Abstract

β-Tricalcium Phosphate (β-TCP) is a biomaterial commonly used in dentistry as a bone substitute. β-TCP is a calcium phosphate compound where β-TCP requires a calcium source to be synthesized. The source of calcium could be obtained from green mussel shells because they have high calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of sintering temperature on the morphology of β-TCP synthesized from green mussel shells. The method of this research is an exploratory research conducted by knowing the effect of sintering temperature on the morphology of β-TCP synthesized from green mussel shells. The results of the synthesis were tested for characterized with a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). In the SEM characterization results, the higher the sintering temperature used in the sample, the more fused and resulting larger particle size. β-TCP with sintering temperature variations of 950℃, 1.000℃, 1.050℃ and 1.100℃ has a morphology consisting of small particles of irregular shape and bonding to each other to form micropores. The conclusion in this study is that the higher the sintering temperature applied, the more the particles coalesce and form larger particles.

Abstract

Dental implant is currently the best choice of treatment to restore mastication, aesthetics, and phonetics functions. Dental implant is a biocompatible screw-like titanium fixture that is surgically placed into the jawbone, enabling the replacement of missing teeth that is more aesthetically biomimetic and comfortable. The recent dental implant is based on the concept of osseointegration, meaning that the implant material could naturally and predictably bond with bone. In the first case, a 28-year-old male patient with missing tooth 46 was rehabilitated with Strauman Blt implant. In the second case, a 66-year-old- female patient is missing tooth 46 and was rehabilitated with BTK implant. Both of the cases used screw-retained metal porcelain crown. Both patients did not have any systemic disease. One should comprehend the basic knowledge of implant before doing the placement to achieve maximal result. Both of the two cases were done successfully without any difficulties and no complaint post 4-month insertion.

Abstract

Background: Root canal treatment is one of the modalities to treat periapical lesions. The success of root canal treatment in periapical lesions can be seen with the patient's chief complaint and the healing of periapical lesions as seen by the radiograph. Objective: This case report aims to demonstrate root canal treatment on a maxillary anterior tooth with periapical lesion. Case report: A 22-year-old female patient came with complaints of a maxillary anterior tooth that had throbbing pain several months ago, after having it filled by a previous dentist, and since then, it has never hurt again. Intra-oral examination of tooth 12 showed composite resin on the mesiopalatal surface. Radiographic findings showed that there was a round radiolucency in the periapical area with a diameter of 4 mm. Root canal treatment was performed based on the diagnosis of chronic apical periodontitis et causa necrotic pulp. Root canal treatment begins with the application of a rubber dam, opens the cavity, explores the root canal, and shapes the root canal. Biomechanical preparation was carried out using Protaper Hand Use with crown down technique, combined with 2.5% NaOCl irrigation. The first visit ends with the disinfection of the root canal using calcium hydroxide. Subsequent treatment was carried out with subjective and objective examination, removal of temporary filling, cleaning of calcium hydroxide, and final irrigation with 2.5% NaOCl, 17% EDTA, and 2% CHX. Obturation was achieved using the vertical condensation technique. The restoration was accomplished at the next visit using composite resin. Conclusion: Root canal treatment on teeth with chronic apical periodontitis was successfully carried out.

Abstract

Background: Insufficient bone condition can pose a significant challenge in dental implant procedures. The success of implant therapy relies on having sufficient bone thickness at the implant site. Factors such as bone atrophy, periodontal disease, trauma, and intermaxillary relationships (vertical, horizontal, and sagittal) can lead to insufficient bone volume for placing implants. To address this issue, bone augmentation techniques are commonly used to restore function and improve aesthetics in areas with inadequate bone. Various techniques and materials are available for bone augmentation, including Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR), which is one of the known methods with varying success rates. Objective: provide information about the management of bone augmentation in dental implants using the GBR technique. Case report: involves a 21-year-old male patient who sought treatment at a clinic to resolve functional issues and prevent dental shifting following a tooth extraction. The patient desired permanent dentures for the left mandibular area. After undergoing several examinations, it was determined that dental implants on tooth 46, with a diameter of 4.1 mm and length of 10 mm, accompanied by a cemented-screw type porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown, would be appropriate. In this particular case, the GBR technique with allograft bone grafts was employed for bone augmentation. After approximately one year of observation, evidence of new bone formation was observed, indicating the success of the dental implant treatment. Conclusion: there are several effective techniques for correcting inadequate bone conditions before placing dental implants.

Abstract

Background: Dental caries remains a common condition among people of all ages, as indicated by its impact on the elderly and young people. Proximal caries become more prevalent and eventually dominate the decayed filled surfaces (DFS) score The current restorative dentistry technique aims to induce remineralization of hypomineralized carious dentine, thus conserving and preserving the vital pulp, it could reduce the need for more invasive endodontic therapy. Unexposed pulp with minor inflammation from traumatic injuries or cavities has a good chance of being repaired, It is predicted that pulp tissue will have a repair capacity following removal of a caries lesion. The goal of indirect pulp therapy is to preserve tooth life by regenerating reparative dentin at the material-pulpal complex, which functions as a biological seal.Case report: A 26-year-old male patient presented to the endodontic and conservative dentistry department complaining of discomfort caused by thermal stimulation on the permanent maxillary right premolar and molar. The radiograph examinations revealed no radiolucencies in the periapical region and an interproximal caries lesion on the maxillary right second premolar and first molar with a deep distal caries lesion on the secondary premolar, close to the pulp. Thermal pulp vitality testing confirmed the sensitivity of the pulp. The treatment approach was devised to maintain the vitality of the pulp. Infected dentin was removed and lined with a calcium silicate-based substance, followed by the placement of composite resin as a final restoration. Conclusion: Using light-cured calcium silicate material showed advantages in clinical performance as an indirect pulp capping agent.

Abstract

The opening of the sinus cavity due to tooth extraction, infection, or some complications so that an abnormal pathway is formed is oroantral communication. If the abnormal pathway fails to close, it turns into an oro-antral fistula. In this case report, patients performed tooth 16 and 17 extractions, but oroantral communication only occurred in the socket after tooth extraction 16. The diagnosis of oroantral communication is established based on the patient's complaints when gargling after tooth extraction, patients complain of water coming out of the nasal cavity and smell of blood. Then it was confirmed by clinical examination by instructing the patient to close the nose and then blow air while examining the retraction socket area, the results of the examination showed air passing through the blood in the retraction socket. The management of this case is done by giving a gelatin sponge into the socket and suturing with the figure of eight techniques or with non-surgical treatment. The results of the treatment showed the closure of oroantral communication.
