Abstract

This research aimed at to know 1) how the planning of bilingual education in teaching and learning process at Bali Bilingual School kindergarten; 2) how the implementation of bilingual education in teaching and learning proses especially for early childhood at Bali Bilingual School kindergarten; 3) how the evaluation of bilingual education in teaching and learning process at Bali Bilingual School kindergarten. This research used case study method and qualitative approach for about two months. As for the data collection techniques were used observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis activity consisted of three simultaneous activity flow, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion/verification. The research findings are 1) lesson planning is not accordance with the criteria of bilingual program because it is only made in Indonesia; 2) implementation of bilingual education in teaching and learning process is not done optimally; 3) learning evaluation is not accordance with the criteria of bilingual program because it is only made in Indonesia. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of bilingual education in Bali Bilingual School kindergarten both from the planning, teaching learning process, and learning evaluation has not run optimally.

Abstract

This is a classroom action research which aimed to improve the speaking ability of the Pandawa Staff at Kutuh Village. The subjects of this research are 16 people which had low ability at speaking English especially in explaining about Pandawa Beach and its surrounding. It can be seen from the pre test which was 49.81. To solve this problem, the researcher used a speaking technique which is called Role Play to improve their speaking ability. The data of this research were collected from the pre test, post test 1, post test 2, post test 3 which were analyzed with statistical analysis. The result of this researh showed a significant improvement in speaking ability after the implementation Role Play. It can be seen from the average value of the pre cycle, cycle I, cycle II, cycle III, which were: 49.81 ; 59.56; 67.69; and 76.88.

Abstract

This present study used a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design in which either a single group or multiple groups were observed subsequently to some agent or treatment presumed to give change. The undertaking research was mainly intended to find out whether or not students’ video production based on Subak Cultural Landscape influenced the speaking ability at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Tampaksiring. The students were required to make some groups consisting of 8-9 students and produced their own video related to a material taken from Subak Cultural Landscape text book. Meanwhile, the instruments used by the researcher were tests and questionnaire. After obtaining all the required data then the researcher used matched t-test formula to analyze the data. The result of the data analysis showed that, the mean score of pre-test was 43.22 and the mean score of post-test was 51.11. Based on the data calculation, the t-observed was higher than the t-table; therefore, the hypothesis of the study was accepted which meant there was a significant influence of students’ video production on speaking ability of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Tampaksiring.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a process of transferring information from the writer to the readers. The subjects of the present study had difficulty in identifying general information, specificinformation, textual meaning, and textual reference of reading texts. The objective of the present study was to find out whether or not reading comprehension of the eleventh grade students of SMA (SLUA) Saraswati 1 Denpasar can be improved through KWL Stragey. Therefore, to achieve the objective of the present study, the researcher administered the research instruments : pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. The students’ mean score had improved significantly from the pre-test was 61.63% to 76.35% in cycle I and 81.58 in cycle II. Based on the result in cycle II, the next cycle did not need to be conducted because the researcher expectation achieved in the cycle II. Besides, the result of the questionnaire indicated the students responded the application of KWL strategy in teaching reading comprehension positively. It could be seen that the result of the questionnaire showed the percentage more than 90% agreed on implementation KWL strategy to improve reading comprehension.

Abstract

Writing is a productive skill in which each sentence should be organized to make meaningful writing. The English teacher of SMPN 2 Denpasar commonly used closedended test providing two different descriptive paragraphs and the students differentiate it. However, the test was quite simple and easy for the eighth grade students and it tended to assess reading. The present study aimed to figure out the descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Denpasar in academic year 2018/2019 through dicto-comp. The research used ex post facto research design with descriptive analysis. The population was the eighth grade students of SMPN 2 Denpasar totaling 333 students. There were 50 samples determined by using simple random sampling technique with lottery system. The obtained data were analyzed by using norm-reference measure of five standard value. The result showed that there were 72.00% of the samples who were successful and 28.00% of the samples under study were still unsuccessful in writing descriptive paragraph assessed by using dicto-comp.

