Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of environmental temperature on feed intake and performance in broiler chickens. The study was conducted using 200 Cobb 500 broiler chickens divided into four temperature treatment groups: P1 (gradual temperature decrease from 32-34°C to 20-24°C), P2 (stable temperature at 28-30°C), P3 (natural temperature fluctuations), and P0 (control). The parameters measured included feed intake, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of broiler chickens. The results showed that temperature significantly affected (p<0.05) feed intake, weight gain, and FCR. The conclusion of this study is the importance of stable broiler house temperature management to optimize broiler chicken productivity. This study recommends the application of climate control technology and feed formula adjustments as thermal stress mitigation strategies, particularly in tropical regions with high daily temperature variations.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of broiler concentrate-based rations combined with corn and rice bran on the performance of native chickens. A total of four dietary treatments were formulated, namely P1 (100% broiler concentrate), P2 (75% broiler concentrate, 10% corn, 15% rice bran), P3 (50% broiler concentrate, 30% corn, 20% rice bran), and P4 (25% broiler concentrate, 55% corn, 20% rice bran). The parameters observed included feed intake, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio (FCR). Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and significant differences among treatments were further tested with Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that dietary treatments significantly affected the growth performance of native chickens (P<0.05). Chickens fed diets with higher proportions of broiler concentrate (P1 and P2) exhibited better body weight gain and more efficient feed conversion compared to those receiving lower concentrate levels (P3 and P4). In contrast, increasing corn and rice bran levels tended to increase feed intake but did not proportionally improve body weight gain, resulting in poorer FCR. It can be concluded that native chickens perform optimally when fed rations containing at least 75% broiler concentrate, which provides a balance between growth and feed efficiency.

Abstract

Field Work Practice (PKL) at Tambak Mina Bangkit Bersama (MIBAMA), Karangrejo, Banyuwangi, was conducted from June 26 to August 3, 2024, with the aim of understanding the process of growing Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp in HDPE ponds. Vaname shrimp farming involves pond preparation, seedling stocking, feed management, and water quality monitoring to optimize shrimp growth. Growth monitoring was carried out through sampling, resulting in an Average Daily Growth (ADG) value ranging from 0.41 to 0.71 grams per day. Water quality measurements showed that temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen levels were still within safe ranges, although several parameters such as salinity, TDS, and ORP required special attention. Partial and total harvesting resulted in an accumulated production of 5.1 tons in this cycle. The use of HDPE ponds proved effective in maintaining the aquaculture environment and supporting production intensification. This study emphasizes the importance of proper water and feed quality management to enhance shrimp productivity and health, while also providing recommendations for continuous monitoring to address stress factors in shrimp during cultivation.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the ecological and socio-economic aspects of mangrove utilization in Nasem Village, Merauke Regency, Papua Selatan. The ecological assessment included mangrove species composition, regeneration potential, health status, and Importance Value Index (INP). Socio-economic data were collected through questionnaires and focus group discussions with 30 respondents. The results showed that  Avicennia marina  had good regeneration potential and dominated the community with the highest INP (1.13), while  Avicennia alba  was categorized as new regeneration with a low INP (0.31). The health status of both species was classified as rare/damaged according to national standards, indicating the need for restoration. From a socio-economic perspective, 90% of respondents utilized mangroves for firewood and fisheries, and 95% stated that mangroves significantly contributed to household income, although 83% earned less than IDR 1,000,000 per month. Most respondents (85%) recognized the ecological functions of mangroves, but anthropogenic pressures such as sand mining remained major threats. These findings highlight the urgent need for community-based mangrove management that integrates ecological restoration with sustainable economic development. The study provides scientific evidence to support policy recommendations for sustainable coastal zone management in Merauke.

Abstract

Cake is a wheat flour-based food product that is popular because of its sweet taste, soft texture, and attractive appearance. This study aims to evaluate the effect of purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) paste substitution on the sensory, chemical, and physical quality of chocolate cake decorated with character pudding. The study was conducted in May–August 2025 at the Makassar Health Laboratory Center and the Chemistry Laboratory of the Pangkep State Agricultural Polytechnic. The study design used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments of purple sweet potato paste concentration (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%) and two replications. The parameters analyzed included sensory tests (color, aroma, taste, texture, and overall), chemical tests (antioxidant activity, water content, protein, fat, ash, and carbohydrate), and physical tests (expandability and crumb morphology). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan's further test for parameters with significant differences. The results showed that the addition of purple sweet potato paste had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on sensory and chemical characteristics. Treatment A4 (40% purple sweet potato paste) obtained the highest score in the hedonic test with an average panelist preference level of 4 (like). The best chemical characteristics were also obtained in A4, namely antioxidant content of 25.6%, water content of 32.97%, protein 3.52%, fat 17.19%, ash 1.34%, and carbohydrate 45.05%. Physically, the rise power was not significantly different between treatments, but the crumb morphology showed pore irregularities at high concentrations.
