is to compare the use of the ADDIE model and ASSURE model according to the learning objectives. The research was conducted using the literature review method from 36 articles and books that discuss the making of learning media with ADDIE and ASSURE design models. The literature review references were taken from Google Scholar with publication years between 2012 - 2022. The results of this study show that the use of the ADDIE design model is more effective in designing learning media applications because it focuses on material content and application feasibility so that students can use it optimally to achieve goals. Meanwhile, the ASSURE model is more effective for designing learning systems or teaching materials because itfocuses on the application of learning media design models that can attract student interest to generate learning motivation.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has triggered changes in the way people learn in various educational institutions, both formal and informal. The development of digital technology has encouraged students to improve their academic performance or learning achievements. Several problems, however, can arise, from the gap in the ability of students to master digital technology, the ability to provide technological infrastructure, the competence of top-level management and the ability of the IT department to determine the success of digitalization. One learning model that can be utilized in physical distancing policy is Web-Based Learning (WBL). WBL is a learning model that can be used without limitation of time, space, and learning resources. WBL was developed by using the Research and Development (RnD) with a 4D (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) approach. To develop WBL products, we used the unified modeling language (UML), flowcharts, and context diagrams. The product was tested which included product validity testing, practicality testing, and product effectiveness testing. The testing results showed that the product was valid, practical, and effective to be used as a guide for developing and implementing WBL in order to improve students' academic performance.
