Abstract

The development of modern dance in Semarang City has spurred the emergence of various dance communities, each possessing distinct characteristics and visual identities. One community with a strong signature style is Rowdra Dance Class, which consistently blends modern and traditional elements in its costume designs. This study aims to describe the distinctive features of the modern costumes used by Rowdra Dance Class as the community's visual identity. A qualitative method with a descriptive approach was employed. Data collection involved in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, with informants comprising the owner and dancers of Rowdra Dance Class. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the signature style of Rowdra Dance Class costumes lies in the fusion of modern and traditional elements, the use of bold and diverse colors, the incorporation of Indonesian ethnic motifs and accessories, and an aesthetic that is unique, luxurious, and distinctive. The consistent application of this costume concept makes Rowdra’s outfits easily recognizable and serves as a visual identity for the dance community. This study implies that costumes serve not merely as performance accessories but also as a medium for representing identity, character, and cultural values within the performing arts community

Abstract

The Slangit Style Klana Mask Dance in Cirebon Regency faces the threat of marginalization due to globalization and the lack of a successor generation. This study aims to analyze the role of the Primatari Training Course Institute (LKP) in maintaining and enhancing the existence of this traditional art. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with managers, trainers, and students, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that LKP Primatari has succeeded in maintaining sustainable dance through a beginner-friendly Slangit Style-based curriculum, ensuring the quality of the standard through the recruitment of internal trainers from senior alumni, and packaging routine training into periodic art performances in public spaces promoted through social media. A quarterly partnership relationship with the government and collaboration with the private sector also strengthen the appreciation of art spaces. Despite facing obstacles such as student saturation and still-organic innovation, this community-based management has proven effective in maintaining the existence of the dance. The implication is that an adaptive, non-formal training management model based on strategic partnerships can be an effective reference in preserving local cultural heritage in the modern era.

Abstract

Clean water is a fundamental necessity with increasingly limited availability due to unwise household consumption. Although research on water crises is extensive, engaging educational visual communication media to build public awareness remains scarce. This research aims to design informative visual communication media in the form of Instagram posters as a tool for water conservation education among teenagers. The method employed is qualitative descriptive, adapting Robin Landa's "Design Method," which encompasses five stages from orientation to implementation. Data were collected through questionnaires with 24 Generation Z respondents in Jabodetabek, observations, and literature reviews, analyzed using SWOT and the 5A Funnel. Research findings reveal that while 58.3% of respondents understand the concept of water efficiency, 62.5% are not yet consistent in daily application. In response, the “Cermat Pakai Air” campaign was designed, consisting of 14 infographic posters. The results demonstrate that contemporary visual design approaches are effective in increasing awareness and interest in water-saving actions among the target audience. Theoretically, this research implies that harmonious visual elements can bridge environmental information gaps for Generation Z. Practically, this campaign strategy can be adopted by relevant institutions to encourage behavioral changes in maintaining water security through social media platforms.

Abstract

Music education requires literacy in reading staff notation, yet many piano students struggle to master it, particularly in non-formal institutions such as Gittith Music School Boja, which has not fully implemented notation-based learning standards. This study aims to analyze teachers’ strategies in overcoming students’ difficulties in reading staff notation during piano lessons at the institution. A descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving one piano teacher and several students. The findings show that students’ difficulties include note and finger-position reading, chromatic sign recognition, staccato and legato technique, and playing in fast tempo. The teacher addressed these difficulties through a combination of the drill method, gradual method, demonstration method, and individualized guidance tailored to each student’s ability. These strategies reflect the application of behaviorism theory through repeated practice and constructivism theory through gradual, experience-based learning. The findings imply the importance of a flexible, student-centered combination of teaching methods in non-formal music education to improve the effectiveness of learning staff notation reading.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the visual aesthetics and symbolic meaning in the paintings of Bejo Prichatianto, an artist from Batang Regency. The study is motivated by the fact that paintings not only possess visual beauty but also contain symbols and messages that represent personal experiences, cultural values, and the social life of the community. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method using aesthetic and semiotic approaches. The aesthetic analysis was based on A.A.M. Djelantik’s theory, which explains that aesthetic value consists of form, content, and presentation, while the semiotic analysis referred to Charles Sanders Peirce’s theory of signs and symbolic meaning. Data were collected through interviews, documentation, and literature review of Bejo Prichatianto’s artworks. The findings indicate that Bejo Prichatianto’s paintings exhibit distinctive aesthetic characteristics reflected in the harmonious use of color, composition, texture, and visual forms. Furthermore, the symbols embedded in the paintings convey meanings related to community life, local cultural values, and the artist’s emotional expression. Therefore, Bejo Prichatianto’s paintings represent an artistic expression of personal experiences, local culture, and social realities manifested through visual aesthetics and symbols with profound meanings.

