Abstract

Introduction: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex hormonal disorder that affects many women worldwide, characterized in part by elevated androgen levels that can lead to various health complications. Traditional medicinal plants, such as Clitoria ternatea, have been explored as potential therapeutic agents for managing PCOS. Methods: This study employed an in silico approach to evaluate the interaction between active compounds in Clitoria ternatea and the androgen receptor. Molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and binding affinity analyses were conducted to assess the potential of these compounds in modulating androgen receptor activity Results: The computational analysis revealed that several active compounds in Clitoria ternatea exhibited favorable binding interactions with the androgen receptor, indicating a potential to modulate its activity. These compounds demonstrated stable interactions and promising binding energies in the molecular simulations. Conclusion These findings suggest that Clitoria ternatea may play a role in managing PCOS through modulation of androgen receptor activity. However, further in vitro and in vivo studies are required to validate these computational results and explore their therapeutic potential in clinical settings.

Abstract

Introduction: Choking is one of the leading causes of accidental death in toddlers, which can be prevented through first aid education. Unfortunately, mothers' knowledge of choking management is still low, and conventional education methods are uninteresting and difficult to understand. Therefore, innovative educational media is needed to effectively improve mothers' understanding. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental quantitative design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 31 mothers with toddlers at Aisyiyah 11 Kindergarten in Palembang, selected using total sampling. The intervention was carried out by providing health education using BOSQUE media, which consisted of booklets, comic strips, and quartet cards. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test because the data were not normally distributed. Results: The results showed a significant increase in mothers' knowledge after the intervention. The median knowledge score before the intervention was 9.00 and increased to 15.00 after the intervention. The Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), which means there was a significant difference between before and after the intervention. Conclusion: The BOSQUE media was effective in increasing mothers' knowledge of first aid for choking in toddlers. This media can be used as an alternative form of public health education that is fun, interactive, and easy to understand, especially for groups of mothers with low to medium levels of health literacy.

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of hypertension by age group shows that the elderly suffer the most, at over 62% compared to other age groups. Untreated hypertension can increase morbidity and reduce quality of life. Hypertension can be treated with non-pharmacological therapy in the form of foot hydrotherapy with herbal plants, such as galangal. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of warm water foot hydrotherapy with galangal rhizome on blood pressure. Methods: The research method used was a pre-experimental with a pre-post test without a control group design. Purposive sampling was used to determine the study sample, with 31 elderly respondents. The implementation of foot soak therapy using warm water with galangal rhizome at a dose of 6 grams, four times in six days for two weeks, with a duration of 15 minutes per session. Blood pressure was measured using a calibrated sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. Data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon test. Results: The Wilcoxon test results for systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p=0.001), meaning a p value <0.05, statistically showed a difference in blood pressure before and after the intervention. Based on these analysis results, it can be concluded that soaking feet in warm water mixed with galangal has an effect on reducing blood pressure in the elderly. Conclusion : Soaking feet in warm water mixed with galangal is effective in lowering blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension. Nurses should provide this intervention. However, conventional treatment should be continued. This therapy is only complementary. Keywords : Foot Hydrotherapy, Galangal, Blood Pressure, Elderly

Abstract

Introduction: Contemporary children tend to choose packaged beverages such as tea, soda, and energy drinks, which contain high levels of sugar. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) reported in 2021 that there were 1.2 million cases of diabetes mellitus among children aged 0–19 years. In Central Java, the prevalence of obesity among children aged 5–12 years reached 6% in 2024. Previous studies have focused solely on children’s dietary consumption patterns; however, the reasons why children prefer colorful and sweet beverages have not been explored. Moreover, prior research often involved only parents, teachers, or health workers, which does not fully capture children’s own perspectives. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the reasons preschool children prefer consuming colorful and sweet beverages. Method: This study employed a quantitative design with a descriptive approach. The sample consisted of all preschool children enrolled at Bina Atmaja Kindergarten in Semarang, totaling 25 children. A total sampling technique was applied. Data were collected through questionnaires completed by the preschool respondents and analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. Result: Respondents who purchased beverages because of their sweet taste totaled 21 children (83%). A total of 19 respondents (76%) were influenced by the low price, 14 respondents (56%) reported parental permission, and 12 respondents (48%) cited attractive colors as the reason for purchasing the drinks. Conclusion: Sweet taste was the most frequently reported reason preschool children consumed colorful and sweet beverages.
