Abstract

The most crucial part of English learning is having and understand a proper vocabulary. To be involved in English academic as the learning topic, students must be able to have and understand words collection sufficiently. The purpose of this study is to find out that, the vocabulary learning through the game of Words of Wonders: Crossword in groups learning has been declared to perform better than individual learning. This study arises the quantitative analysis approach with a comparison design to reveal the students' vocabulary. The use of pre-test and post-tests vocabulary were utilized as the role of instruments within this study. The samples were the faculty of Management Secretary A and B of the academic year in 2019/2020, in Ciwaringin, Bogor. The results of this study infer that, the students who are taught by using Words of Wonders: Crossword in group learning has performed better than the students who learn individually. It is shown by the pre-test scores of 59.58 and 59.00, and post-test scores of 83.47 and 73.62

Abstract

Language is often considered one of the most difficult aaspects of language learning. For most foreign language learners, English has become the most important language in this world a fact that cannot be denied. all the human in the world that use language. Students need to be able to compered and produce spoken and writing. And also, meaning in a key word was speaking is the process of building and sharing meaning through the use of verbal and non-verbal symbols in a variety of contexts. Role play is a method of acting out particular ways of behaving or pretending to be other people who deal with new situations.This research goal is to describe the process of how the use of role play method to improve speaking skills in the communicative class of ASYEE (as-syafi'iyyah english excellent) course Darussalam boarding school in the academic year 2021/2022. The researcher limited the scope of the research only on the student’s speaking skillss. Especially the imitative speaking. The researcher only focuses on seven students. There were those whose average scores were 60,00 less than the KKM standard determined at the institution. This research method used the classroom action method (CAR), And in this research contains one cycle which every single cycle contains two meetings. Moreover, this research carried out according to classroom action research process. Steps such as: a preliminary study, planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. This classroom action research involved 23 students. but There are seven students in the research, because of their scores less than the KKM standard that has been determined at the institution. Based on analysed data, the score in the preliminary study was 28% student’s getting a minimum score of KKM. And then, it was decreased in the cycle 1 that 8%. And in cycle 2 was 0% students minimum of KKM. Therefore, the role play technique can significantly improve students' problems in speaking skills. Speaking skill can increase when they try to focus and relax on the material that the teacher has conveyed. If students have focused on the material, then understanding the material will be easier and students are not easily bored with the teacher's explanation. Based on Student Speaking Score from teacher in cycle 1, after using Role Play Method. The students speaking score of ASYEE (Assyafiiyyah English Excellent) in academic 2021/2022 after using the role play method being increased 80%.

Abstract

The main problem of this study was: Is it effective to Apply the Think-Pair-Share Model in teaching narrative reading comprehension to the eleventh-grade students of the Sriwijaya State Sports High School of Palembang? The method used in this research was the quasi-experimental method. The population of this study was all of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Olahraga Negeri Srwijaya Palembang in the academic year of 2021/2020. The sample of this study was classes XI. IPA 1 and XI. IPA 3 was taken through convenience nonrandom sampling. The data was collected through a reading comprehension test. They were pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed through a t-test formula. From this study it was found that the students’ pre-test average score in the experimental group was 55 and in the control group was 53.91. Meanwhile, the students’ post-test average score in the experimental group was 80 and the student's average score in the control group was 75. In addition of t-obtained were 2.049 where the value of t-table was 1.684 at df 74 in significance level of 0.05 and with one-tailed testing. Since the value of the t-obtained was higher than the critical value of the t-table (2.049>1.684), it can be concluded that teaching reading comprehension by Applying the Think-Pair-Share Model to the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Olahraga Negeri Sriwijaya Palembang was effective

Abstract

The objective of the research is to prove whether using movies differentiates students' achievement in descriptive style speaking between students who are taught using movies and students who are taught using non-movies. The subject of this research was the students of seventh grade in classes VII B and VII C. The number of the subject was forty-four. The design of the research was used as experimental research. After doing the treatments, the researcher gave a post-test to both classes with the same instrument. After the data had been collected by test, it was found that the pre-test average of the experimental class was 62.27, and the control class was 61.82. While the post-test average of the experimental class was 72.73 and the control class was 66.14. The obtained t-test was 2.454, whereas the t-table was 1.68 for a = 5%. The t-test score was higher than the t-table (2.454 > 1.67). It meant that Ha was accepted while Ho was rejected. T-test score was higher than the t-table, hence movie was effective in improving students’ speaking ability in the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Singojuruh in the academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract

Music is one of the means used by musicians to introduce a country's culture to the international community. In addition to the message they want to convey, their ideology and thoughts are also reflected in their songs. This study aims to determine the text analysis on Justin Bieber's song, entitled Lonely. Then, knowing the social cognition of the song Lonely created by Justin Bieber, as well as the social context in which the song developed. Text, social cognition, and social context were analyzed using Teun A. van Dijk's discourse analysis model. The research used in this study is a qualitative research type of library research. The research method used in this study is the intralingual and extralingual equivalent method. Based on the analysis that has been done, it can be concluded that the words used in the lonely song use simple words with a little figure of speech so that they are easy to understand. The social cognition of the song is based on the singer's mental awareness based on his personal experience and the social context in lonely song is a narrow view of the possible bouts of depression experienced by idols caused by society.

