Abstract

Organic farming is a cultivation system that prioritizes ecological balance and environmental sustainability by not using synthetic chemicals such as pesticides and artificial fertilizers. In contrast to conventional agriculture which often relies on external inputs to increase production yields, organic agriculture emphasizes the use of natural resources in a natural and sustainable manner. The purpose of this research is to find out the description of organic farming and community empowerment through organic farming activities in terms of economic value or other values. This type of research is Qualitative using Miles Huberman analysis. The results showed that organic farming in Papringan village has been running well with the proof that the types of plants cultivated such as bananas, chilies and longan produce a stable harvest. These crops can have high economic value, but also have good health value. So that this organic farming activity as a form of community empowerment can be a community option to maintain living standards.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the structure and shifts in the economy of the livestock subsector in South Lampung Regency to identify base and prospective commodities, concentrated and distinctive commodities, fast-growing and highly competitive commodities, and those with the highest economic shifts, collectively referred to as leading commodities. The data used are secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics and the Department of Livestock and Animal Health of South Lampung Regency. The commodities analyzed include 12 types of livestock distributed across 17 sub-districts, with a total of 204 observation units. The analytical methods used include Location Quotient (LQ) and Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) to identify base and prospective commodities; Localization Index (LI) and Specialization Index (SI) to assess commodity concentration and distinctiveness; and Shift Share Analysis (SSA) to measure growth, competitiveness, and net shifts. Quadrant classification at each stage was performed using the Klassen Typology. The results indicate that 61 observation units of commodity-subdistricts are classified as base and prospective commodities, and 10 of these also meet the criteria for concentration, distinctiveness, rapid growth, and high competitiveness. The commodity with the highest net shift value is broiler chickens in Tanjung Sari Sub-district, making it a leading commodity in South Lampung’s livestock subsector.

Abstract

Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is a leading commodity in the aquaculture sector with high economic value. To support shrimp farming productivity, the provision of high-quality seed stock must begin with optimal nauplius production techniques. This study aims to examine the nauplius production process of L. vannamei at the CV. Pacific Andre Anton (PAA) hatchery in Situbondo, East Java, covering stages such as media preparation, broodstock management, spawning, egg hatching, and nauplius harvesting. The methods used were observation, interviews, and active participation during the internship program. Observations revealed that natural spawning was conducted using a male-to-female broodstock ratio of 3:1–5:1, with broodstock aged at least 8 months. Over one month of production, a total of 51,418,901 eggs were produced, with a hatching rate of 87% and nauplius yield reaching 44,954,325. Key success factors in nauplius production include broodstock quality, eyestalk ablation technique, strict water quality management, high-nutrition feeding, and the implementation of biosecurity protocols. The findings indicate that the nauplius production techniques applied at CV. PAA meet established standards and can serve as a reference for developing L. vannamei hatchery operations.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the strategies employed by local fishermen in practicing environmentally friendly fishing at Olo Beach, Belawan, North Sumatra. The research is motivated by the declining fish catches, which have raised collective awareness among the fishermen about the need to sustain marine ecosystems. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews with selected fishermen. The findings reveal that fishermen have adopted several adaptive strategies, including limiting the number and size of fish caught, avoiding the use of destructive fishing tools, and maintaining the tradition of mutual cooperation in preparing fishing equipment. These strategies emerged from shared experience and community consensus, without formal government regulation. The results highlight the potential of grassroots initiatives in contributing to marine conservation. Therefore, it is essential for the government and related institutions to support these local practices through education, provision of sustainable fishing technology, and the development of alternative livelihoods for coastal communities.

Abstract

The livestock industry plays a strategic role in providing animal-based food, yet it continues to face challenges related to efficiency and sustainability. Issues such as land limitations, animal diseases, and feed price fluctuations demand innovative production systems. One emerging solution is digital livestock farming, which integrates information and communication technologies into livestock management. This study aims to examine the role of digital livestock farming in improving production efficiency through a literature review of scientific sources published between 2017 and 2024. Literature was gathered from electronic databases and analyzed using a descriptive-qualitative approach with thematic analysis. The findings reveal that technologies such as the Internet of Things, biometric sensors, big data, and artificial intelligence enhance feed efficiency, animal health, reproduction, and labor management. Moreover, these technologies improve animal welfare and reduce environmental impact. However, challenges such as low digital literacy, limited infrastructure, and insufficient policy support hinder implementation, especially in developing countries. This review highlights the need for cross-sector collaboration to support sustainable digital livestock adoption.

Abstract

Talking about the sustainability of life, humans cannot be separated from their dependence on energy needs. Most of the energy sources that we have used so far are fossil energy sources that are non-renewable. With the high dependence of humans on energy, innovation is needed to minimize energy limitations. One form of new renewable energy that can overcome this is Biogas. Biogas is a gas that can be obtained from the fermentation of livestock waste through technology in the form of an airtight tube called a biodigester which is useful in processing livestock waste into biogas energy. Through research that the group conducted using the literature review method, we found one village in Riau that has succeeded in utilizing biodigester technology to make biogas, namely Mukti Sari Village, Tapung District, Kampar Regency, which has now succeeded in becoming an energy independent village.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the nutritional value of fish brain-brain products using milkfish surimi (Chanos chanos.Forskal) as the base ingredient, with variations in fillers such as tapioca flour, egg white, and Eucheuma cottonii seaweed. Three formulations were used: (F1) surimi + tapioca starch, (F2) surimi + egg white, and (F3) surimi + Euchema cottonii seaweed. Proximate analyses were conducted to determine the moisture, protein, fat, ash, and carbohydrate content. The results showed that the addition of various fillers had a significant effect (P>0.05) on the value of protein, carbohydrate and water in the brain. While for fat and ash content, there was no significant effect (P<0.05). The average water content ranged from 66.5% to 72%, with the lowest content in the brain-brain added with tapioca flour. The highest protein content was obtained in the P2 treatment (egg white), which was 18.9%, while the treatment with the addition of tapioca flour showed the lowest protein content of 12.8%. Sensory value using Kruskal waliss treatment that gets a high average value is the aroma, taste, and texture of the addition of egg white fillers, while the texture is with the addition of Euschema cottonii seaweed fillers. Egg white significantly increased the protein content. The best formulation based on nutritional content and panellists' liking value was F2 (Surimi + Egg white). This study shows the potential for the development of milkfish-based processed products that are highly nutritious and functional..
