Abstract

This article examines the interpretation of verses related to the story of the people of Prophet Shu'aib in the Jāmi' Al-Bayān Fī Ta'wīl Al-Qur'ān. The focus of this study is directed at analyzing the moral character of the people of Madyan so that there is an ibrah (moral message) contained in the story of the people of Prophet Shu'aib. The verses that discuss the story of the people of Madyan are QS. al-A'raf 85-94, QS. Hud 84-94, QS. asy-Syu'ara' 176-191 and QS. al-Ankabut 36-37 using ath-Thabari's interpretation. The purpose of this study is to examine and review the interpretation of the verses of the Qur'an containing the story of the people of Prophet Shu'aib from the perspective of Jāmi' al-Bayān Fī Ta'wīl Al-Qur'ān by Imam  Ath-Thabari and to explore the moral aspects of the story of the people of  Madyan. This research is classified as library research related to library studies, focusing on the character of the people of Madyan. Thus, the conclusion shows that the story of the people of Prophet Shu'aib contains lessons that can be used as life lessons, namely positive characters such as honesty and justice, belief in the truth, tolerance, and humility.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap pemikiran politik Hamka dan pengaruhnya dalam penafsiran. Banyak prediket dapat disandangkan kepada sosok Hamka. Hamka tidak hanya dikenal sebagai seorang sastrawan, kolumnis, tetapi Hamka juga populer sebagai seorang ulama, mufassir dan politikus. Hamka dalam menyampaikan ide-ide pemikirannya, tidak hanya dengan lisan tetapi juga tulisan. Hal ini terbukti banyaknya karya-karya Hamka dari berbagai lintas keilmuwan. Karya Hamka yang populer dan fenomenal adalah Tafsir al-Azhar. Sebagai seorang yang terlibat dalam politik praktis, memberi pengaruh bagi Hamka dalam menafsirkan al-Qur’an.  Di antara ide-ide pemikiran Hamka dalam Tafsir al-Azhar adalah berkaitan dengan politik. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian library reseach dengan sumber data primer Tasir al-Azhar dan sumber sekunder adalah buku-buku yang berhubungan dengan penelitian. Analisis data adalah analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Temuan penelitian ini adalah menurut Hamka, perintah musyawarah terdapat dalam al-Qur’an, namun al-Qu’an tidak menjelaskan secara detail pelaksanaan musyawarah. Pelaksanaan musyawarah tergantung kepada situasi dan kondisi masyarakat. Dalam pemilihan kepala negara, Hamka berpendapat bahwa syarat kepala negara adalah orang seiman. Alasan Hamka kepala negara yang dipilih orang seiman, karena kepala negara tidak seiman (non-muslim) dapat mengajak kepada thaghut. Hubungan negara dan agama tidak ada pemisahan antara urusan negara dengan agama.

Abstract

The decline in ethical standards among leaders, teachers, and students in the field of education has the potential to undermine the quality of education. A number of teachers, who should serve as role models, have instead engaged in misconduct, such as violence, sexual harassment, and a lack of professional commitment. This phenomenon tarnishes the reputation of both individuals and the teaching profession as a whole. This study aims to explore the Qur’anic guidance regarding the ethics and conduct of Qur’an instructors by referring to exegetical works. The method used is qualitative, specifically a literature review. Employing an analysis based on thematic exegesis, this article seeks to uncover the concepts of ethics and conduct for instructors as presented in exegetical texts. The results of the study indicate that QS. Hud [11]: 15–16 and Asy-Syura [42]: 20 emphasize the importance of maintaining sincere intentions; QS. al-Maidah [5]: 8 emphasizes justice and objectivity in education; QS. al-Ahzab [33]: 21 presents the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, as the primary role model for educators, and QS. al-Nahl [16]: 125 teaches the importance of wisdom and gentleness in offering advice. This study contributes to enriching the understanding of thematic exegesis regarding the ethics and conduct of Qur’an teachers while providing practical guidelines for educators to apply Qur’anic values in modern education.

Abstract

Understanding of the Qur’an can be achieved through mastery of the various disciplines encompassed within ʿulūm al-Qur’ān, one of which is the branch of knowledge that discusses the muhkam and mutashabih verses. This study aims to elaborate more deeply on the characteristics of muhkam and mutashabih verses by referring to the twentieth principle in al-Qawā‘id al-Ḥisān fī Tafsīr al-Qur’ān by  Abdurrahman al-Sa‘dī.  Using a  qualitative-descriptive approach based  on library research, the twentieth principle in al-Qawā‘id al-Ḥisān maps verses into three categories: entirely muhkam, entirely mutashabih, and verses that contain elements of both muhkam and mutashabih to a certain degree. The results of the study indicate that muhkam verses possess several main characteristics: their meanings are clear and their intent can be understood; they do not require interpretation (ta’wil); they can stand independently without reliance on other verses; their wording is not repetitive; and they contain legal provisions such as commands, promises, and threats. As for mutashabih verses, their characteristics are as follows: some of their meanings cannot be fully comprehended by human beings and their ultimate knowledge rests only with Allah SWT, such as the occurrence of the Day of Judgment; others can be understood through interpretation and in-depth study; they require ta’wil; they cannot stand independently without reference to other verses; their wording tends to be repetitive; and they often contain narratives and parables

