Abstract

This study is driven by the need for effective and engaging instructional media to support students’ understanding of the subject Dasar-Dasar Teknik Elektronika (Fundamentals of Electronics Engineering) at SMK Negeri 4 Pariaman. The purpose of this research is to develop an interactive learning medium based on Canva and to assess its validity and practicality. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method involving all 20 tenth-grade students of the Industrial Electronics Engineering program as the sample. Data were collected through validation questionnaires completed by two media experts and two subject matter experts, as well as a practicality questionnaire administered to students as end users. Data analysis involved calculating the feasibility percentage from the validation scores and the average student response score using a Likert scale. The results showed that the developed media is valid, with validation scores of 95% from media experts and 94.37% from subject matter experts, and practical, with a practicality score of 90.18%. These findings indicate that the Canva-based interactive learning medium is suitable for use and effectively supports students in understanding basic electronics engineering concepts. Therefore, this medium can serve as an appealing, accessible, and relevant instructional aid aligned with the needs of vocational education in the digital era.

Abstract

The low academic achievement of students in science subjects at SMP Negeri 10 Padang is attributed to limited conceptual understanding, low enthusiasm for the material, a lack of relevance between lessons and daily life, and the predominance of one-way teacher communication. This study aims to improve student learning outcomes through the implementation of the discovery learning model among Class VII.3 students, consisting of 32 participants. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas) design conducted over two cycles. Data were collected through multiple-choice tests and analyzed quantitatively to assess improvements in learning outcomes. The results showed that the average pre-cycle score was 69.56 with a mastery level of 53.13%. In the first cycle, the average increased to 77.59 with 68.75% mastery, and in the second cycle, it further improved to 86.25 with 84.38% mastery. These findings demonstrate that the application of discovery learning is effective in enhancing science learning outcomes. Learning activities that emphasize student exploration strengthen conceptual understanding, enhance memory retention, and promote critical thinking skills. Therefore, discovery learning is a relevant student-centered approach for improving the quality of science learning outcomes at the junior high school level.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the "Cinta Lingkungan" (Love for the Environment) program at SMP Negeri 4 Gunung Talang as an effort to cultivate environmental awareness among students. A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed. Data sources included the principal, program supervisors, and both participating and non-participating students, supported by relevant documentation. The findings indicate that the implementation of the "Cinta Lingkungan" program involved the development of a regular schedule, various environmental activities such as school area cleaning and tree planting, and the utilization of the surrounding school environment as the activity site. Program evaluation was based on timing and types of activities conducted. However, supervisors faced several challenges, including students’ initial lack of awareness regarding the importance of environmental preservation and limited operational funding. These findings suggest that the "Cinta Lingkungan" extracurricular program can serve as a strategic means to instill environmental care values but requires sustained support from both the school and students to achieve optimal outcomes.

Abstract

This study is based on the low academic achievement of students in science subjects in Class IX at SMP Negeri 10 Padang, where learning outcomes have not met the Minimum Mastery Criteria (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal). The purpose of this research is to improve student learning outcomes through the application of the Discovery Learning model. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas) method conducted in two cycles, involving 32 students from Class IX.1. Data were collected through multiple-choice written tests administered at the end of each cycle and analyzed by calculating the percentage of individual and class-wide mastery. The results showed an increase in the average student score from 63.6 with 43.75% mastery in the pre-cycle, to 73 with 65.6% mastery in the first cycle, and a significant improvement in the second cycle with an average score of 78.75 and 90.6% mastery. These findings demonstrate that the Discovery Learning model is effective in improving student learning outcomes. This model encourages students to actively discover concepts independently, leading to deeper understanding of the material and positively impacting academic performance. Therefore, Discovery Learning is a viable alternative instructional strategy for science education that emphasizes active engagement and conceptual understanding.

Abstract

Teachers hold a critical responsibility in creating engaging learning experiences through innovative pedagogical approaches, one of which is the use of instructional media to stimulate student participation and foster interest, enjoyment, motivation, and curiosity. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional media in enhancing student activity and motivation. A mixed-methods approach was employed, collecting qualitative data through direct observation and interviews, and quantitative data through student performance assessments. The researcher was directly involved in the teaching process of Class VIII to gain contextual understanding of student behaviors and responses during learning. Observation results indicate that in Cycle I, student participation reached 60% in the first session and 72% in the second session, with an average of 66%. In Cycle II, there was a significant increase, with 80% participation in the first session and 96% in the second, averaging 92%. These findings demonstrate that the consistent use of instructional media can gradually enhance student participation and learning activity. Therefore, integrating media as part of a cycle-based instructional strategy is effective in creating an interactive and motivating learning environment.

