Abstract

This research objectives to know students' ability in speaking through the British Parliamentary Debate Technique (BPDT) and how the interest of students of University of Muhammadiyah Bone-in academic year 2021-2022 in speaking skill through the use of BPDT. This study uses a pre-experimental method. The data on the students’ speaking proficiency were collected through the use of BPDT and the students’ interest was measured by a questionnaire. The data acquired were then analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. The use of the British Parliamentary Debate Technique (BPDT) in classroom activities significantly improved the speaking proficiency achievement of English students of University of Muhammadiyah Bone. This is all based on the probability value (0.00) which shows it is smaller than the value of the significance level at (0.05).while the students' speaking interest aspect shows a high category based on the students' average score is 81.53

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether or not the use of VOA (Voice of America) Learning English improve the students’ speaking skill in terms of accuracy and fluency at tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang. The researcher used pre-experimental design with one group pre-test post-test design. The researcher conducted pre-test, treatment and post-test in the total of six meetings. The sample was class X OTKP 2 (Otomatisasi dan Tata Kelola Perkantoran) which consisted of 19 students. The instrument of this research was speaking test.The result of the research showed that there was an improvement between pre-test and post-test. The mean score of post-test in accuracy (68.78) was higher than the mean score of pre-test (51.52). Thus, the improvement of students’ accuracy was 33.50%. Moreover, the mean score of post-test in fluency (70.52) was higher than the mean score of pre-test (53.31). Thus, the improvement of students’ fluency was 32.28%. Moreover, based on the data analysis, the t-test value of accuracy was higher than the t-table value (18.55>2.101) and the t-test value of fluency was also higher than t-table (19.55>2.101). It means the Null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Therefore, the researcher concluded that the use of VOA (Voice of America) Learning English can improve students’ speaking skill at tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang.

Abstract

The objective of the research was intended to identify the students’ interest in writing narrative paragraph, their ability in writing narrative paragraph and knowing whether or not there was a correlation between students’ interest and their ability of student’s class XI at MA Al-hidayah Makassar. This research Proposal will find out the correlation between students' motivation in reading fiction story and their ability to writing narrative paragraphs that focuses on students’ motivation in reading fiction story and their ability to writing narrative paragraphs. Special for writing ability, namely writing narrative paragraphs, focused, and concerned with the paragraph content and vocabulary.  The writer will apply pre-experimental method with questioner and writing test, and collect the data based on the test. The sample of the research will choose class XI at MA Al-hidayah Makassar. The sample will take by using purposive sampling technique. The result of the data indicated that the mean score of the students’ motivation in reading fiction story is 75.36 and it is classified as high motivation and the minimum score is 69.00, and the maximum score is 79.00. Next, the mean score students’ writing narrative paragraphs is 72.12 and it is classified as fair category, the minimum score is 61, and the maximum score is 79.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find whether there is significant effect of using Guiding Questions Technique in teaching students to write content of recount text at SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminasa. The method of this research was pre-experimental with one group pre-test and post-test design. The data gathered from pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The result of this research revealed that there was significant effect from students' writings after they applied Guiding Questions Technique to write content of recount text. It was proved from the results of pre-test mean score (48.33) and the post-test mean score was (81.67). Besides, the t-test value (15.418) was higher than the t-table value (1.6991). Based on the data results, it was concluded that Guiding Questions Technique brought significant effect while teaching students to write content of recount text.

Abstract

This research aimed to know did the use of Self-Regulated Learning method improve the students’ accuracy (pronunciation) and fluency (smoothness) at the eleventh grade students of SMAN 5 Barru. The subjects of this research consisted of 33 students at the eleventh MIA 1 grade students of SMAN 5 Barru. The method in this research was quantitative research with pre-experimental research. The instruments used for collecting data namely, Speaking test in oral form. The result of the data indicated that, the students’ mean score of accuracy (pronunciation) post-test was 70.15. While the post-test was higher than mean score of pre-test, the post-test in accuracy (pronunciation) was 79.39. Moreover, based on the data analysis, t-test value was higher than the t-test table values (10.265 > 1.693). It meant that there was a significant difference. Therefore, H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. And the students’ mean score of pre-test in fluency (smoothness) was 71.66. While, the post-test was higher than mean score of pre-test, the post-test in fluency (smoothness) was 81.06. Moreover, based on the data analysis, t-test value was higher than the t-test table values (12.590 > 1.693). It meant that there was a significant difference. Therefore, H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. Those meant that the implementation of Self-Regulated Learning in the teaching and learning process of speaking was believed to be effective to improve the students’ speaking skills especially accuracy (pronunciation) and fluency (smoothness).

Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe the preparation of the lesson plans for English teachers at SMP Negeri 26 Makassar (2) to describe the constraints for English teachers at SMP Negeri 26 Makassar in preparing the lesson plans and their efforts, and (3) describe the suitability of the components of the lesson plans for English teachers in SMP Negeri 26 Makassar. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subject of this study was an English teacher at SMP 26 Makassar consisting of 3 English teachers. The object of this research is the learning implementation plan that has been made by the teacher. Data obtained through interviews and documentation. The data obtained were then analyzed using qualitative data analysis techniques. The results of the data analysis were then concluded according to the research problem.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out the students’ perception of teaching strategies and what kind of teaching strategies Lecturers used in English Speaking course at the third semester of English Department in Muhammadiyah University from three classes. The researcher used a descriptive quantitative research as design method because it was comparable to collect the data from students’ perception and gave questionnaire to collecting the data. The sample of this research was fifth semester grade students of English Department which consist of 47 students from three classes. The sample was taken by used Purposive Sampling Technique. Based on the findings, it was found that students gave positive perception on the lecturers teaching strategies used in teaching English speaking course and most of the lecturers used Active learning teaching strategies, the positive response came from their experience in learning process. The result of the research indicated that based on the likers score analysis there were 43 (91% ) out of the students was categorized positive perception in which score classification is 61-100 and 4 (9%) of the students were in neutral perception, and there were 166 students who say more often towards active learning strategies than other leading strategies It was categorized that lecturers’ teaching strategies used in teaching English speaking course effective to apply, it helps the learning teaching process in the class.

Abstract

Intangible Reward refers to a class of rewards which have no material or monetary value but can keep the employee feeling recognized and motivated (Kharel, 2012). The objective of this research were to describe the types of intangible rewards were given by the teacher in motivating students and to describe the students’ responses to the intangible reward in motivating students. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research was the eight grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 12 makassar. The sample of this research was class A that consisted of 20 students. The researcher also interviewed the teacher to gain more information about the effect of intangible rewards for students. The researcher used observation checklist and interview as instrument of collecting the data. Technique of data analysis consisted of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion /verification. The findings of the research showed that there were two types of rewards used by the teachers motivating students in learning English at the eight grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 12 Makassar. They were; praise/verbal reinforcement and written praise. Verbal praise consisted of good job, i like it, nice, excellent, very good, and written praise consisted of teacher gave grade,mark and positive comment on student’s sheet. The researcher found that intangible rewards gave the positive effects for the students that were; reward created the class more interesting, increased the positive behavior or expected behavior of students in the classroom, made students feel happy and more active participate in class, it can increase the feeling of competition among students in the classroom, and it can encourage the students in completed their task and homework.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to found out whether or not the use of board race language game can improve students’ speaking ability at SMA Negeri 9 Makassar. The researcher used a pre-experimental research as design method and gave pre-test, treatment and post-test. The sample of this research was XI MIA 5 class of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar which consisted of 30 students. The sample was taken by used Purposive Sampling Technique. Based on the result, the mean score of students’ pronunciation and vocabulary before and after the treatment improved. The students’ pronunciation scores from 58.14 to be 84.25 and the students’ vocabulary scores from 57.69 to be 87.29. The differences mean score of pre-test was higher than pre-test. The value of T-test in pronunciation 18.38>2.04 and the value of t-test in vocabulary was 20.57>2.04. The alternative hypothesis is accepted and the null hypothesis is rejected. It means that using of board race games as a teaching technique in teaching speaking can improve students’ speaking ability at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar in term of accuracy.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the improvement of student reading comprehension in narrative text through using Partner Reading Strategy at in the 8th Grade of SMP Unismuh Makassar. This research applied Pre-Experimental Method. The research had conducted with treatment, where the class consisted of four meetings. The location of this research was done at the second Grade students’ of SMP Unismuh Makassar with 24 student, the instrument used pre-test and post-test The findings indicated that the application of Partner Reading Strategy is significant to improve the students reading comprehension and it was proved by means score in pre-test was 49. 72 and the post-test was 81.77. It means that the mean score of post-test is greater than the pre-test, and also it is can be concluded that the use of Partner Reading Strategy improved the students’ reading comprehension especially literal comprehension in term main idea and reorganization in term summary
