Abstract

Governments in wealthier countries have taken an increasing interest in mental health in recent years, conscious of its impact on quality of life and the economic consequences of poor mental health. In Africa, however, mental health is still not given the attention and resources it needs, with the majority of the focus being on communicable disorders. This review of the literature looks at the economic effects of mental health in African countries, exploring the difficulties they face and how economic data can be used to push for more investment in mental health. It examines the available information, identifies any gaps in the evidence, and examines how mental health services are provided.  In high-income countries, NGOs have been demonstrated to be a significant factor in the financing, organization, and supply of mental health services, which is of great importance. In African countries, where mental health policy and infrastructure are more limited, NGOs have an even more essential part to play in removing obstacles to the establishment of mental health policy and practice.

Abstract

Social interactions in the workplace play a pivotal role in shaping the work culture and influencing organizational productivity and success. Particularly, the relationship between superiors and subordinates holds the potential for creating hegemonic behaviors, where superiors utilize their experience and knowledge to influence subordinates. This research aims to delve deeper into the processes, forms, levels, and impacts of hegemonic behaviors within the work culture of employees at the Department X in Kediri District, with a focus on the positive perspective of Antonio Gramsci's theory. This study adopts a qualitative approach and a case study research design. Information is obtained from two informants, a superior and a subordinate, through interviews and observations. Data is analyzed through method triangulation, involving raw data collection, data reduction, data interpretation, data analysis, and drawing conclusions. The research findings indicate that hegemonic behavior evolves through the demonstration of intellectual and moral leadership by superiors, subsequently gaining the approval of subordinates regarding the dominance of superiors. Forms of hegemonic behavior encompass aspects of intellectual and moral leadership, approval, and domination. The identified level of hegemony suggests a "declining hegemony." The impact of hegemonic behavior includes positive changes in work processes, ethics, communication, and power utilization. This study reinforces the understanding of the dynamics of relationships between superiors and subordinates in the workplace and their implications for work culture. It also provides a foundation for improving the work environment and fostering more harmonious inter-employee relationships.

Abstract

Children with HIV/AIDS (ADHA) tend to be affected by social discrimination from the environment in which they live. The social discrimination experienced is always repeated. This is because ADHA are often ostracized, often receive negative stigma, and are often neglected. This social discrimination makes ADHA feel easily stressed. Therefore, efforts are needed to overcome the stress problems experienced by ADHA. Efforts that can be made include using the story telling method and role playing. The novelty of this research lies in the use of story telling and role play methods in an integrated manner. This research aims to determine the extent to which story telling and role playing treatment can reduce stress in HIV/AIDS children in Tulungagung Regency. The research design used is a Mix Method Explanatory Sequential Design approach, with two sequential or interactive sequential phases. The first stage carried out quantitative data collection and analysis as a priority to answer research questions. The next stage of qualitative data collection is carried out following the previous phase. The subjects of this research were children with HIV/AIDS who experienced stress and entered the concrete operational and formal operational cognitive development phase (7 to 17 years) with a sample of 15 children. The measuring tool used is the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaire with 10 question items (PSS-10) and 2x story telling therapy. The research results obtained show that t count is 6.6647 > t table 2.145 so that providing treatment to children with HIV/Aids using a combination of story telling and role play can reduce stress levels significantly.

Abstract

The problems of pro-social behavior among individuals have been in existence from the recorded history. Studies that have investigated pro-social behavior have used different predictors and populations with varied results. Therefore, this study investigated academic stress and resilience as predictors of pro-social behavior among first year undergraduates of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. The study adopted cross-sectional survey design while convenience sampling technique was used to collect data from 219 participants using the Pro-social Behavior Scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory and Resilience Scale. Data collected were analyzed using multiple regressions to test three hypotheses which were accepted at a p < .05 level of significance. The result showed that academic stress and resilience jointly predicted pro-social behavior among study participants [R2 =.10, F (2,216) =11.88, p < .05]. In addition, academic stress (β= -.26, p < .05) independently predicted pro-social behavior while resilience did not independently predict pro-social behavior among study participants (β = .12, p > .05). The study concluded that academic stress is a strong predictor of pro-social behavior among study participants. It is recommended that university management and other stakeholders should organize regular seminars on stress reduction techniques that would encourage activities that would lead to pro-social behavior among undergraduates.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the forms, processes, and contributing factors of psychospiritual resilience among students from broken home backgrounds in the Tasawuf and Psychotherapy Program at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. This research employed a qualitative research approach with a phenomenological design. The participants consisted of 10 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that students’ psychospiritual resilience is developed through emotional regulation, self-control, optimism, and consistent spiritual practices such as dzikir, prayer, and self-reflection. Social support from peers, the campus environment, and religious communities plays a significant role in strengthening students’ resilience. The integration of Tazkiyah al-Nafs and Salutogenesis theories indicates that psychospiritual resilience functions not only as an adaptive coping mechanism but also as a transformative process that fosters psychological balance and spiritual growth among students from broken home families.