Abstract

This study discusses the meaning of rada’ah in QS. al-Baqarah [2]: 233 and its implications for divorce law. This verse affirms the mother's right to breastfeed her child for two full years for those who wish to complete the breastfeeding period, while emphasizing the father's obligation to provide for the mother and child in a ma'ruf manner. Using qualitative-descriptive methods with library research, this article applies ijmali and tahlili interpretations to understand the global and detailed meaning of the verse, and examines its impact on the rights, obligations, and protection of children after divorce. The results of the study indicate that the meaning of rada’ah encompasses biological, legal, social, and emotional dimensions. Through ijmali interpretation, this verse is understood globally as the principle of balance between parental rights and obligations, while tahlili interpretation emphasizes legal details related to maintenance, breastfeeding, weaning, mahram rights, and child protection. Implications for divorce law include the father's obligation to provide for a nursing mother, the mother's primary right to care for the child during the breastfeeding period, and the principle of deliberation in weaning children before two years of age. This research confirms that the concept of rada’ah serves as a normative foundation for maintaining justice, the welfare of children, and the continuity of parental relationships even after divorce, in line with Islamic law and Indonesian national law. The contribution of this research lies in the integration of ijmali and tahlili interpretations with contemporary family law studies, thus positioning rada’ah as the basis for child protection and post-divorce arrangements for support and care.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membahas pola asuh generasi Z berdasarkan penafsiran QS. an-Nisa’ [24]: 30–31. Hal ini dilatarbelakangi oleh tantangan pola asuh yang dimanjakan dengan teknologi yang terus berkembang sehingga melemahnya peran keluarga sebagai pranata pendidik pertama. Pola asuh generasi Z memiliki ciri khas unik dari generasi sebelumnya yang dapat memanfaatkan perkembangan teknologi, namun memiliki tantangan baru yang dituntut untuk siap siaga dalam menjaga, mengawasi dan memberikan pola asuh anak dengan baik. Metode yang digunakan kualitatif-deskriptif dengan jenis penelitian kepustakaan (library research). Dengan metode tersebut, hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa dari tafsir klasik maupun kontemporer, QS. an-Nisa’ [24]: 30–31 mengandung pesan kuat tentang pentingnya menanamkan kesadaran moral, disiplin, dan tanggung jawab sejak dini. Dalam tinjauan tafsir maudhu’i, ayat tersebut menekankan prinsip yang sangat relevan dalam konteks pola asuh di era modern, yakni mengedepankan pentingnya pandangan dan akhlak, terutama memberikan pedoman penting bagi orang tua generasi Z dalam mendidik anak-anaknya. Hasil kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa orang tua generasi Z di era modern perlu membimbing cara pandang, karakter, dan perilaku anak baik di dunia nyata maupun di ruang digital, karena pengawasan yang bijak, komunikasi yang terbuka, serta keteladanan orang tua merupakan unsur utama dalam pola pengasuhan anak pada era modern.

Abstract

The rise of Rationalism as a philosophical school has exerted influence not only on the disciplines of education, law, and politics, but has also permeated broader aspects of human life, including the domain of religion. One of the central implications of Rationalism is its insistence on placing human reason as a primary instrument for attaining truth and knowledge. This study seeks to examine Tafsir al-Manâr, a seminal work of Muhammad Abduh dan Rasyîd Ridhâ, who endeavored  to  interpret  religion  through a  rationalist framework. Employing a library-based research design with a descriptive–analytical approach, this study utilizes Tafsir al-Manâr as the primary source, complemented by scholarly articles and books that discuss the intellectual contributions of Muhammad Abduh dan Rasyîd Ridhâ. The findings indicate that: (1) both scholars privilege the role of reason in understanding the Qur’an, considering it an indispensable means for the attainment of truth; (2) they repudiate the practice of taqlîd, asserting that religious commitment must rest upon sound proofs and demonstrative evidence; (3) Qur’anic  verses  pertaining to   natural   phenomena  (âyât kauniyyah) ought  to be interpreted through scientific inquiry rather than mystical or mythological explanations;  (4) legal rulings must remain responsive to changing socio-historical contexts and must align with the objectives of Islamic law (maqâshid syarî’ah), and 5) The Tafsir al-Manâr marks a new direction in the reformulation of Qur’anic exegesis methodology, shifting from a predominantly textual approach to one that is contextual and rational, and from mere textual understanding toward actively addressing contemporary social issues.

