Abstract

Writing skill is one of the four essential language skills that must be mastered by students. However, many students continue to struggle with writing. The objective of this classroom action research was to investigate whether the writing skill of the seventh-grade students of PoMe Educircle in the academic year 2024/2025 could be improved through the implementation of the Picture-Cued Technique combined with Guided Writing. To achieve this goal, the researcher conducted a pre-test, post-tests, and administered a questionnaire. The result of the pre-test showed that the students' initial writing ability was relatively low, with an average score of 55.62. After applying the combined technique, post-tests were administered at the end of each cycle, showing improvement to 61.47 in cycle I and 79.53 in cycle II. The significant improvement indicated that the technique was effective. Furthermore, a questionnaire was distributed at the end of cycle II to obtain additional supporting data. It revealed that students demonstrated increased motivation and a more positive attitude toward writing after the implementation. In conclusion, this study showed that the writing skill of the seventh-grade students of PoMe Educircle could be effectively improved through the Picture-Cued Technique combined with Guided Writing. The students also responded positively to the learning process.

Abstract

This study explored the perceptions of novice university students toward the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in developing English speaking skills. This qualitative study aims to investigate how novice learners perceive the role of AI in supporting their English speaking practice. The participants of this study were 10 novice learners of English Education Study Program who were determined by purposive sampling among 22 students who enrolled the Speaking for Informal Interaction Course. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews which were then analyzed by identifying themes related to learners’ perceptions of AI integration in speaking activities. The findings showed that in general the learners had positive view toward the use of AI in enhancing their speaking skills. They reported that AI tools provided opportunities for more frequent speaking practice, immediate feedback on pronunciation, and greater confidence in expressing their ideas. However, there are challenges noted, such as limited interaction quality compared to human communication. Overall, this study indicated that the integration of AI in speaking activities can support novice English learners in improving their speaking competence, confidence and engagement.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate integrated English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching practice in a speaking class. Three areas of integration were examined: technology integration, integration of 21st-century skills (4Cs), and language skills integration. Employing a case study method, this research focused on one lecturer purposively selected for actively implementing integrated instructional practices. Data were collected through classroom observations conducted during two online meetings via Zoom. The findings indicate that the lecturer successfully integrated technology through the use of Zoom, Google Classroom, YouTube, and WhatsApp, which supported student engagement, enhanced understanding, and extended learning opportunities based on the Triple E framework. Additionally, the 4Cs—critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration—were incorporated through discussion activities, information searching, evaluation tasks, and a group video presentation project. The lecturer also integrated all four language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), despite the primary focus on speaking. Overall, the integrative teaching practices were found to optimize students’ learning experiences and strengthen the effectiveness of EFL instruction.

Abstract

Proficiency in writing involves not only understanding linguistic elements but also being able to process language and information in real-time. Preliminary research showed that most VIII G students at SMPN 4 Sukawati needed help with writing, particularly paragraph organization. To accomplish the goal, the researchers carried out two cycles of classroom action research. Tests, questionnaires, and research tools were used to gather the necessary data. Comparing the pre-test and post-test findings allowed for data analysis and revealed that the subjects' mean scores had significantly improved from the pre-test to the post-test. The questionnaire findings, also given out after the last cycle, provided evidence that the use of think pair share was well received. It may be inferred from the study instruments' results that think-pair-share can help SMPN 4 Mengwi seventh-grade students' writing abilities.

The obtained data were statistically analysed by using Normality Test, Homogeneity Test, Pearson product moment correlation and T-test. Then the result of correlations is 0.93, which means the data > 0.05, it showed that the data was had high correlations. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking skills of the eighth-grade students of SMP N 4 Mengwi in the academic year 2024/2025.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the figurative language used in five popular songs by Bruno Mars from his first album: “Grenade,” “Just the Way You Are,” “The Lazy Song,” “Talking to the Moon,” and “Marry You.” Figurative language is important in songs because it helps express deep emotions and ideas. In “Grenade,” the singer uses hyperbole, metaphor, and symbolism to show the pain of one-sided love. He says things like “I’d catch a grenade for you” to show strong sacrifice. In “Just The Way You Are,” he uses simile, metaphor, and repetition to show love and admiration, comparing the girl’s beauty to stars and affirming she is perfect as she is. “The Lazy Song” employs casual, humorous imagery and repetition to convey feelings of relaxation and rebellion against responsibilities. “Talking to the Moon” uses metaphor and imagery to express loneliness and longing for connection. “Marry You” uses playful metaphor and repetition to express spontaneous love and commitment. All five songs use figurative language to enhance emotional impact and poetic beauty. This analysis shows how Bruno Mars’s use of figurative expressions creates strong feelings in listeners and helps deepen their understanding of the songs’ meanings.

Abstract

The integration of environmental issues into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning has gained increasing attention in response to global sustainability challenges. At the same time, the rapid growth of social media has transformed how students access and interact with language in digital environments. This study aims to explore the implementation of the Ecolinguistic Digital Learning (EDL) model as a model-based approach to integrating environmental discourse and digital literacy in EFL classrooms. Employing a quasi-experimental design supported by qualitative data, the study involved 26 undergraduate EFL students. Data were collected through classroom observations, student reflections, interviews, and reading–writing tasks. The findings indicate that the EDL model supports meaningful language learning by encouraging critical engagement with environmental discourse, enhancing digital literacy, and fostering ecological awareness. The study highlights the pedagogical potential of EDL as an innovative model that bridges ecolinguistics, social media, and EFL instruction.