Abstract

Language is studied in Linguistics. In other words, linguistics is the scientific study of language. It has been mentioned by Lyons that Linguistics can be defined as the scientific study of Language. Error analysis is also studied in linguistics. It is used to determine someone's quality in using a second language or a foreign language. This study aims to analyze students' written text errors in Recount Text. This research is Research Analysis. The population is first-year students of the English Department at Al-Qolam Islamic Institute. There are 17 students. Student writing was analyzed using surface study taxonomy. The author found a total of 105 errors in student papers. It is also useful in everyday life, especially when giving public speeches. Because mistakes can be found not only in writing but also in conversation. Therefore, the writer suggests future writers utilize this research as an item to describe and compare the research topic with other theories because it will make a significant contribution to understanding errors.

Abstract

English is the language used by some parts of the world community to communicate globally. English courses at the Banyuwangi Marine Academy, especially in the Logistics Management study program, are mandatory subjects that must be taken by students. English has an important role because it is widely used in meeting the requirements of both graduates and jobs. Good graduates in education are meant to produce graduates who are able to master English. Even so, there are many obstacles encountered in learning English courses, including: (1) Students' views of English courses. (2) lack of facilities and infrastructure in learning. (3) Insufficient material. (4) inadequate teaching staff or lecturers. This condition at least provides an answer regarding the geography education study program that has not been maximized. The problems found make the learning process not optimal so that the quality of education in the geography education study program is not optimal and graduates are unable to compete universally. As a result, graduates cannot compete with students who have non-vocational education. So it can be concluded that the English course has a very important role in the Logistics Management study program at the Banyuwangi Marine Academy.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe how the use of OJT (On Job Training) as an English tour guide to improving students' speaking skills in Pang Pang Tanjung Pasir tour at Usaha Jasa Wisata of LKP ALOHA Tegaldlimo. It is hoped that OJT (On the Job Training) as an English tour guide can improve students' English speaking skills. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. Instruments for collecting data are observation, interviews, and documentation. The researcher analyzed the data using descriptive qualitative research. From the results of the study, researchers found answers to research problems, including 1) OJT (On the Job Training) as a tour becomes an effective speaking teaching to be applied by LKP Aloha EDU teachers in the tourism service business class. Moreover, the ojt method could enhance speaking skills. 2) With OJT (On The Job Training) as a tour guide, students can practice working as a tour guide and find out the challenge that exists in the field of work.3) The problems faced during the OJT (On Job Training) process as a tour guide are students who sometimes have difficulty understanding the accent of conversations with native tourists, pronunciation, content, and vocabulary, which caused a lack of confidence in students.

Abstract

This study uses CAR design of the research by using a qualitative approach. The purpose of this study was to find out the application of a task-based learning strategy by making introductory videos in students' speaking skills. Researchers made observations in the preliminary study to find out the problems faced by students in learning speaking. In the first cycle, the researchers had two meetings while in the second cycle the researchers had four meetings. The researchers started the teaching-learning activity by greeting, praying together, checking attendance. Then, the researchers delivered the material that has been determined, displayed a video and PPT related to the material, and gave question and answer session. After that, the researchers gave the task to the students to make an introductory video. The results of this study indicate that the application of a task-based learning strategy by making an introductory video for class VII SMPN 2 Siliragung has a positive impact on students’ speaking achievement. This is evidenced by the average number of students who has increased in each cycle. In the preliminary study, the average number of students' achievement was 62, then increased to 68 in the first cycle and increased to 80 in the second cycle. Thus, this research is declared successful because the results obtained by students in the second cycle have met the predetermined success criteria (70).

Abstract

Definitions of grammar often refer to the study of language as a system of words that demonstrate some apparent rule of structure and arrangement into sentences. Sometimes the definition includes pronunciation, meaning of words, and history of words (etymology). Some definitions emphasize grammar as a system of rules in a language. In simplest term, grammar covers the rules that govern the way our communication system works. In order to meet the need of grammar teaching, in pedagogical field, there have been some methods and approach which are applied. However, critics pertaining to the weaknesses of such methodology have been aroused. The main question as the result of the quest for better methodology for grammar teaching is what appropriate method or approach as an alternative way of grammar teaching is. This theoretical research is aimed to propose the influential alternative approach for grammar teaching. This study will start by describing the historical view of grammar teaching and pointing out the link between language input and pedagogical mediation, in plain language between grammars and teaching, by introducing and redefining the concept of pedagogical grammar. Eventually, as the ultimate aim of this research this study is going to explain the current development of grammar teaching, lexical approach, as the problem solver concerning with grammar teaching.
