Abstract

Integrating local values into multicultural counseling represents a strategic step toward enhancing cultural sensitivity and contextual relevance in counseling practices in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze and integrate the cultural value of pappaseng, a foundational principle of communication and character in Bugis culture into a multicultural counseling approach. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), encompassing stages of identification, selection, evaluation, and synthesis of 17 scholarly articles discussing multicultural counseling, local wisdom, and Bugis cultural values. The analysis reveals that pappaseng holds significant potential in reinforcing ethical, empathetic, and culturally oriented communication between counselors and clients. These values support the development of more inclusive counseling relationships based on an understanding of clients’ cultural backgrounds, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of the counseling process. The findings contribute theoretically to the development of multicultural counseling approaches grounded in local wisdom and offer practical implications for counselors seeking to apply cultural values as a foundation for more contextual and meaningful interventions.

Abstract

Bullying is a deliberate and repeated act of oppression by an individual or group with greater power against a weaker party, with serious impacts on the victim’s psychological condition. This study aims to identify the types of self-defence mechanisms currently employed by victims of bullying. A qualitative approach with a case study method was used, involving two female students from Universitas Negeri Padang as the main subjects, with additional informants including parents and close friends. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed thematically. The results show that both subjects employed various self-defence mechanisms, including both adaptive and maladaptive types. Identified mechanisms include acting out, isolation, splitting, rationalization, dissociation, somatization, displacement, humor, sublimation, anticipation, altruism, and suppression. These patterns reflect the subjects’ efforts to cope with psychological pressure resulting from bullying experiences, with variations in responses influenced by the intensity of the events, social support, and individual characteristics. The findings underscore the importance of understanding self-defence mechanisms in counseling practice to assist bullying victims in developing more adaptive coping strategies and supporting their long-term emotional recovery process.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the dyeing process of mansiang weaving materials in Palupuh, Agam Regency. A qualitative approach was employed using the 4D product development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), with local artisans and community leaders serving as the primary informants. The research instrument consisted of interview guides formulated based on the issues under study, while data collection techniques included in-depth interviews and documentation. The findings indicate that the dyeing process of mansiang follows traditional stages involving the use of simple tools and synthetic dyes. The steps include: (1) preparing a pot filled with water, (2) heating the water to a boil, (3) adding dye to the boiling water, (4) stirring the dye solution until evenly mixed, (5) inserting mansiang stalks into the solution, (6) stirring the mansiang to ensure even color absorption, and (7) removing and drying the dyed mansiang. These findings contribute to the preservation of local knowledge and provide a foundation for developing culturally-based woven craft products that are more innovative and economically valuable.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the form, function, and meaning of traditional clothing worn by Depati and Ninik Mamak during customary ceremonies in Seleman Village, Danau Kerinci District. The research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, using interviews with local Depati and Ninik Mamak as key informants. The findings show that the traditional attire consists of several main components, including sungkuk, baju gedeang, suwan gedeang, kain tahhap, cinggang/cawek, kehaih, tungkat, and shoes. Each element carries both symbolic and practical functions, serving as markers of social status and cultural identity within the Kerinci customary structure. The clothing not only enhances appearance during ceremonial events but also represents local wisdom values such as honor, authority, responsibility, and exemplary conduct. The philosophical meanings embedded in the attire reflect community norms and worldviews rooted in customary law. These findings indicate that traditional clothing serves not only as a form of material cultural heritage but also as a medium for transmitting social values and the collective identity of the Kerinci indigenous community.

Abstract

The selection of academic tracks at the senior high school (SMA) level is a crucial phase in determining students’ educational pathways and future careers. However, many students experience confusion during this process due to a lack of understanding of their own potential and abilities. This study aims to analyze the urgency of implementing intelligence assessments prior to track selection, using a literature review approach. Intelligence assessments provide objective information about students’ cognitive capacities, including logical reasoning, information processing, and dominant learning styles. The findings indicate that intelligence testing can support more informed decision-making, enhance self-confidence, and reduce the risk of students being placed in unsuitable academic tracks. Nevertheless, such assessments have limitations, including the exclusion of non-cognitive aspects such as interests, motivation, and personal values, and are also susceptible to emotional states and cultural biases. Therefore, intelligence assessments should be implemented comprehensively alongside interest and aptitude assessments to yield more accurate and student-relevant outcomes. This study recommends that schools integrate intelligence assessments into academic tracking policies as a means to support more purposeful and potential-aligned student decisions.

