Abstract

Waste management with the old paradigm (collection, transportation, disposal) causes waste to be concentrated in landfills in large quantities (Tchobanoglous et al., 1993). Waste that ends up in landfills will undergo a decomposition process and cause emissions of one of the GHGs, namely methane gas (CH4). This gas causes an effect 20-30 times greater than carbon dioxide gas (CO2) (Damanhuri, E., & Padmi, T., 2015. Effective waste management in urban areas poses a major challenge in reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and ensuring environmental sustainability. This research analyzes the optimization of waste management and recycling as a strategy to lower GHG emissions in several major cities in Indonesia. A qualitative approach was employed, utilizing surveys and interviews with stakeholders, including government, waste managers, and community members. The findings indicate that an integrated management system, accompanied by educational programs and incentives for community participation, can enhance recycling rates and reduce waste volume. The reduction in GHG emissions positively correlates with decreased poorly managed waste and increased use of recycled materials. This study emphasizes the importance of collaboration among government, community, and private sectors in creating sustainable management systems, while recommending policies to raise awareness and improve urban waste management infrastructure, ultimately supporting the conservation of natural resources.

Abstract

The waste problem in Indonesia has become a serious problem. As much as 64.88% of the tens of millions of tons of waste per year is organic waste. Although classified as organic waste, this remains a major concern due to the various negative impacts caused by it. The purpose of this study was to explore the latest information regarding the effectiveness of maggots in overcoming the problem of organic waste. The research method used in writing this article is descriptive analysis with a literature study method. The results of the study indicate that maggots are able to decompose organic waste by actively eating it for 2-3 weeks for the growth process. By eating organic waste, these black soldier fly larvae are able to grow and develop well. Therefore, organic waste can be decomposed and reduced by making it into maggot feed. In addition, the maggots produced can also be used as feed for chickens, fish, or other animals. The remaining organic waste decomposition by maggots can also be used as organic fertilizer that fertilizes the soil. Thus, it can be concluded that black soldier fly larvae (maggots) have proven effective in overcoming the problem of organic waste.

Abstract

The background of the problem underlying this research is the students' low understanding of basic scientific concepts such as the introduction of nature, animals, plants and the surrounding environment. This can be seen from the results of initial observations that show a gap in the ability to recognize, read, and write related to the world of science. This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used include observation, interviews, and documentation. The main data sources came from students, teachers, and observations of learning activities carried out at Nurul Illmi Kindergarten. Data analysis techniques were carried out inductively, by identifying patterns in the data obtained to draw conclusions related to the impact of the application of science literacy. The results showed a significant increase in students' scientific thinking skills after the science literacy program was implemented. Out of 30 students, 22 students showed good progress, 5 students were in the moderate category, and 3 students were still in the deficient category. This indicates that the program is effective in improving children's understanding and scientific thinking skills. As a follow-up, this study serves as a reference for researchers and teachers to look more carefully at science literacy programs as a fundamental need for children in learning.

Abstract

One of the main problems in the world of education is the weak learning process. Learning in the classroom tends to only teach memorization of information without connecting it to applications in everyday life. The purpose of this research is to find out problems related to material that are considered difficult and how to solve these learning in physics learning at MTS. The methodology of this study uses a mixed method ̧ where quantitative data is then strengthened with qualitative data. In this study, 2 science teachers, 30 students of grade VII MTS. This study uses interview, observation, and questionnaire instruments. Data is collected by directly going down to the field and analyzed using descriptive analysis for quantitative and qualitative analysis of interview results so that the data obtained becomes comprehensive. The results showed that students had difficulty distinguishing principal and derivative quantities (60%), understanding unit conversions (70%), writing unit symbols correctly (50%), and using measuring tools (57%). After applying Canva-based experimental video media, there was an increase in students' understanding of physics concepts, with an increase in understanding of principal and derivative quantities from 40% to 80%, unit conversion from 30% to 75%, and skills using measuring tools from 43% to 78%. The conclusion of this study is that the use of Canva-based interactive media can be an effective solution in improving students' understanding of the concept of quantities and units, especially for schools that have limited laboratory facilities.

Abstract

The global environmental crisis—marked by deforestation, land degradation, pollution, and climate change—is a consequence of unsustainable natural resource (NR) exploitation. Population growth and the dominance of pragmatic economic paradigms are key drivers of environmental destruction. This article examines the role of philosophy in NR management as an alternative approach that is more ethical and sustainable. Using a literature review method, this study analyzes environmental philosophical perspectives—particularly anthropocentric, biocentric, and ecocentric ethics—and their relevance in shaping policies and ecological awareness. The findings show that integrating philosophical values can foster moral awareness toward nature, strengthen justice-based environmental policies, and support holistic development approaches. The study also highlights failures in NR management due to ethical crises, such as overfishing in Indonesian waters and deforestation linked to food estate projects. Community-based management models and local wisdom—such as sasi and subak systems—are shown to be more aligned with ecocentric and sustainable principles. Therefore, a paradigm shift is needed—from an exploitative approach to a philosophical one that sees humans as part of, not rulers over, ecosystems. Integrating philosophy into NR management is not only essential for environmental preservation but also for ensuring the sustainability of future generations.

Abstract

The use of drugo in large quantities is called polypharmacy. The number of drug interactions depends on the number of drugs consumed, the possibility of drug interactions increases as more drugs are used in the prescription. This study aims to analyze the incidence of polypharmacy and drug interactions in outpatient prescriptions at Pekalongan City General Hospital. This study is a retrospective descriptive study conducted by analyzing outpatient prescription data for the period March–May 2023 at the hospital pharmacy depot. Prescription sheets containing two or more drugs (R/) were identified through reliable literature sources, namely www.drugs.com and www.medscape.com. Data were grouped and analyzed using SPSS spearman test. The results showed that of the total incidence of drug interactions of 877 patients, the gender of the patients was mostly female (68%), the age of the most was 26-45 years (58%), the number of drugs in the prescription was the largest two drugs with potential interactions 44%, the level of polypharmacy was moderate (48%), minor (21%), major (13%) and no interaction (18%). The largest number of diagnoses in the prescription was two diagnoses at 44%. The highest drug interaction mechanisms are pharmacodynamics (57.3%), pharmacokinetics (13%), unknown (29.7%). The most interacting drug combinations are rifampicin isoniazid 6.9%, furosemide cefixime 4.5% and sertraline gabapentin 4.5%. The correlation between the number of drug use and diagnosis according to the results of this study is a significant, strong and unidirectional correlation. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that polypharmacy in prescriptions can be minimized and drug interaction monitoring be tightened to reduce the risk of dangerous side effects.