Abstract

The present study was devoted to the implementation of a community service to Elementary school teachers aiming at improving the teachers’ competence in designing and implementing authentic assessment. Participants of this activity were the elementary school teachers in Klungkung district in which the total number was 35 teachers. Before the training started, the teachers were given preliminary test to determine the extent of the ability or competences of teachers on authentic assessment. After figuring out the initial abilities and identifying the needs of the teachers on authentic assessment, then the training was conducted. The results of the final test showed that the ability of teachers in designing and implementing authentic assessment increased significantly. In addition, interviews and questionnaires showed that the motivation of teachers on designing and conducting authentic assessment also increased positively.

Abstract

Speaking is one of crucial language skills that must be mastered by language learners as well as in learning English. In this study, speaking became the main problem dealt by the students especially the eleventh grade students of SMA PGRI 6. The objective of this study was to figure out whether or not speaking skill could be improved by implementing British Parliamentary style debate in the teaching learning process. The results of the post-test in each cycle pointed out there were significant improvements on the subjects’ speaking after implementing British Parliamentary style debate. In addition, the mean figure of the reflection of each cycle, cycle I and II, was 64.93 in cycle I and 76.37 in cycle II. On the other hand, the subjects responded by giving positive responses toward the implementation of British Parliamentary style debate in teaching and learning process. Thus, the present classroom action research showed that speaking skill of the eleventh-grade students of SMA PGRI 6 Denpasar could be improved by implementing British Parliamentary style debate.

Abstract

The study aims at figuring out whether or not the speaking skill at the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kuta Utara in academic year 2019/2020 can be improved through the implementation of Guessing Games.The subjects were the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kuta Utara.There were 36 subjects which consist of 12 females and 24 males.The design was classroom action research design. The research was carried out through implementing Guessing Games in two cycles and the obtained data was analyzed quantitively from the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2; then qualitatively from the questionnaire. The result showed that the students’ mean score had significant improvement from the pre-test was 49.72 to 64.86 in post-test 1, and 75.69 in post-test 2. Furthermore, to collect the additional supporting data; the researcher administered the questionnaire at the end of cycle II. It showed that the students responded positively and it could be seen that the result of the questionnaire showed the percentage of 60.68% Sangat Setuju/SS (strongly agreed) with the implementation of Guessing Games in improving speaking skill.

Abstract

The research aims at finding out the correlation between self-efficacy and speaking skill of the tenth grade students of SMA N 6 Denpasar in academic year 2019/2020. There were two variables: self-efficacy (X) and speaking skill(Y). In taking the research, cluster random sampling was applied. The subjects were the tenth grade students of SMA N 6 Denpasar in academic year 2019/2020. There were 70 subjects which consist of 36 males and 34 females. The design was correlational research design. In collecting the data, the researher used two instruments which were self-efficacy questionnaire consisted of 27 items and monologue speaking test. The data was analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation in IBM SPSS Statistics 23.0. According to the result of the analysis and statistical calculation, it is found that r was 0.727. It shows that there is significant correlation between self-efficacy and speaking skill of the tenth grade students of SMA N 6 Denpasar in academic year 2019/2020, it lies between 0.600 – 0.800 which is in high level.

Abstract

The present study aimed at improving speaking skill through simulation technique assisted with realia toward the first semester students of ELESP FKIP Unmas Denpasar in academic year 2019/2020. The subjects consisted of 32 subjects. Based on the result of the pre-test which was carried out in pre-cycle, the subjects’ speaking skill in performing the oral dialogue was categorized to be insufficient. This present study was then carried out through implementing simulation technique assisted with realia in two-planned cycles and in each cycle consisted of two successive sessions. The results of post-tests in each cycle showed that there was a significant improvement concerning the subjects’ speaking skill in which it improved from insufficient to good level. This research also showed that there were positive responses concerning the technique implemented in improving the subjects’ speaking skill. To sum up, the present study provided empirical evidences that speaking skill of the first semester students of ELESP FKIP Unmas Denpasar in academic year 2019/2020 could be improved through simulation technique assisted with realia.