Abstract

Dalam kajian al-Qur’an, terdapat sejumlah lafaz yang sering dianggap memiliki kesamaan makna, padahal masing-masing memiliki makna khas yang berbeda. Salah satunya adalah lafadz al-mīzān dan al-Qisṭās yang kerap dipahami sebagai sinonim dengan arti “timbangan” atau “keadilan.” Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan makna khas dari masing-masing lafaz tersebut dengan menggunakan teori anti sinonimitas yang dikembangkan oleh Muhammad Syahrur. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif-kepustakaan dengan sumber data meliputi al-Qur’an, karya-karya Muhammad Syahrur, kitab tafsir klasik dan modern, serta literatur kebahasaan Arab. Analisis dilakukan dengan menelusuri makna dasar, dan perkembangan maknanya secara sinkronik dan diakronik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa al-mīzān merepresentasikan konsep keadilan dan keseimbangan yang bersifat universal dan normatif, sedangkan al-Qisṭās menggambarkan penerapan nilai keadilan secara konkret dalam konteks sosial, hukum, dan ekonomi. Keduanya memiliki hubungan semantik yang erat, namun berbeda fungsi dan lingkup makna. Temuan ini menegaskan pandangan Syahrur bahwa tidak terdapat sinonimitas dalam al-Qur’an, dan setiap lafadz memiliki makna yang unik serta tidak saling menggantikan tanpa mengubah pesan ilahi. Penelitian ini memperkuat pandangan bahwa bahasa al-Qur’an tidak bersifat sinonim, melainkan setiap lafaz mengandung makna yang khas dan tidak dapat digantikan tanpa mengubah pesan ilahi. Penelitian ini juga berkontribusi dalam kajian tafsir dengan menekankan pentingnya analisis linguistik yang cermat guna menghindari penyederhanaan makna yang berpotensi mereduksi kedalaman pesan al-Qur’an.

Abstract

The tradition of memorizing the Qur’an (Taḥfiẓ) represents one of the forms of internalization and actualization of Qur’anic values in the life of Muslim communities. Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra, initiated the 1000 Ḥāfiẓ Program as a strategic effort to instill Qur’anic values among the younger generation while strengthening the religious culture of the community. This study aims to analyze the program from the perspective of Living Qur’an, an approach that examines how the Qur’an is practiced, experienced, and internalized within the social life of society. Using a qualitative method with phenomenological and sociological approaches, this article explores the dynamics of Taḥfiẓ practices within the socio-religious context of the Pasaman community. The findings indicate that the 1000 Ḥāfiẓ Program represents the Qur’an as a living text, a sacred text that is not merely read and memorized but also actualized in the formation of character, the strengthening of social control, and the construction of the community’s religious identity. Through Taḥfiẓ activities, Qur’anic instruction, and the development of a religious culture within educational institutions and society, the Qur’an functions as a living value that shapes socio-religious practices. In addition to producing Qur’an memorizers, the program also strengthens social morality and the Islamic identity of the Pasaman community. Therefore, the sustainability of this program should continue to be supported through synergy among local government, educational institutions, and the wider community so that Qur’anic values remain alive and functional in social reality.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis kedudukan besi sebagai fondasi peradaban manusia melalui kajian tafsir terhadap QS. al-Hadid [57]: 25 dan QS. Saba’ [34]: 10-11 dengan pendekatan ilmiah integratif. Studi ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif berbasis studi kepustakaan (library research) dengan sumber data primer berupa karya tafsir klasik dan kontemporer, seperti Tafsir al-Tabari, Tafsir al-Azhar, serta karya tafsir ilmiah Zaghlūl an-Najjār, dan didukung oleh literatur ilmiah terkait metalurgi. Analisis dilakukan melalui teknik content analysis dengan pendekatan tematik untuk mengidentifikasi makna teologis, linguistik, dan saintifik terkait konsep besi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa al-Qur’an memposisikan besi sebagai anugerah ilahi yang memiliki ba’sun syadid (kekuatan besar) dan manafi‘ li al-nas (manfaat bagi manusia), yang terefleksi dalam perkembangan teknologi dan peradaban sejak masa Nabi Dawud hingga revolusi industri modern. Besi tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai material struktural utama dalam bidang pertanian, militer, konstruksi, dan industri, tetapi juga menjadi simbol kemajuan teknologi yang menopang sistem sosial, ekonomi, dan infrastruktur modern. Temuan ini menegaskan adanya sinergi antara wahyu dan ilmu pengetahuan dalam memahami peran metalurgi sebagai instrumen kemaslahatan serta indikator kemajuan peradaban manusia dari era awal hingga Revolusi Industri 5.0.
