Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a global health issue that significantly contributes to morbidity and mortality. The DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) has been recommended as a dietary approach to lower blood pressure, but findings across studies remain varied. Therefore, a meta-analysis was conducted to synthesize the existing evidence on the effectiveness of the DASH diet for blood pressure reduction in hypertensive patients. Objective: To systematically and quantitatively assess the effect of the DASH diet on lowering blood pressure in individuals with hypertension. Methods: This meta-analysis employed a random-effects model using Standardized Mean Difference (SMD) as the effect size. Data were extracted from six studies that met the inclusion criteria. OpenMEE software was used to calculate the pooled effect estimate and inter-study heterogeneity. Results: The findings showed that the DASH diet significantly reduced blood pressure, with an SMD of -1.219 (95% CI: -1.918 to -0.519; p < 0.001). Substantial heterogeneity was found across the included studies (I² = 88.24%; p < 0.001), indicating variations in population characteristics and study methodologies. Conclusion: The DASH diet is effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients and can be considered a key component of non-pharmacological intervention strategies. Despite the presence of heterogeneity, the consistent direction of effect supports its broader implementation with individual adaptations.

Abstract

Malnutrition in older adults was recognized as a common health problem associated with increased morbidity, mortality, physical decline, and reduced quality of life. This condition was influenced by various factors, particularly geriatric anorexia and polypharmacy, which were frequently found among the elderly population. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors of malnutrition in older adults with a focus on anorexia and polypharmacy using a PRISMA-based systematic literature review method. Articles were collected from Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and NCBI databases published between 2020-2026. A total of 20 national and international articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed descriptively and thematically. The findings showed that geriatric anorexia became a dominant factor contributing to inadequate energy and protein intake due to decreased appetite, chewing difficulties, tooth loss, xerostomia, and early satiety. Polypharmacy also contributed to malnutrition through medication side effects such as nausea, taste disturbances, and appetite loss. Other contributing factors included depression, chronic diseases, physical limitations, and socioeconomic conditions that worsened the nutritional status of older adults. Management of malnutrition in the elderly required a multidisciplinary approach through routine nutritional screening, medication monitoring, nutrition education, and family support to improve the quality of life of older adults.

Abstract

Batik tulis is one of Indonesia’s cultural heritages with high artistic and philosophical value, whose production process still relies heavily on manual activities using a traditional tool called canting. The batik-making process involves repetitive hand movements and prolonged working duration, which may increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). This study aimed to determine the relationship between working period and the incidence of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome among handwritten batik artisans in Giriloyo Batik Village, Imogiri, Bantul, and to describe the characteristics of working period and CTS incidence among the workers. This study employed a descriptive analytic quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The research was conducted from July to August 2024 and involved 39 respondents selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected using respondent identity questionnaires and the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) to assess CTS symptoms. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses using the chi-square test. The results showed that most respondents were female (97.3%), aged 40–60 years (64.1%), and worked less than 8 hours per day (66.7%). Most respondents with a working period of ≥4 years experienced CTS complaints (69.2%). Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between working period and CTS incidence (p=0.028; p<0.05). The intensity of CTS symptoms also tended to increase with longer working periods. These findings highlight the importance of preventive efforts through ergonomic improvements and reducing exposure to repetitive movements among batik artisans.

Abstract

Fever in children is an increase in body temperature caused by infection that requires appropriate management to prevent complications. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be used is an Aloe vera compress. This literature review aimed to determine the effectiveness of Aloe vera compress therapy in reducing body temperature in children with fever. The method used was a literature review conducted through article searches in the Google Scholar, PubMed, Garuda, and SINTA databases published between 2021 and 2026. Of the 80 articles identified, 10 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. The review results showed that Aloe vera compress therapy was effective in helping reduce children’s body temperature, with temperature reductions ranging from 0.1°C to 2.5°C. The effectiveness was influenced by the child’s condition, the cause of fever, the duration of the intervention, and the area of compress application. The mechanism of Aloe vera compress therapy works through its cooling effect, high water content, and conduction process that facilitates heat transfer from the body. In addition to reducing body temperature, this therapy also improved children’s comfort during fever. Therefore, Aloe vera compress therapy can be used as a safe, natural, and easily applicable supportive non-pharmacological intervention in the management of fever in children.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is an important intervention to improve infant health status, growth, and development. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers remains suboptimal. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers in the Simpang Babat Public Health Center working area, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI) Regency. This study employed an analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach conducted from February to June 2026. The study population consisted of 133 working mothers with infants aged 0–12 months, and a sample of 100 respondents was selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that 55% of respondents did not practice exclusive breastfeeding. Bivariate analysis revealed that family economic status (p=0.001), maternal psychological condition (p=0.004), husband's support (p<0.001), workplace facilities support (p<0.001), and maternal knowledge (p=0.028) were significantly associated with exclusive breastfeeding. Multivariate analysis indicated that family economic status was the most dominant factor associated with exclusive breastfeeding (OR=15.866; 95% CI=3.618–69.582). In conclusion, exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers was associated with family economic status, maternal psychological condition, husband's support, workplace facilities support, and maternal knowledge. These findings highlight the need to strengthen breastfeeding education, increase husband involvement, and provide adequate lactation facilities in the workplace to support exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers.

Abstract

Postoperative pain is one of the most common complaints experienced by patients following surgical procedures performed under general anesthesia. Inadequate pain management may delay the recovery process, increase patient discomfort, and contribute to various physiological complications. One complementary therapy with potential analgesic benefits is Sujok therapy, a reflex point stimulation technique applied to the hands and feet that is believed to activate the body's natural pain-relief mechanisms. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Sujok therapy on pain intensity among post-general anesthesia patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospital. A quasi-experimental two-group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 30 respondents, who were allocated into intervention and control groups. Pain intensity was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and the Mann–Whitney U Test. The results showed that the mean pain score in the intervention group decreased from 5.87 ± 1.19 to 2.93 ± 1.03 (p = 0.001), whereas the control group showed a reduction from 5.73 ± 1.03 to 4.93 ± 1.03 (p = 0.042). The Mann–Whitney U Test revealed a significant difference in pain reduction between the two groups (p = 0.000). These findings indicate that Sujok therapy is effective in reducing pain among post-general anesthesia patients and has the potential to serve as a safe, simple, and easily applicable complementary intervention in perioperative nursing practice.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that can cause complications, one of which is diabetic ulcer, a wound that is difficult to heal due to increased oxidative stress. The use of natural ingredients such as cinnamon bark (Cinnamomi burmannii cortex), which is rich in flavonoids and phenolic compounds, has the potential to be an alternative supportive therapy due to its antioxidant activity. This research seeks to identify overall flavonoid levels and antioxidant properties within cinnamon bark active fractions while assessing its effectiveness for healing diabetic ulcers. The investigation involved laboratory experiments utilizing specific extraction techniques. Primary processing employed the maceration approach using 70% ethanol solvent, which was subsequently followed by a secondary liquid-liquid separation procedure to isolate desired chemical compounds. Total flavonoid amounts underwent analysis through AlCl3 colorimetry with UV-Vis spectrophotometry, while free radical scavenging capacity was evaluated employing DPPH methods and documented as IC50 values. The study revealed the ethyl acetate fraction contained peak flavonoid percentages (0.8637%) and exhibited the most effective antioxidant strength IC50 12.2716 ppm). These data imply that ethyl acetate extracts from cinnamon bark offer substantial viability for development as supplementary medicinal agents for diabetic ulcer care by effectively neutralizing oxidative damage during healing.
