Abstract

The religiously diverse society of NTT (Bumi Flobamora) has received national title as the most tolerant province in Indonesia. However, reality shows that there are religious conflicts, such as the rejection of the establishment of Islamic places of worship and the emergence of various forms of violence with religious nuances. This study attempts to provide a new contemporary social philosophy explanation for the development of religious social conditions. With the help of philosophical methods, the results show that the ideology of pluralism has long lived in Bumi Flobamora. However, this model of "traditional pluralism,” which is based on local wisdom and supported by the government's policy of harmony, is currently no longer in line with demands for universal human rights, because "traditional pluralism" shows the unequal treatment of people of different religions. Therefore, contemporary social philosophy develops a "modern pluralism,” which is built on the principle of equality. To strengthen this new model of pluralism, efforts are needed to overcome the weaknesses of communitarianism. The main weakness of communitarianism is that it opens up a space for religious appreciation that only emphasizes the togetherness and unity of a spiritual community and views those outside the community as other people who may or should even be excluded. The study concludes that the unity of religions in Bumi Flobamora will only survive if traditional pluralism is replaced with modern pluralism, which is in line with the Political Ethics of the Indonesian nation, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and the basic philosophy of Pancasila.

Abstract

This research challenges the materialistic view of humanity by offering a biblical and orthodox anthropological counter-narrative. It posits that human existence transcends mere matter, encompassing the body, soul, and spirit created in God's image and destined for divine communion (theosis). By examining key New Testament terms, such as natural, carnal, and spiritual man, through the lens of Patristic thought, particularly Gregory Palamas and Philokalia, this study reveals a dynamic transformation process from the natural to the spiritual man. This contrasts with the reductionist approach to materialism, demonstrating the richness and depth of the biblical and Orthodox understanding of human nature. This study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of human identity and purpose by bridging the gap between biblical theology and contemporary philosophy, offering a fresh perspective on the complex interplay between the physical, spiritual, and divine aspects of humanity.

Abstract

Third-Person Effect theory (TPE) postulates that audiences deny the media's direct impact on themselves but perceive the same media as having a larger impact on others. This study examines TPE and its relationship with Islamic religiosity in shaping perceptions of moral and non-moral issues on social networking sites (SNS) among students at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Another objective of this study is to determine how students perceive the effect of moral and non-moral issues in SNS on themselves compared to others. This study employed a quantitative design, with 357 students from the IIUM serving as respondents. The findings indicate that participants perceive moral issues as affecting others more than themselves, which is consistent with TPE. However, non-moral issues are perceived as influencing both the self and others. The results also indicate that Islamic religiosity positively affects the perceived impact of moral issues on others and non-moral issues on oneself in SNS. The data were analyzed using SPSS, with paired t-tests comparing self versus others' perceptions of moral and non-moral issues on SNS. The findings confirm that students perceive moral issues as having a greater impact on others than on themselves, aligning with TPE. Conversely, non-moral issues are perceived as influencing both the self and others, demonstrating SPE. The study also reveals that Islamic religiosity positively influences the perceived effect of moral issues on others and non-moral issues on oneself in SNS.

Abstract

This study explains the approaches used by the Institute for Research and Community Development Studies in School-Based Management (SBM) training for Islamic elementary schools in Magelang Regency. The data in this qualitative study were collected through observation techniques, interviews, and document studies obtained from training facilitators, principals, supervisors, school boards, and training organizing committees. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using qualitative techniques. The results of the study show that the leadership enculturation approach was used in training to strengthen the leadership of Islamic elementary schools. The leadership enculturation approach was adjusted to the stages of SBM training as follows: 1) Partnership leadership enculturation was used to strengthen school leadership in preparing follow-up plans after SBM training. 2) Mentoring collaborative leadership enculturation was used to strengthen school leadership in schools’ action implementation. 3) Evaluative leadership enculturation was used to strengthen school leadership in measuring and assessing the training process, training outcomes, and the impact of change on schools. The school leadership enculturation approach adjusted to the training stages can be used to ensure the implementation of SBM in schools after training.

