Abstract

Background : Lichen Planus is an autoimmune condition suspected to be an abnormal T-cell immune response targeting the basal epithelium, which is perceived as a foreign body. This leads to alterations in the cell surface and results in persistent inflammation. Clinically, it commonly presents in six forms: reticular (Wickham’s striae), erosive, atrophic, plaque-like, papular, or bullous lesions. The etiology of Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) remains unknown; however, several predisposing factors are believed to be associated with its manifestation, including immunodeficiency, allergies, psychological stress, mucosal trauma, genetic predisposition, and adverse drug reactions. Objective: To inform the patient about the lesion on the buccal mucosa and to determine an appropriate treatment plan. Case Report: A 62-year-old male patient come to RSGM-P Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Trisakti, with complaints of reddish-white patches on the inner cheeks (both left and right) accompanied by pain. Conclusion: The diagnosis was established based on patient history and clinical examination, identifying Oral Lichen Planus triggered by psychological stress. Management included symptomatic therapy with corticosteroid (prednisone), along with communication, instruction, and patient education.

Abstract

Background: The Pont Index is utilized as a method to predict the arch width of the maxilla in orthodontic treatment. An evaluation of the Pont Index in malocclusion patients at RSGM-P USAKTI is necessary to assess its relevance in planning and achieving successful orthodontic treatments. Objectives: This study aims to determine the accuracy of the Pont Index in malocclusion patients at RSGM-P USAKTI.. Methods: This research employed a descriptive-analytic design with a sample of 30 maxillary dental models from malocclusion patients at RSGM-P USAKTI during the 2022-2023 period. Measurements were conducted using a vernier caliper to determine the premolar and molar ratios based on the mesiodistal width of the maxillary incisor, interpremolar distance, and intermolar distance. Data analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk test and One-Sample Test with SPSS software. Results: The data analysis revealed that the average premolar and molar ratios were significantly different from the standard Pont Index values (0,80 for premolar and 0,64 for molar). This indicated that the Pont Index cannot be applied to predict dental arch width in patients with malocclusion at RSGM-P USAKTI Conclusion: The Pont Index is not relevant for use in the orthodontic treatment planning for the patients with malocclusion at RSGM-P USAKTI.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of malocclusion in Indonesia reaches 80% of the Indonesian population. Removable orthodontic treatment using clear aligners is increasingly sought after due to its superior aesthetics and comfort relative to fixed orthodontic alternatives. Clear aligners consist of a series of removable plastic devices designed to reposition teeth to their optimal alignment. Pain is a common side effect of orthodontic treatment. It’s a primary factor contributing to patient discomfort, which can result in treatment delays and even the discontinuation of orthodontic care. Orthodontic forces applied to reposition teeth result in pain. Objectives: To assess the level of pain caused by the use of clear aligners in orthodontic treatments. Methods: The study design of this research is observational descriptive, using scoping review as an approach in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. An electronic database search was performed using PubMed and Google Scholar between February and May 2024. Results: There were six studies identified in the final synthesis. The pain intensity among all the studies is measured in relation to the pain caused by orthodontic appliances. Pain reaches its maximum within the initial 24 to 48 hours during initial stage, after device insertion and progressively diminishes between the 3rd and 7th day.  Conclusion: the use of clear aligners results in mild pain intensity.

Abstract

Background: The elderly population is a group of people who are vulnerable have tooth loss so it is common to use of dental implant for replace it. Unfortunately, decreased function and changes in the condition of the tissues of the oral cavity and alveolar bones due to the aging process are often make installation of implant more complicated. Futhermore, in the elderly often found systemic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis or cardiovascular diseases that affect the installation of implants. But if the quality and quantity of alveolar bone and soft tissue are adequate accompanied by a healthy elderly condition, it is possible that implant placement will be succesfull. Case Report: A 69-years-old male patient attended a clinic to replace his missing right lower teeth with permanent denture. After undergoing several examinations, it was decided to perform dental implant on tooth 46, diameter 3.8 mm and length 10.5 mm with a cemented-screw type PFM crown. The implant and PFM crown were successfully placed in tooth 46 and patients were comfortable with the implant without any complaints of pain. Conclusion: chronological age by itself is suggested as one of the risk factors for success, but it would not be a contraindication as long as the condition of the alveolar bone is adequate and systemic disease is well controlled.