Abstract

Adolescence is a complex developmental stage marked by heightened vulnerability to psychosocial stress, necessitating an educational approach that addresses not only cognitive but also emotional and spiritual dimensions. Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI) plays a strategic role in fostering adolescent mental resilience through a psychoeducational approach integrated with spiritual, moral, and social values. This article aims to analyze the contribution of PAI to adolescent mental health at the senior high school level using a qualitative case study approach. The focus of the study includes three main aspects: stress management, confidence building, and the development of social support through religious communities. The findings show that PAI effectively assists adolescents in managing stress through the internalization of Islamic values such as sabar (patience) and tawakal (trust in God), enhances self-confidence through an understanding of individual potential as God's creation, and strengthens social support through participation in collective religious activities. These results are supported by previous studies indicating that active involvement in religious practices positively impacts emotional stability, inner peace, and identity formation. Therefore, PAI should be positioned not merely as a normative subject, but as a transformative educational instrument that holistically supports the psychological well-being of adolescents.

Abstract

Child developmental psychology serves as a fundamental basis in education, particularly at the elementary school level, as the ages of 6–12 represent a critical period for character formation, social skills development, and cognitive growth. This article aims to explore the principles and laws of child development and their application within the context of primary education. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, employing a literature review method based on various relevant scholarly sources. The findings indicate that understanding the stages and characteristics of child development is essential for teachers and parents in designing learning strategies tailored to students’ needs. Principles such as developmental individuality, continuity, and the interaction between environmental and hereditary factors serve as the foundation for creating adaptive and supportive learning environments. Furthermore, the application of developmental psychology in active learning has been shown to enhance student engagement, strengthen learning motivation, and foster the holistic growth of children’s potential. The article concludes that integrating developmental psychology into educational practices not only supports academic success but also contributes to strong character development. It is recommended that educators and policymakers adopt child development principles as a central reference in curriculum design and instructional strategies at the elementary level.

Abstract

The issue of limited literacy access and the quality of library services in elementary schools presents a significant challenge to improving educational quality. This study aims to analyze the implementation of library management and digitalization in supporting educational services at SDN Manukan Wetan 1/114 Surabaya. A qualitative case study approach was used, with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings show that the school library has implemented structured management, including an organizational structure, the Dewey Decimal Classification system, and the use of digital applications such as INLISLite 3.2, with further development plans involving the DIGIDO platform. Despite challenges such as the shortage of professional librarians and concerns over digital copyright, several literacy services continue to operate, including mandatory reading visits, storytelling activities, and mobile library services. These findings indicate that effective library management and targeted digitalization can enhance reading interest and improve the efficiency of information services in elementary school settings. The implications of this study highlight the importance of technological infrastructure support, library staff training, and strengthened copyright regulations to optimize the role of digital libraries as a key component in foundational literacy education.

Abstract

This research investigates the application of differentiated instruction methods for teaching English language skills at SDN 1 Dasan Geres, an inclusive elementary school in West Lombok, Indonesia. The research investigated how participants comprehended differentiated instruction implementation within inclusive educational environments while teaching literacy and numeracy skills and developing student character. The research framework of this study combined a qualitative descriptive approach with the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. The research team gathered information through comprehensive interviews with English teachers and by examining documents, including lesson plans and student assignments. Teachers recognized the importance of meeting students' varied needs with a systematic, inclusive educational approach and differentiated teaching methods. Teachers experienced obstacles to effective implementation from limited training programs, insufficient resources, excessive teaching loads, inadequate time availability, and challenges managing oversized classes. The application of differentiated instruction strategies emerged inconsistently across subjects because teachers commonly employed informal assessments to create these methods. Teachers dismantled specific barriers through differentiated instruction, leading to higher student engagement and improved self-esteem and participation. Instruction that centers on each student's unique preparation level and personal interests leads to improved literacy abilities and enhanced positive character qualities among students. Research determined that achieving differentiated educational sustainability demands professional development, sufficient instructional resources, and organizational backing for effective teaching strategies in inclusive primary education settings.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low learning outcomes of eleventh-grade santri in the Al-Qur’an Hadist subject at Pondok Pesantren Asy-Syarif Sidang Koto Laweh, attributed to educator-centered instruction and the limited active participation of santri during the learning process. The research aims to examine whether the use of the Bahtsul Masa’il method results in better learning outcomes compared to conventional methods in Al-Qur’an Hadist instruction. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was employed, in which the independent variable is the Bahtsul Masa’il method and the dependent variable is the santri's learning outcomes. The study population comprised all students at the MA level, totaling 85 individuals. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 14 santri from class XI.S as the control group and 18 santri from class XI.A as the experimental group. The data collection instrument consisted of a written test with fifteen essay questions. The analysis results indicate a significant effect of the Bahtsul Masa’il method on learning outcomes, contributing 11.64%, as demonstrated by a t-test with a significance value of 0.004 < 0.05. The difference in average final scores shows that the experimental class achieved higher learning outcomes than the control class. Meanwhile, 88.36% of the outcomes were influenced by other relevant factors such as increased critical thinking, participation, and learning motivation among santri. These findings suggest that the Bahtsul Masa’il method is effective in enhancing learning outcomes and promoting more active and meaningful learning.