Abstract

This study investigated the role of Islamic education teachers in mitigating the negative impacts of TikTok on teenagers in Lampung, Indonesia. This study aimed to assess the extent of TikTok usage among teenagers, identify the associated negative effects, and analyze the strategies employed by Islamic religious education teachers to address these issues. This field study employed a qualitative case study approach, with a sample consisting of 455 adolescents (both male and female) aged 12 to 18 years, and 35 Islamic education teachers who actively participated in the intervention. Data collection was conducted in three stages: observation, interviews, and document analysis. Questionnaires and instruments were designed, and data obtained from Islamic education teachers were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman theoretical framework. The findings revealed that TikTok has a significant negative impact on adolescents, manifesting in various detrimental outcomes. Islamic religious education teachers have already implemented numerous roles and solutions to combat these issues, highlighting the necessity of a comprehensive and serious approach to address this problem. This study underscores the importance of empowering adolescents to resist the risks associated with the unwise and morally harmful use of TikTok, thus protecting their ethical development and well-being.

Abstract

This article aims to critically evaluate the relocation of the capital city of Indonesia based on the principles of al-maqāṣid (the objectives of Islamic law), as outlined in the existing legislation. The relocation of a capital city has historical precedence in Islamic tradition, with its primary justification being the fulfillment of the public good (maslahah). Through a normative legal study, this research reveals that the objective of relocating national capital is fundamentally a secondary need (ḥājiyyāt) rather than a primary necessity (ḍarūriyyāt) for the Indonesian populace. This classification indicates that the process of developing new national capital may face significant challenges in the future, as it does not address an essential or urgent need, but rather a secondary one. Consequently, the potential for encountering serious issues during the development and implementation phases of new capital is high, warranting a careful and well-considered approach to avoid future complications.

Abstract

Many observers believe that holding general elections during a pandemic is ineffective in attracting public interest, including in Central Kalimantan. This study aimed to examine how the public's animo in the gubernatorial election during the Covid-19 pandemic, through religious and cultural approaches, in which the Central Kalimantan people still respected traditional and religious leaders as role models. This research used descriptive qualitative data collected through interviews with traditional and religious leaders and related documents obtained from election administrators. The findings showed that socialization was a reasonably good tool and strategy carried out by traditional leaders and religious leaders at specific events with cultural (local tradition, Dayak language) and religious approaches (through speech in churches and other religious places of worship). Socialization by traditional and religious leaders contributes to public animo in the gubernatorial election in Central Kalimantan.

Abstract

This article explores the compromises made between local customs (adat) and Islamic religious practices in the daily lives of Muslim communities in Jayawijaya, Indonesia. Adat and Islam are two influential elements that profoundly shape societal norms, and their interaction often leads to a dynamic negotiation of values and practices. When Islamic teachings are introduced into a community with deeply rooted traditions, there is often tension between the demands of religion and established cultural customs. This phenomenon is not unique to Jayawijaya. Similarly, when Islam was first revealed in Arab society, it encountered established traditions and customs that had been passed on for generations. In Jayawijaya, local customs are deeply embedded in the lives of Muslims, including initiation ceremonies, marriages, funerals, and other sacred rituals. A significant aspect of these rituals is the communal pig feast, which traditionally occurs in the silimo (courtyard) of homes. Recognizing the need to harmonize these practices with Islamic teachings, the author endeavors to standardize these rituals by replacing pigs with animals that are halal (permissible) for consumption and aligning ceremonies with Islamic law. This study sheds light on the intricate balance between preserving cultural heritage and adhering to religious obligations, thereby providing a framework for similar contexts in which religion and tradition intersect.

Abstract

This study investigated the factors influencing motivations for using religious digital media (RDMUM) among 330 Jordanian university students through hierarchical regression analysis. The analysis revealed that demographic factors, particularly age and gender, significantly predicted motivation, with younger individuals and males showing higher engagement. Educational level, explicitly having a BA degree, also influences motivation, whereas university location and specialization do not have significant effects. The type of digital media used (websites, social media, podcasts) does not significantly impact motivation, although a negative association with Twitter suggests that platform-specific characteristics may affect engagement. Prior knowledge and specific interests in Islamic thought, faith, and jurisprudential topics are strong motivators that highlight the importance of content relevance and depth. The final model, which explains 49% of the variance in the RDMUM, underscores the robust explanatory power of the included variables. These findings emphasize the need for tailored content to address user interests and knowledge levels. Content creators and practitioners can leverage these insights to develop more engaging and effective religious digital media, ultimately enhancing users’ engagement and satisfaction. Moreover, this study's potential to inspire and guide future research in this field is significant and contributes to the academic community's understanding of religious digital media.
