Abstract

Microplastics are extremely small plastic particles that have become a major concern in public health and environmental studies. This literature review aims to discuss the sources of microplastics, their routes of exposure to the human body, their distribution in organs, and their potential health impacts. The method used was a literature review of scientific articles and reports published from 2021 onward, retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and official websites of organizations such as the WHO, OECD, and the World Bank. The review findings show that microplastics originate from plastic waste, synthetic clothing, cosmetics, vehicle tires, and food packaging. These particles have been detected in blood, lungs, the placenta, feces, and various human tissues, indicating that human exposure is widespread. However, evidence from human studies is still limited, so cause-and-effect relationships cannot yet be confirmed with certainty. Based on these findings, further research is needed to better understand the long-term health effects of microplastics. In addition, efforts to reduce single-use plastics, improve waste management systems, and increase public education are essential to reduce exposure and prevent future health risks.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-compassion and self-objectification among female TikTok users in Jambi City. The study used a quantitative correlational approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 218 female students in Jambi City aged 18–25 years who actively use TikTok were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) adapted into Indonesian (Skala Welas Diri) and the Objectified Body Consciousness Scale (OBCS). Data analysis used the Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The results showed a significant negative relationship between self-compassion and self-objectification (r = -0.216; p = 0.001). The higher the self-compassion, the lower the tendency for self-objectification. The majority of respondents had moderate to high levels of self-compassion, while self-objectification was in the moderate category. The duration of TikTok use of more than 2 hours per day was associated with a higher tendency for self-objectification. These findings confirm the role of self-compassion as a protective factor against self-objectification in the context of visual-based social media use.

Abstract

Muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) is an aggressive malignancy associated with high morbidity, reduced survival, and impaired quality of life. Radiotherapy (RT) has been widely used as a bladder-preserving strategy, particularly for patients unsuitable for surgery or systemic chemotherapy. RT may also enhance tumor immunogenicity through programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) upregulation, providing a rationale for combination therapy with immunotherapy. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of combining immunotherapy and radiotherapy in MIBC treatment. A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines using the PICO framework. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, ClinicalTrials.gov, Web of Science, and Scopus databases for studies published between 2016 and 2025. Risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool and ROBINS-I. Of 105 identified studies, five met the inclusion criteria and were included in the final analysis. Only one Phase II randomized controlled trial demonstrated low risk of bias in randomization and allocation concealment. ROBINS-I assessment indicated moderate to serious risk in confounding and participant selection domains. Clinical findings showed promising outcomes, with complete response rates ranging from 35%–50% and partial response rates from 25%–40%. Median overall survival ranged from 24–30 months, with favorable disease-free and progression-free survival outcomes. Combined immunotherapy and radiotherapy demonstrate potential to improve survival and disease control in MIBC; however, further rigorous clinical studies are needed to optimize patient-centered treatment strategies.

Abstract

Breast cancer remains a major global health challenge, with treatment effectiveness often limited by drug resistance and the toxic side effects of chemotherapy on normal cells. The exploration of bioactive compounds from natural sources through a medicinal chemistry approach offers a promising alternative strategy. This study aims to examine the molecular mechanisms of action and Structure-Activity Relationships (SAR) of various natural compound scaffolds as potential breast anticancer agents. The method employed was a systematic narrative literature review of 15 recent scientific articles evaluating computational parameters, including molecular docking, as well as in vitro and in vivo activities. The results indicate that polyphenols, flavonoids such as quercetin and EGCG, and curcumin possess strong cytotoxic activity and high binding affinity toward cancer-related target macromolecules. SAR analysis demonstrates that key structural features, including the number and position of free phenolic hydroxyl groups, the presence of gallate ester groups, and conjugated diketone systems, play a crucial role in determining ligand receptor complex stability. These interactions are supported by hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interactions, and favorable steric compatibility within receptor binding sites. Computational findings further suggest that structural optimization can enhance ligand selectivity and improve pharmacokinetic properties. This study concludes that natural phytochemical scaffolds have significant potential as lead compounds and provide a rational basis for Computer-Aided Drug Design in developing more potent, selective, multi-target, and safer breast anticancer therapies.