Abstract

Background: A dental implant is a prosthetic or alloplastic material, which is embedded in the bone, to maintain retention and support for fixed or removable dental prosthetics. One of the challenging obstacles in dental implant treatment is marginal bone resorption. Early marginal bone loss (MBL) is a non-infective remodelling process of variable entity occurring within the first year after implant placement. It has a multifactorial etiology, being influenced by both surgical and prosthetic factors. Marginal bone loss is an important indicator to determine long term success of implant treatment. Radiographic evaluation are very renowned way to assess the longitudinal bone attachment to the implant. Case report : A 32 -year-old female patient came to RSGM USAKTI with a chief complaint of missing lower right posterior teeth 15 years ago due to big caries. Patient wanted to replace with implant. Comprehensive evaluation, like CBCT was done to make sure that she was indicated for dental implant. Insertion of BTK implant was done on the first phase of surgery. Implant was left for 3 months for osseointegration. Radiographic evaluation of the second phase of surgery there was a bone resorption about 2- 4 mm, but no mobililty, no signs of inflammation and no pain. In this case, Initial bone resorption diagnosis is essential because it gives the clinician a guideline for the necessity of corrective and preventive treatments. Conclusion: maintenance of gingival health around implant is important for decreasing bone loss.

Abstract

Background: Tooth loss can lead to functional and aesthetic disturbances in the oral cavity. The placement of dental implants is an effective solution in restoring oral function and aesthetics. Advancements in technology have allowed for digital pre-surgical planning and fully guided implant placement, enabling precise and optimal outcomes. The aim of this case report is to describe the treatment steps in implant placement with a fully guided digital approach. Case Report: The patient presented with a complaint of a missing lower right tooth and desired a permanent dental prosthesis. The patient had no significant history of systemic diseases or allergies. After clinical and radiographic examinations, a treatment plan was established for dental implant placement in tooth 46. The treatment plan included digitally designing a surgical guide and utilizing the fully guided technique for implant placement. The surgical procedure was performed in two stages. The first stage involved implant placement. The second stage involved gingival augmentation and placement of a healing abutment. Subsequently, the patient underwent the prosthetic phase, including fabrication of a monolithic zirconia implant crown, and crown insertion. Conclusion: The dental implant treatment provided the patient with satisfactory aesthetics and functionality. The utilization of the fully guided technique, augmentation using existing soft tissues, and the selection of an appropriate crown material yielded favourable results. Proper pre-operative planning, consideration of biological factors such as hard and soft tissues, and a prosthetic-driven approach are crucial for achieving successful dental implant placement.

Abstract

Background: Losing teeth can cause problems such as the emergence of mastication, aesthetics, and phonetics. One of the solutions to restore these functions is dental implant. This method is in demand because apart from being able to restore function, the implant will also protect the jawbone from the process of resorption due to tooth loss. This is possible because dental implants are surgically implanted into the jawbone, then dentures can be placed over them to adapt the oral condition Case report: A 63-year-old woman with controlled hypertension came with complain of extracted lower right tooth 1 year ago and she wanted a fixed prosthesis to replace this tooth. She had not good experience with removeable denture at upper jaw. the jawbone has undergone resorption due to tooth loss which was not immediately rehabilitated. A single unit Straumann BLT dental implant of diameter 3.3 mm x height 10 mm is placed on this patient after treatment planning with radiograph image and study model analysis. Screw-cemented retained prosthesis was delivered on the implant to restore the function and aesthetic of the missing 46 tooth. Conclusion: Good planning and proper procedure during implant placement and restoration will lead to an excellent long-term aesthetic and functional outcome.
