Abstract

This study aimed to describe the forms of gender bias, their causal factors, and their impacts in the novel Dua Garis Biru by Lucia Priandarini. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through close reading and note-taking of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences that represent gender bias through narrative, dialogue, and characters’ actions. Data were analyzed using a descriptive–analytical method by classifying them into categories of forms of gender bias, causal factors, and impacts, and then interpreting them through the lenses of feminist literary criticism and social psychology to uncover power relations within the text. The validity of the data was tested using theory triangulation. The findings reveal diverse forms of gender bias, including gender stereotypes, paternalism, marginalization, subordination, verbal abuse, excessive workload, objectification, and discrimination. The causal factors of gender bias are influenced by patriarchal culture and tradition, socio-structural conditions, gender norms and stereotypes, as well as the influence of mass media and technology. The impacts of gender bias are reflected in humiliation and stigma, loss of autonomy, social isolation, damaged self-esteem, limited educational and career opportunities, and emotional violence. These findings affirm that Dua Garis Biru represents unequal gender relations and functions as a medium of social reflection on gender injustice in society.

Abstract

Spiritual education is an essential aspect of Islam that is oriented toward holistic personality formation, encompassing spiritual, moral, and intellectual dimensions. Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah places spiritual education (tazkiyatun nafs) at the core of educational success, which is measured not only by intellectual intelligence but also by purity of the soul, steadfastness of faith, and nobility of character. This study aimed to examine the concept of spiritual education according to Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah and its implications for the development of Islamic education. A library research method with a qualitative–descriptive approach was employed through content analysis of Ibn Qayyim’s major works. The findings show that spiritual education is intended to direct human beings toward true servitude to Allah SWT through the processes of tazkiyah and tahliyah, by cultivating a balanced relationship between khauf, raja’, and mahabbah. Spiritual education must be grounded in the Al-Qur’an and the Sunnah and realized through the habituation of righteous deeds and the exemplary conduct of educators. This concept is relevant as a holistic paradigm of Islamic education for shaping a generation that is knowledgeable, faithful, and of noble character.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the concept of Classroom Action Research (CAR), its research design, variables, and data collection techniques in the context of twenty-first-century learning through the integration of technology and instructional media. A qualitative approach was employed using library research by reviewing various literature sources, including reference books, national and international journal articles, and relevant educational policy documents published in the last ten years. The findings show that CAR is a reflective and systematic approach that enables teachers to improve the quality of learning processes and outcomes through iterative cycles of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Innovative CAR in twenty-first-century learning emphasizes technology integration, collaborative learning, project-based learning, and other creative strategies aligned with twenty-first-century skills. In addition, the use of diverse data collection techniques (such as observation, tests, interviews, reflective journals, and documentation) strengthens triangulation and enhances the validity of research findings. Overall, CAR functions not only as a means of solving classroom learning problems but also as an instrument for developing teacher professionalism in designing active, meaningful, learner-centered, and digitally adaptive instruction.

Abstract

Twenty-first-century learning requires mastery of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills that are aligned with technological developments and global demands, making the integration of technology and media a strategic component in improving the quality of instruction. This study aimed to examine the integration of technology and media in twenty-first-century learning and its implications for enhancing the quality of learning processes and outcomes. A qualitative approach was employed using a library research method through the analysis of various relevant journal articles, reference books, and educational policy documents. The findings show that the integration of technology and media plays a crucial role in creating interactive, effective, and learner-centered instruction, while simultaneously supporting the development of digital literacy and increasing students’ motivation and engagement in learning. On the other hand, the implementation of technology and media integration still faces several challenges, particularly related to teacher readiness, levels of digital literacy, and disparities in access to technological facilities. Therefore, the integration of technology and media requires careful planning, the enhancement of teachers’ competencies, and adequate infrastructure support so that it can be optimally implemented and genuinely sustain the realization of high-quality, inclusive, and contextually relevant twenty-first-century learning.

Abstract

Although hate speech on social media has been widely examined, studies that specifically address indications of hate speech in the comment sections of particular Instagram influencer accounts remain limited. This study aims to describe (1) the types of hate speech and (2) the linguistic units that realize hate speech in the comment section of the Instagram account of influencer Azizah Salsha. This qualitative study employed a descriptive method, with data consisting of sentences or utterances by netizens that contained hate speech. The main research instrument was the researcher, assisted by note-taking, while data were collected through observation and reading methods using note-taking techniques. Data validity was ensured through triangulation, and data were analyzed by classifying and grouping the utterances based on the types of hate speech and their linguistic units. The findings show that hate speech in the comment section of the Instagram account of Azizah Salsha appears in various forms, with the most frequent type being insulting expressions (66 utterances), followed by defamation and dissemination of false information (13 utterances), incitement (9 utterances), provocation (7 utterances), and blasphemy (2 utterances). The most frequently occurring linguistic unit realizing hate speech was the sentence level (41 utterances), followed by phrases (35 utterances), clauses (23 utterances), and words (11 utterances). These findings contribute to the development of linguistic studies and broaden understandings of language use practices by netizens in digital spaces. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of polite language awareness in social media interactions, with theoretical implications for enriching the literature on hate speech in social media and practical implications for the public and digital platform managers in fostering healthier communication spaces.

