Abstract

Multi-storey government buildings generally exhibit high electrical energy consumption, particularly in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, and supporting electrical equipment. Conventional operational patterns that do not adapt to occupancy levels and environmental conditions often lead to significant energy inefficiencies and increased operational costs. In recent years, smart building technologies have been recognized as an effective approach to improving energy performance in non-residential buildings. This study aims to optimize electrical energy consumption in a multi-storey government building through the implementation of a Smart Building System based on a Building Energy Management System (BEMS). The research adopts an applied case study approach conducted at a provincial government office building in Indonesia. The methodology includes an energy audit, analysis of electrical load profiles, evaluation of energy performance indicators, and comparison of energy consumption before and after the application of BEMS-based optimization strategies. The results demonstrate a measurable reduction in total electricity consumption, peak load demand, and operational electricity costs, while maintaining acceptable indoor comfort conditions. The findings confirm that the application of smart building systems can significantly enhance energy efficiency in government buildings and provide a practical framework for sustainable energy management in the public sector.

Abstract

Diesel Power Plants remain the main electricity source in Indonesia’s archipelagic country and they are served as isolated power systems, that characterized by high fuel consumption, high operating costs, and significant greenhouse gas emissions. This study evaluates the technical, economic, reliability, environmental, and diesel reduction performance of a hybrid Diesel Power Plants system integrated with solar power and battery energy storage. A quantitative simulation-based approach using HOMER software compares three configurations: conventional Diesel Power Plants, Diesel–Solar PV, and Diesel–Solar PV–BESS. The analysis focuses on energy performance, fuel efficiency, economic indicators, system reliability, and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. Results show that integrating a 1 MWp PV system and a 1 MWh BESS into a 6 MW Diesel Power Plant in Lombok significantly improves system performance, reducing Specific Fuel Consumption by 4.70% and CO₂ emissions by 4.41%. Economically, the hybrid system lowers Net Present Cost by 3.31%, Operating Cost by 4.78%, and Levelized Cost of Energy by 3.58% to 0.2234 USD/kWh, with a payback period of 2.91 years, while also improving system reliability through reduced unmet load and capacity shortage. These findings confirm that the Diesel Power Plant–Solar PV–BESS configuration is a reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable diesel reduction solution for island-based power systems in Indonesia.

Abstract

Lightning-induced transient overvoltages pose a serious threat to modern electrical installations, particularly at main distribution panels where electrical energy is concentrated. Improper mitigation of these surges may lead to insulation breakdown, equipment damage, and system outages. This paper presents an analysis of the optimal placement of surge protective devices (SPDs) against lightning impulses at the main distribution panel using MATLAB-based simulation. Several protection scenarios are evaluated, including an unprotected condition and various SPD placement configurations. Lightning impulses are modeled using standard impulse waveforms, and system responses are analyzed in the time domain. Simulation results indicate that SPD placement significantly affects residual voltage levels and transient response stability. The optimal configuration is achieved by installing SPDs at the incoming side of the main panel, resulting in the lowest peak residual voltage and the most stable voltage response. The findings provide practical guidance for designing effective surge protection schemes in lightning-prone regions.

Abstract

This research aims to conceptually examine the integration of traditionalism in the thought of KH. Hasyim Asy'ari, Kh Ahmad Dahlan and progressivism according to John Dewey in the context of education, focusing on progressivism as the basis for religious moderation-based education. The study focuses on how both thoughts are understood as a foundation for human formation through the educational process, identifying common ground, differences, and possibilities for integration within the educational framework. This research uses a literature study method, examining the main works of KH Hasyim Asy'ari and John Dewey, as well as relevant scientific sources discussing religious moderation education, traditionalism, and progressivism. The results show that KH. Hasyim Asy'ari's thought, as an Indonesian traditionalist scholar, emphasizes the importance of morals, scientific sanad, and balance between religious knowledge and general knowledge. Meanwhile, John Dewey, an American progressive philosopher, emphasizes education as a process of experience, freedom of thought, and adaptation to social change. The synthesis between KH. Hasyim Asy'ari's traditional values and John Dewey's progressive ideas produces a moderate education concept that balances spiritual, intellectual, and social aspects. Religious moderation-based education inspired by these two figures can be an alternative model in facing the challenges of radicalism and moral degradation in the modern era.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of millennial preachers (da’i milenial) on TikTok and its implications for the religious literacy of Muslim high school adolescents in Tunggak Cerme Village, Probolinggo Regency. Employing a qualitative descriptive case study approach, this research aims to deeply understand the characteristics of digital preaching, the level of religious literacy, and the process of internalizing religious messages among adolescents. The findings reveal that millennial preachers on TikTok employ egalitarian communication styles, use popular and contextual language, and present short, interactive visual content that resonates with the spiritual and psychological needs of youth. TikTok functions as an informal learning space that strengthens the cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions of students’ religious literacy. However, the brevity and fragmented nature of content often lead to partial understanding and limit the development of critical and moderate religious literacy. The effectiveness of such digital preaching depends heavily on the guidance of teachers, parents, and supportive religious environments. This study concludes that millennial preachers’ digital da’wah on TikTok represents a strategic innovation in contemporary Islamic propagation, with the potential to enhance youth religiosity when accompanied by strengthened digital literacy, ethical media engagement, and synergy between formal and non-formal religious education.

Abstract

Contemporary educational discourse increasingly confronts crises of dehumanization, epistemic domination, and the erosion of ethical orientation within modern schooling systems. In response to these challenges, this article examines the educational philosophies of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas and Paulo Freire as two influential thinkers who, despite emerging from distinct civilizational and epistemological traditions, conceptualize education as a project of liberation. The study aims to explore how al-Attas’s Islamic spiritual epistemology and Freire’s critical pedagogy can be conceptually integrated to formulate a holistic framework for educational liberation. Employing a qualitative research design grounded in library research and thematic content analysis, this study systematically reviews and comparatively analyzes the primary works of both thinkers alongside authoritative secondary sources. The findings reveal that al-Attas emphasizes liberation from epistemological confusion—particularly the loss of adab—through the Islamization of knowledge, whereas Freire foregrounds emancipation from socio-political oppression through the cultivation of critical consciousness (conscientização). Despite these differences, both perspectives converge on the ethical mission of education as a process of humanization, moral responsibility, and transformative praxis. This article contributes theoretically by proposing an integrative paradigm that bridges Islamic spirituality and Western critical pedagogy, challenging the conventional secular–religious dichotomy in educational theory. Practically, it offers an alternative foundation for transformative education that is responsive to global crises of meaning, injustice, and cultural dislocation, thereby advancing a more comprehensive vision of liberatory education.