Abstract

Digital Imaging has shifted commercial photography from a recording practice to a controlled process of constructing persuasive visual realities. This study analyzes hyperbolic and surreal aesthetics in the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE campaign produced by Studio Tandaseru and explains how three-dimensional environments, photography, and digital compositing translate product claims into visual experience. A descriptive qualitative approach with a single-case-study design was applied to four publicly available visual artifacts consisting of two three-dimensional clay renders and two final composites. The artifacts were examined through Feldman’s stages of description, formal analysis, interpretation, and evaluation, supported by cross-artifact comparison and relevant visual-media literature. The findings show that Digital Imaging operates through three connected layers: virtual-space construction, photographic and CGI integration, and communicative signification. Hyperbole appears through scale emphasis, idealized lighting, controlled space, and impossible spatial events, while surrealism emerges from the seamless coexistence of physical subjects and synthetic elements. These operations form synthetic realism that converts abstract claims about performance and artificial intelligence into accessible, emotionally persuasive scenes. The study positions Digital Imaging as a strategic visual-communication method rather than a post-production technique and offers an analytical framework for evaluating contemporary commercial imagery.

Abstract

The development of information technology encourages Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to adapt to digital marketing, one of which is through the utilization of Instagram. Although this platform has great potential in accelerating product reach, many MSMEs have not optimized it in an integrated manner in terms of content management and Instagram social media production. This research is motivated by the problems faced by Surya Jaya, an MSME in Demak, which experienced marketing stagnation due to the use of promotional media that lacked layout redesign. An evaluation of the partner's Instagram account revealed a low engagement rate, the absence of communicative content pillars, as well as a monotonous brand visual character that lacked a consistent layout design. Therefore, this research aims to design an Instagram social media management strategy that can support the promotion of the Surya Jaya MSME. The focus of the improvement includes redesigning the visual interface layout on Surya Jaya's Instagram account. The results of this research are expected to provide effective digital marketing management guidelines, produce significant promotional and sales designs, and be able to improve the brand image and expand the sales reach of the Surya Jaya MSME.

Abstract

Cinematic quality is a phrase that follows Red Dead Redemption 2 almost everywhere, yet the visual machinery behind that impression is rarely taken apart. This study probes the part played by lighting and color palettes in shaping the cinematic atmosphere of Rockstar Games' open-world title. The approach is qualitative and descriptive-analytical: three regions with sharply opposed moods, namely The Heartlands, Bayou Nwa, and Colter, were explored firsthand across different in-game hours and weather, then recorded as screenshots. The reading attends to light strength and direction, color temperature, contrast, saturation, and dominant hue, interpreted through color psychology and cinematographic lighting craft. Each region, it turns out, rests its mood on a different light-and-color configuration. Golden-hour warmth leaves The Heartlands open and nostalgic; washed-out greens, fog, and flattened contrast make Bayou Nwa oppressive and menacing; a near-monochrome palette under cold light renders Colter a portrait of isolation and survival. These configurations act less as ornament than as instruments of environmental storytelling, steering how players feel about the spaces they move through.

Abstract

Film posters serve as visual communication media that establish a film's identity while conveying meaning through visual elements. This study aims to analyze the visual development of the Ant-Man trilogy posters, consisting of Ant-Man (2015), Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018), and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with documentation as the data collection technique using the official posters of the Ant-Man trilogy. The analysis focused on three visual elements, namely composition, visual hierarchy, and color, which were interpreted through the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings indicate that the Ant-Man trilogy posters demonstrate a visual development that reflects changes in visual communication strategies and the construction of meaning across each film. This development is reflected in increasingly complex compositions, the evolution of visual hierarchy from a single focal point to a layered structure, and the use of color that adapts to the progression of the narrative. From a semiotic perspective, these changes represent a shift in meaning from individual heroism to collaboration and ultimately to collective heroism in confronting increasingly complex conflicts. These findings suggest that the visual development of the posters not only follows the progression of the film narrative but also functions as a visual communication strategy for constructing identity and meaning throughout the Ant-Man trilogy.