Abstract

Research on affixation in Indonesian has been widely conducted; however, studies that specifically map nominal-forming circumfixation in religious novels remain limited. This study aims to describe the types of circumfixes, base forms, and patterns of noun formation through circumfixation in the novels Jilbab Traveler: Love Sparks in Korea by Asma Nadia and Cinta Suci Zahrana by Habiburrahman El-Shirazy. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a corpus-based document analysis design using Kortara, with purposively selected data consisting of circumfixed words and their sentential contexts. The findings show 430 instances of nominal-forming circumfixes, comprising ke-…-an (260 data points), pe-…-an (86 data points), and per-…-an (84 data points). The circumfix ke-…-an is the most productive and predominantly forms abstract nouns denoting states or qualities; pe-…-an tends to form nouns denoting processes or results of actions; while per-…-an forms nouns referring to places or outcomes of activities. In addition, seven patterns of noun formation through circumfixation were identified, with the pattern ke-…-an + D(A) → N being the most dominant, alongside allomorphic variation in pe-…-an (pen-, pem-, peng-). These findings underscore the role of circumfixation in naming abstract concepts that are salient within religious narratives and strengthen the understanding of morphological productivity in religiously nuanced novels.

Abstract

Educational planning through strategic documents has long been recognized as an essential instrument for quality improvement; however, empirical studies on how school principals manage the planning cycle through the Strategic Plan (Rencana Strategis, Renstra) and Annual Work Plan (Rencana Kerja Tahunan, RKT) remain limited. This study aims to examine the role of the madrasah principal in managing the educational planning cycle through the Renstra and RKT as instruments for improving educational quality at MTsN 8 Jombang. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method with a qualitative approach, with data obtained through interviews with the madrasah principal, vice principals, and the madrasah development team, as well as analysis of planning documents. The findings show that the principal plays an active role in initiating the preparation of the Renstra, setting policy directions, and ensuring alignment between medium-term planning and annual operational planning. The implementation of the Renstra and RKT was carried out systematically through cross-unit coordination, strengthening of teacher professionalism, and continuous performance-based evaluation. The study concludes that effective management of educational planning requires strategic leadership capable of integrating planning, implementation, and evaluation in a sustainable manner as a prerequisite for improving madrasah quality.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the effects of work discipline and work motivation on employee performance, with competence as a moderating variable, at the UPTD Puskesmas Kayu Gadang, Pesisir Selatan Regency. A quantitative approach with an explanatory research design was employed, involving a population of 64 employees, all of whom were included as the sample using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected through a closed-ended questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale and were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (PLS-SEM) with the aid of SmartPLS software. The results showed that work discipline had a positive and significant effect on employee performance, whereas work motivation did not have a significant effect on employee performance and, in fact, exhibited a negative direction of association. The moderating variable test indicated that competence significantly strengthened the effect of work discipline on employee performance but did not strengthen the effect of work motivation on employee performance. These findings suggest that improving the performance of primary health care staff is more effectively achieved by reinforcing work discipline supported by adequate competence, and they provide empirical contributions to the development of human resource management in the primary health care service sector.

Abstract

Islamic educational psychology is a discipline that examines educational processes based on the Islamic view of the nature of the human being, soul, intellect, and heart, and places the spiritual dimension at the core of human development and learning, in contrast to Western educational psychology, which tends to be secular. Within this framework, the thought of Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (691–751 H) makes an important contribution to understanding human psychology through the concepts of fitrah, qalb, nafs, ʿaql, and tazkiyatun nafs. This article aims to examine scientifically and systematically the concept of Islamic educational psychology according to Ibn Qayyim, including his views on the nature of the human being, the aims of education, the roles of educators and learners, and educational methods that are aligned with psychological development. The research employed a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach to Ibn Qayyim’s major works. The findings indicate that Ibn Qayyim’s thought is relevant as a foundation for developing a holistic and integrative Islamic education that brings together spiritual, intellectual, and moral dimensions within the educational process and is oriented toward forming individuals who are faithful, knowledgeable, and of noble character. These results affirm that Ibn Qayyim’s concept of Islamic educational psychology can serve as a normative and conceptual reference in formulating a contemporary Islamic educational paradigm that emphasizes balance in the development of spiritual, intellectual, and behavioral potentials.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of reading comprehension skills as a foundation for developing writing skills, particularly in news text writing, while empirical research that directly examines the contribution of reading comprehension to news text writing skills among madrasah students remains limited. The study aimed to (1) describe the news text reading comprehension skills of Grade VII students at MTs Negeri 1 Padang City, (2) describe their news text writing skills, and (3) analyze the contribution of reading comprehension skills to news text writing skills. This quantitative research employed a descriptive approach, with the population comprising all Grade VII students of MTs Negeri 1 Padang City in the 2024/2025 academic year. The sample consisted of 32 students selected using simple random sampling. The research instruments were an objective test of news text reading comprehension skills and a performance test of news text writing skills. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the levels of reading and writing skills, and inferential statistics through t-tests and the coefficient of determination to examine the contribution of reading comprehension skills to news text writing skills. The findings indicate three main results: (1) the news text reading comprehension skills of Grade VII students at MTs Negeri 1 Padang City are in the “good” qualification; (2) their news text writing skills are in the “very good” qualification; and (3) there is a positive and significant relationship between reading comprehension skills and news text writing skills, as evidenced by the rejection of H₀ and acceptance of H₁, with the calculated t-value exceeding the t-table value. Based on the coefficient of determination, reading comprehension skills are shown to make a substantial contribution to students’ news text writing skills. These findings underscore the importance of strengthening reading comprehension instruction as a strategy to improve the quality of news text writing skills in Indonesian language learning at the madrasah tsanawiyah level.
