Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of revitalization of local cultural traditions through digital transformation and to formulate strategies for strengthening the cultural resilience of the Mataraman culture in the Pawitandirogo region. The study employs an ethnographic approach, positioning the community as the primary subject in understanding the meanings, values, cultural practices, and processes of adaptation to the development of digital technology. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), documentation, and the study of digital artifacts related to the community’s cultural practices. Research informants were selected through purposive sampling, including traditional leaders, cultural figures, artists, youth, educators, cultural community managers, and local government officials. Data analysis was conducted thematically through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions, and triangulation of sources, techniques, and time to ensure the credibility of the findings. The research results provide a comprehensive description of the local cultural revitalization practices emerging within the community, the ways in which digital transformation is utilized in the preservation of Mataraman culture, and collaborative strategies involving the public, cultural communities, educational institutions, and local governments to strengthen the resilience of local culture. The research findings are expected to serve as the basis for the development of adaptive, participatory, and sustainable cultural preservation policies and programs so that Mataraman’s cultural identity remains preserved amid the dynamics of a digital society.

Abstract

As sustainability becomes increasingly important in tourism industry. Destinations are expected to communicate sustainability values effectively through digital channels. However, existing studies on sustainability communication and digital marketing provide limited guidance on how sustainability can be systematically integrated into digital campaign planning. This study aims to develop a framework for integrating sustainability into digital campaign planning for tourism destinations. Using a Design Science Research approach, Chanaya Resort Bandung was employed as a case study. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis, followed by stakeholder validation involving academic, industry, and destination representatives. The study resulted in a Sustainable Digital Campaign Framework consisting of four interconnected layers: Strategic Foundation, Campaign Design, Campaign Execution, and Campaign Evaluation. The framework integrates audience persona and sustainability value as key inputs for developing campaign objectives, narratives, content strategies, activation activities, and evaluation mechanisms. Validation results indicate that the framework is relevant, practical, and applicable for tourism destinations. This study contributes to sustainable tourism marketing by providing a structured approach for translating sustainability values into digital communication and campaign planning.

Abstract

The continuously transforming global security landscape demands a new defense paradigm that transcends conventional military threats. Indonesia, as the world's largest archipelagic state with a crucial geostrategic position, faces a spectrum of non-traditional threats that are asymmetric, transboundary, and multidimensional, encompassing terrorism, cyber threats, maritime security challenges, climate change, and pandemics. This article aims to examine patterns of strategic leadership transformation in Indonesia's defense sector in responding to non-traditional security threats, while proposing an integrated new conceptual framework. Through a systematic literature review of 36 scholarly publications, this research reveals that Indonesia's strategic leadership transformation is moving from conventional hierarchical models toward adaptive leadership, yet faces structural obstacles including inter-institutional coordination gaps, legal ambiguity in Military Operations Other Than War (MOOTW), limited civilian capacity in defense oversight, and institutional resistance to military innovation adoption. As a novelty contribution, this article proposes a New 5-Pillar Conceptual Framework integrating: (1) Adaptive Leadership, (2) Civil-Military Governance, (3) Digital Transformation, (4) Hybrid Defense Doctrine, and (5) Regional Strategic Partnership. This framework is designed to bridge the gap between normative defense policy and operational implementation, while strengthening national resilience in facing an ever-evolving threat landscape.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the driving factors of the global manufacturing crisis and evaluate the legal protection frameworks for workers facing mass layoffs in Indonesia, Germany, and Vietnam. It explores how each nation adapts its national regulations to mitigate the socio-economic impacts of geopolitical instability and the global economic slowdown. Using a juridical-normative method with a comparative approach, the analysis is conducted through a legal-dogmatic lens, processing materials through technical, teleological, and external systematization levels. The study finds that although the manufacturing crisis is a shared global phenomenon, protective responses vary significantly. Indonesia relies on the Job Creation Law and the Job Loss Guarantee (JKP) social safety net. Germany emphasizes "socially justified" dismissals and the Kurzarbeit (short-time work) scheme to prioritize job retention. Meanwhile, Vietnam is modernizing its legal framework through the 2025 Employment Law, focusing on vocational retraining and a multi-pillar social insurance system. Legal protection must evolve from mere financial compensation toward a tripartite synergy between the government, employers, and labor unions. Effective protection requires a balance between labor market flexibility and robust social safety nets to ensure that termination is a last resort and that affected workers remain competitive in a shifting global economy.