Abstract

Nutritional problems among adolescents are increasingly associated with unhealthy dietary habits and low physical activity, contributing to the rising prevalence of overweight. According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey, overweight prevalence among adolescents ranges from 12% to 16.2%. This study aimed to develop Zea Coffee Tab, a functional beverage made from Robusta coffee and corn silk containing bioactive compounds, including caffeine and flavonoids, which may support metabolism and body fat oxidation. An experimental method with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed. The evaluated parameters included organoleptic tests (hedonic and hedonic quality) involving 30 semi-trained panelists, proximate analysis, and identification of bioactive compounds. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal–Wallis, Mann–Whitney, One-Way ANOVA, and Duncan’s multiple range tests. Three formulations were tested: F1 (30% Robusta coffee:70% corn silk), F2 (50%:50%), and F3 (70%:30%). The findings showed that F3 was the most preferred formulation, with an acceptance score categorized as “very much liked.” The product contained energy ranging from 319.20–324.26 kcal/100 g, protein 5.12–5.34%, fat 0.48–0.58%, carbohydrates 73.85–74.51%, moisture 9.12–9.66%, ash 2.10–2.32%, caffeine 182.45–205.86 mg/100 g, and flavonoids 4.28–6.03 mg/100 g. Zea Coffee Tab has the potential to serve as a healthy functional beverage for overweight adolescents. Further studies on shelf life and clinical effectiveness are recommended to support product commercialization.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood, typically characterized by puberty between the ages of 12 and 14 years, accompanied by physical, social, and emotional changes. In adolescent girls, reproductive maturation is marked by the onset of menstruation as an early indicator of maturity, which is often accompanied by menstrual disorders such as dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea, or menstrual pain, is a common condition among adolescent girls and may interfere with academic activities and overall quality of life. Inadequate knowledge and inappropriate attitudes toward its management often lead adolescents to neglect symptoms or adopt suboptimal pain management strategies. This study aims to examine the effect of health education on female students’ knowledge and attitudes regarding dysmenorrhea management at SMP Negeri (State Junior High School) 1 Mlati. A pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The study population consisted of all eighth-grade female students, with a sample of 66 participants selected through purposive sampling based on the inclusion criteria of having experienced menarche and being willing to participate throughout the study. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon nonparametric statistical test to assess differences before and after the health education intervention. The results of the Wilcoxon test demonstrated a significant improvement in both knowledge (p = 0.000) and attitudes (p = 0.002) following the intervention. It can be concluded that health education has a significant effect on improving female students’ knowledge and attitudes toward dysmenorrhea management. Future researchers are encouraged to develop more innovative educational media by utilizing social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok to enhance the effectiveness and attractiveness of educational interventions.

Abstract

Junk food is generally high in calories, sugar, salt, and fat but low in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Excessive junk food consumption among adolescents is a risk factor for the increasing incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular disease. Adolescence is a crucial period in the formation of eating habits that will influence health status in adulthood. Lifestyle changes, technological developments, and exposure to fast food advertisements on social media also influence adolescents' consumption behavior. This study aims to determine the relationship between junk food consumption patterns and risk behaviors for non-communicable diseases among students at Alfarabi Integrated Junior High School. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was conducted on May 23, 2026, by distributing questionnaires directly to 34 ninth-grade students after receiving education about junk food and its impact on health. The results showed that 38.2% of respondents consumed junk food 1–2 times per week, 38.2% consumed it 3–5 times per week, and 23.5% consumed junk food every day. The most commonly consumed types of junk food were fast food (41.2%), instant noodles (32.4%), and sugary drinks (17.6%). Most respondents (70.6%) only exercised occasionally. Frequent health complaints included fatigue, acne, and weight gain. This study shows that high junk food consumption combined with low physical activity can be a risky behavior that contributes to increased risk factors for non-communicable diseases in adolescents. Therefore, education and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits from school age are necessary.

Abstract

Nutritional problems among adolescents remain a public health concern in Indonesia due to their association with an increased risk of non-communicable diseases later in life. Changes in dietary patterns characterized by increased consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs), unhealthy eating behaviors, and inadequate nutritional knowledge are considered important factors influencing adolescents' nutritional status. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional knowledge, eating behavior, and ultra-processed food intake with the nutritional status of students at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya. This study employed an analytical observational design with a crosssectional approach. Participants were selected using proportional random sampling. Nutritional knowledge was assessed using a nutrition knowledge questionnaire, eating behavior was measured using the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ), and ultra-processed food intake was collected using a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ). Nutritional status was determined using Body Mass Index-for-Age (BMI-for-Age). Data were analyzed using the ChiSquare test with a significance level of α=0.05. The results showed no significant association between nutritional knowledge and nutritional status (p=0.113), external eating and nutritional status (p=0.142), energy intake from UPFs and nutritional status (p=0.365), or fat intake from UPFs and nutritional status (p=0.087). However, significant associations were found between emotional eating and nutritional status (p=0.023), as well as restrained eating and nutritional status (p=0.012). This study concludes that eating behavior dimensions, particularly emotional eating and restrained eating, are associated with the nutritional status of students at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya. Therefore, efforts to promote healthy eating behaviors and improve self-regulation in managing dietary habits among adolescents are needed.