Abstract

The instruction of the tari piring (plate dance) in Class VIII.1 at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Padang continues to face challenges in optimizing students’ understanding and movement skills, particularly among those who are reluctant to ask questions directly to the teacher. This study aims to improve learning outcomes in tari piring through the implementation of the peer tutoring method as a learning strategy. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas) method conducted over two instructional cycles involving multiple meetings, with all students in Class VIII.1 as subjects. Data were collected through observation of student activities and documentation of the learning process, then analyzed quantitatively using percentage formulas to assess improvements in learning outcomes. The findings indicate that the peer tutoring method effectively enhances students’ positive engagement, such as attentiveness, willingness to ask questions, and collaboration in group activities. This approach also helped previously struggling students become more actively involved in the learning process. However, the success of this method strongly depends on the teacher’s active role as a guide and facilitator of understanding. Therefore, the combination of peer tutoring and direct teacher guidance has proven to significantly improve the quality of tari piring instruction in Class VIII.1 at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Padang.

Abstract

Science instruction in Class VIII.8 at SMPN 10 Padang demonstrates the need to improve student learning outcomes through the implementation of more effective methods. This study aims to enhance student achievement by applying the Discovery Learning model. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas) design conducted in two cycles, involving 30 students during the Field Teaching Practice (Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan/PPL) 2 in the 2024/2025 academic year. The procedure followed Lewin’s action research cycle model, consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through student activity observations, field notes, and multiple-choice tests administered as pretests and posttests, and analyzed using percentage formulas for both individual and class-wide mastery. The results revealed a significant improvement in learning outcomes, with mastery rising from 33.33% in the pre-cycle to 43.33% in the first cycle, and then sharply increasing to 86.67% in the second cycle after refining the instructional strategy. These findings demonstrate that the Discovery Learning model is effective in improving science learning outcomes by promoting active engagement, conceptual exploration, and deeper understanding throughout the learning process.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve students' learning outcomes in mathematics by implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 28 Air Tawar Timur, Padang, Indonesia. The study addressed low mathematics performance due to teacher-centered instruction by applying a contextual and collaborative approach. The method used was classroom action research conducted in two cycles. Data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation. The results showed that the application of the PBL model improved students' engagement and performance. The average knowledge score increased from 82.65 in cycle I to 84.85 in cycle II, and the skill aspect rose from 75.5 to 84.5. Affective aspects also improved, particularly in collaboration, critical thinking, and independence. The study concludes that the PBL model is effective in enhancing mathematics learning outcomes for fifth-grade students.

Abstract

Science learning in class IX.2 at SMPN 10 Padang shows a need to improve student learning outcomes through effective learning methods. This study aims to implement the Discovery Learning model to enhance student learning outcomes in science subjects. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) involving 32 students during the PPL 2 PPG Teacher Candidate program for the 2024/2025 academic year. The research procedure follows Lewin’s (1992) CAR cycle model consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages across two learning cycles. Data were collected through observation of student learning activities and a 30-item multiple-choice test administered as pretest and posttest, then analyzed using individual mastery percentage formulas. The results showed a significant increase from an average score of 62.81 in cycle I to 75.15 in cycle II, along with an increase in the percentage of students reaching the minimum mastery criteria. Therefore, the Discovery Learning model is effective in improving science learning outcomes for class IX.2 students at SMPN 10 Padang.

Abstract

The low level of students’ understanding of reading texts, particularly in drawing conclusions and retelling content in their own words, forms the background of this study. The purpose of the research is to describe the improvement of students’ reading comprehension skills through the implementation of the Know, Want to Know, Learned (KWL) learning model. This study employed a Classroom Action Research (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas) method consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection, involving 15 fourth-grade students at SDN 07 Padang Gelanggang. A combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches was used. Data were obtained through observations and assessments of reading comprehension skills in each cycle. The results show a significant improvement, with the instructional module assessment increasing from 85% in Cycle I to 96% in Cycle II. Teacher implementation rose from 75% to 96%, while student engagement improved from 82% to 92%. The average reading comprehension score also increased from 67.70 to 83.25. These findings demonstrate that the KWL model is effective in enhancing elementary students’ reading comprehension skills by promoting active engagement and gradual understanding of reading content.