Abstract

Cultural tourism destinations that endure across generations are rare, and the internal cultural dynamics that sustain them remain underexplored, particularly outside the energy and mobility sectors where the Cultures Framework (Stephenson, 2023) has predominantly been applied. This study examines the cultural ensemble of Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU), a Sundanese cultural tourism destination in Bandung, Indonesia, established in 1966, to understand how its motivators, activities, and materiality are associated with sustainability outcomes. Utilizing an exploratory sequential mixed-methods design, the qualitative phase involved in-depth interviews with 17 informants across five actor groups alongside participant observation. This phase identified five motivator values, four activity categories, and four materiality components constituting SAU's cultural ensemble. These findings subsequently informed a 50-item instrument administered to 150 respondents during the quantitative phase. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that all three cultural ensemble dimensions were strongly and significantly associated with sustainability outcomes (Activities: r = .916; Motivators: r = .893; Materiality: r = .846; all p < .001), corresponding to large effect sizes. The instrument demonstrated excellent reliability (Cronbach's alpha ranging from .935 to .972). Materiality—particularly architectural and visual identity—emerged as a comparatively weaker dimension, indicating strategic avenues for targeted investment. These findings extend the application of the Cultures Framework to community-based cultural tourism within a developing-country context, demonstrating that destination sustainability is intrinsically tied to the coherence of its cultural ensemble. Practical and policy implications are discussed.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has significantly transformed the tourism industry, including homestay services that increasingly rely on digital platforms to improve customer experiences. However, the adoption of digital services among community-based homestays remains uneven, particularly in rural tourism destinations, creating challenges in maintaining tourist satisfaction, trust, and loyalty. This study aims to examine the effects of homestay service digitalization and tourist satisfaction on tourist loyalty through the mediating role of trust at Telaga Sarangan Tourism Destination, Magetan, Indonesia. A quantitative approach was employed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Data were collected from tourists who had stayed in homestays around Telaga Sarangan through structured questionnaires measured using a five-point Likert scale. The measurement model was evaluated through convergent validity, discriminant validity, composite reliability, and Cronbach's alpha, while the structural model was assessed using path coefficient analysis and bootstrapping. The findings indicate that homestay service digitalization significantly enhances tourist trust and loyalty. Tourist satisfaction also exerts significant positive effects on trust and loyalty. Furthermore, trust plays a significant mediating role in strengthening the relationships between homestay service digitalization and tourist loyalty as well as between tourist satisfaction and tourist loyalty. These findings suggest that improving digital service quality and enhancing tourists' satisfaction are essential strategies for increasing trust and fostering long-term tourist loyalty. The study contributes to the literature on digital tourism by highlighting the strategic role of trust in strengthening loyalty within community-based homestay services in rural tourism destinations.

Abstract

Retail environments increasingly function as communicationspaces where identity, symbolism, and experience influence consumer perceptions and behaviour. Despite extensive research on marketing and consumer decision making, limited studies have examined how owner identity, personal branding, store atmosphere, and store location operate as integrated communication elements shaping purchasing decisions. This study aims to analyse how these elements function as strategic communication drivers within a retail context and how they influence consumer purchase behaviour. The research adopts a quantitative approach using survey data collected from consumers who have interacted with a retail fashion environment. Data were analysed using multiple regression to examine both partial and simultaneous effects of communication-related variables on purchase decisions. The analysis focuses on how identity representation, visual branding, spatial design, and experiential cues contribute to consumer evaluation and decision processes. The findings reveal that owner identity, personal branding, store atmosphere, and location significantly influence purchase decisions both individually and collectively. Store location emerges as the most dominant factor, followed by atmosphere and personal branding, indicating the importance of spatial accessibility and experiential communication in shaping consumer responses. Owner identity also contributes by strengthening credibility and emotional connection between consumers and the retail brand. This study demonstrates that retail settings operate not only as commercial spaces but also as communication ecosystems in which symbolic identity, environmental cues, and experiential interaction collectively shape consumer trust and behavioural intention. The findings highlight the importance of integrating identity-based communication, experiential design, and spatial strategy to strengthen retail competitiveness and consumer engagement.

Abstract

The rapid development of social media has made political communication increasingly strategic in enabling political figures to build their personal branding through direct, interactive, and sustained engagement in the digital sphere. This study aims to analyze public perceptions of Gus Muhaimin’s political communication through social media in shaping his political image. The research employed a descriptive-exploratory qualitative approach within a constructivist paradigm using a case study method. Data were collected through non-participant observation of Gus Muhaimin’s social media content on Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube, semi-structured interviews with informants selected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques, and digital documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, complemented by thematic analysis. The findings indicate that public perceptions of Gus Muhaimin’s political communication reflect a consistent communication strategy implemented across multiple social media platforms through the integration of visual, verbal, and personal narrative elements, resulting in a coherent political image. The most prominent communication elements contributing to his personal branding include his religious-pesantren identity, the high visibility of his digital content, and an empathetic image toward ordinary citizens. Furthermore, visual narratives and storytelling play a central role in shaping public perceptions by portraying him as a religious, people-oriented, humanistic political figure who is closely connected with younger generations. The study also reveals that this communication strategy has considerable potential to strengthen emotional engagement with digital audiences. However, it continues to face challenges related to maintaining authenticity, ensuring consistency in the substance of political messages, and addressing public sensitivity toward excessive political image-building.
