Abstract

Mascots play an important role as a promotional tool as well as a visual representation that reflects the museum's identity as a whole, including the cultural values, history, and communities involved. This study aims to design a socio-cultural symbol that can be realized in the form of a mascot for the Nusantara Keris Museum through the design thinking design method from David Kelley. This mascot is designed to represent the socio-cultural elements of Surakarta City, including the friendly character of the community and other local wisdom, such as physical relics in the form of artifacts, historical buildings, and cultural areas. In addition, mascots can also reflect intangible heritage, such as traditional music, dance, and various religious rituals and traditions (Purnomo et al., 2023). These elements can be evaluated in depth to ensure that the resulting mascot can function as an appropriate symbol and represent the socio-cultural wealth of Surakarta.

Abstract

Understanding reading aims to obtain information from sources of knowledge conveyed through writing. Understanding is the most important component in reading activities with the aim of obtaining clear information from what is read. Understanding a story can be done by reading books or listening to stories either orally or through media. To obtain good understanding, it is necessary to train linguistic intelligence, because understanding the contents of the story is related to linguistic intelligence. Good linguistic intelligence is defined as the ability to recognize, know, understand the meaning of a word, and express it orally or in writing. From the results of observations of the linguistic intelligence of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar, they differ from each other. This means that there are various understandings of children in understanding the contents of fictional stories, such as students who can already accept and there are also students who cannot accept learning. Understanding the contents of the story, apart from being influenced by word mastery, can also be influenced by the media used by the teacher. Therefore, the use of interesting media can increase students' interest in listening, reading, speaking, and writing a story even with a long plot. To be able to determine a person's linguistic intelligence, one can find out the mastery of words that can be known from four aspects, namely: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Linguistic intelligence in understanding the contents of fictional stories if taught with the right and interesting media will also increase. Therefore, to improve linguistic intelligence, researchers choose audio-visual media.

Abstract

This article examines threats to press freedom as a vital space for expressing public opinion and as a foundational pillar of democracy, alongside the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. It approaches the issue of threats to press freedom through Gramsci’s concept of hegemony, wherein the ruling class’s dominance indirectly influences and controls the press by shaping acceptable cultural values and ideologies. However, the state at times also employs coercive elements through its institutional role, thereby posing additional threats to press freedom. The objective of this study is to explain and interpret Gramsci’s perspective on threats to press freedom within democratic states. Employing a qualitative method and a discourse analysis approach, the research draws upon Tempo magazine as a case study of press freedom under threat. The author argues that the state indirectly shapes press freedom through policies that conflict with democratic values, and that such hegemonic influence over the press reveals a governance framework rooted in the principle of non-neutrality.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate and analyze the career paths of graduates of the Banking and Microfinance Skills Program at XYZ University through a tracer study approach. The main focus of this research is to evaluate the extent to which the BMWs (Fields of Interest and Competencies) acquired during the studies influence their professional careers as well as the relevance of the acquired competencies to the needs of the job market in the banking and microfinance sectors. A qualitative approach was used in this research, with structured in-depth interview techniques with graduates as the main data collection method. Interviews will focus on graduates' career experiences, how they apply the knowledge and skills obtained from the study program, as well as evaluation of their preparation in facing challenges and demands in the workplace. This research receives urgency due to changing dynamics in the banking and microfinance sectors which are increasingly complex and changing rapidly. By tracking graduates' career trajectories, this research will provide a deeper understanding of the extent to which higher education curricula can adapt to these changes as well as BMW's real contribution in preparing graduates for success in the world of work. It is hoped that the results of this research can provide valuable input for the development of educational programs, enable universities to increase the relevance of curricula to industry needs, and provide insight to prospective students regarding career prospects and skills required in the banking and microfinance sectors

Abstract

This research was conducted to describe the strategies used by class teachers in overcoming reading learning difficulties of second grade students at SD Negeri 1 Sri Tanjung. This research employs descriptive qualitative research methods in the form of a case study. Qualitative research is also referred to as a naturalistic research method, as it is conducted in natural conditions. The findings of the research and subsequent discussion lead to the conclusion that a form of learning difficulty, specifically reading difficulties, was identified in Class II SDN Sritanjung. The reading difficulties observed in the field are classified as low-level reading difficulties. The strategies employed by the class teachers are not optimal, as evidenced by the persistence of difficulties in learning to read and write among a significant proportion of students. The teacher's strategy for introducing beginning reading employs a multi-modal approach, integrating the thickening of letters, the word wall method, reading book media, and a range of activities, including letter and word games, singing, the question-and-answer method, and the assignment method.

Abstract

For years, the residents of Rupat Island have been involved in economic activities in Malaysia. The border area has undergone many changes in recent years, especially in the Rupat Island region. This study aims to analyze policies based on the economic activities of the community on Rupat Island. The research method used is qualitative descriptive method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, and secondary data was obtained from documentation held by Unit Pengelola Pelabuhan (Port Operator). Research findings indicate that the commodities produced by the people of Rupat Island are mostly sold to neighboring Malaysia, particularly fresh fish catches from the sea. This occurs due to the relatively high selling price compared to the prices in Dumai or its surrounding areas. In addition to marine products sold to Malaysia, rubber from plantations has also become a commodity exported to the neighboring country. The community engages in this practice with the hope of achieving a higher selling price than if they were to sell in the local market. The people of Rupat Island are currently consuming many Indonesian products, especially staple food items, to meet their basic needs. This is different from before the improvement of road infrastructure and the operation of the roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) passenger and cargo ferries that began in 2011. Sustainable development policies and programs are needed so that the community can feel the impact of development and empowerment. The development of roads and bridges, the enhancement of economic growth in the primary and secondary sectors, as well as the provision and management of transportation infrastructure and facilities, aim to improve accessibility and the quality of regional infrastructure to facilitate the smooth flow of economic activities for the community.
