Abstract

The problem of wood waste, particularly wood dust, is a pressing environmental issue for the furniture industry in Senden Village, Ngawen District, Klaten Regency. Waste that is usually burned or piled up causes pollution and impacts public health. The innovation of processing waste into environmentally friendly red bricks is a solution that has a selling value, is lighter, has good thermal insulation, and supports the eco-friendly concept. However, the artisan group still faces obstacles in the traditional marketing aspect. The objective of this community service activity is to analyze and implement marketing strategies, specifically through a digital approach, for the Senden Jaya Furniture Artisan Group. The activity methods include outreach, workshops, mentoring, and evaluation with the involvement of partner members as the main active participants. The results show an increase in partner skills in utilizing digital platforms such as Tokopedia as an online sales channel and TikTok and Instagram as creative promotional tools. Based on the post-test results, participants' understanding of digital marketing has significantly increased, and the product's image as an environmentally friendly brick has improved. These findings demonstrate that digital marketing strategies are effective in increasing partner economic value while supporting sustainable waste management.

Abstract

Stunting remains a public health issue in Indonesia, including in West Bandung Regency (KBB). Insufficient optimal nutrition is often exacerbated by poor appetite in children under two years old (Baduta) and pregnant women. This Community Service Program (PkM) aimed to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and skills (KAS) of the community particularly mothers and Posyandu cadres in Cisasawi Village in utilizing Temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.) as a locally sourced, affordable, and sustainable complementary nutrition intervention to address stunting risk. The PkM implementation involved pre-intervention, development of educational modules and media, education and demonstration, post-intervention, and follow-up stages. Participants consisted of 32 mothers of Baduta, pregnant women, and Posyandu cadres. Results showed a significant increase in the participants’ average knowledge scores, from 58.7 (poor category) in the pre-test to 85.3 (good category) in the post-test (p < 0.05). Additionally, 93% of participants demonstrated practical skills in processing Temulawak into simple syrup or powdered gelatin. Discussion indicated that Temulawak is effective as a natural appetite stimulant due to its curcuminoid and essential oil content, supporting increased daily calorie intake, which is crucial for stunting prevention. This PkM concluded that education based on local wisdom is an effective and sustainable strategy to support community nutrition improvement programs in Cisasawi Village.

Abstract

African Swine Fever (ASF) is a highly fatal viral disease in pigs caused by a double-stranded DNA virus of the genus Asfivirus (family Asfarviridae). The virus is environmentally resilient and can survive in blood, meat, and pig housing, often leading to mass mortality. Infection with virulent strains results in acute to peracute ASF, characterized by high fever, internal and external hemorrhages, and sudden death, with mortality rates exceeding 90% within three to ten days. The Modung Mior Farmers Group in Watuwelut Hamlet, Ribang Village, Koting District, Sikka Regency, consisting of ten members and raising six pigs in 2024, experienced sudden and simultaneous livestock deaths due to ASF. A limited understanding of Closed House (CH) systems and biosecurity practices reduced the group’s performance, lowering motivation to raise pigs during the 2019–March 2025 ASF outbreak and decreasing household income. The Primary Community Empowerment Program (PMP) aims to enhance the group’s competence and motivation through human resource management training and the construction of CH pig housing with strict biosecurity measures. The methods applied include socialization, training, technology implementation, and mentoring. The program outcomes show improved knowledge regarding ASF symptoms, transmission sources, prevention measures, barn-area zoning, biosecurity actions, and post-ASF reproductive management. The group now operates a CH-model pig pen equipped with para nets and insect nets (mesh 40) and applies routine disinfection. Additionally, members’ motivation to rebuild pig farming has increased, relationships within the group have become more supportive and open, and a business analysis comparing conditions during and after the ASF outbreak provides a foundation for developing the group’s entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Farmers in Prayungan Hamlet faced severe problems stemming from a dependency on chemical agriculture. This practice led to documented soil degradation and a drastic decrease in harvest yields, which fell from 45.5 tons in 2019 to 28.1 tons in 2021. The root problems identified included low farmer awareness, weak Farmer Group institutions and a lack supportive policies. This community service activity aimed to organize farmers using the Participatory Action Research method. The proposed solution involved a four part intervention strategy: (1) socialization and education, (2) strengthening Poktan institutional capacity, (3) practical training in producing alternative fertilizers, and (4) village policy advocacy. Key findings indicated a significant increase in farmer awareness and practical skills for producing fertilizer independently. The role of the Marsudi Farmer Group was succesfully transformed from merely a subsidy distributor into an active learning forum. Furthermore, the activity initiated a commitment from the Village Government to draft a Village Regulation supporting environmentally friendly agriculture. In conclusion, the PAR method proved effective in empowering farmers, which was confirmed by the independent adoption of these practices post-training.

Abstract

The increase in dengue fever cases is influenced by the rainy season, which creates an ideal environment for the development of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Furthermore, dengue fever can be caused by several behaviors that arise as a result of a lack of health education related to dengue fever, and a lack of community skills in utilizing natural ingredients as a substitute for chemical mosquito repellents. Therefore, it is necessary to empower mothers who are the frontline of family health to increase their knowledge and skills to protect their families from dengue fever. This activity aims to increase knowledge, skills, and motivation in preventing and handling the emergence of dengue fever. The method of this activity is education, training, and direct practice with target partners, namely the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) group. The results of this activity obtained an increase in knowledge from 12.5% with good knowledge to 90% with good knowledge, from 20% skilled to 85% skilled in making serute mosquito repellent. Therefore, it can be concluded that this partner empowerment activity is able to increase the knowledge and skills of the PKK group. Therefore, it is recommended that the PKK group actively encourage residents and cadres to utilize household kitchen ingredients to make natural mosquito repellents and continue to maintain the cleanliness of the house and environment to avoid dengue fever.

Abstract

Increasing Income Through Betel Nut Candy Products (PERANG) in Teluk Sentosa Village aims to provide a deep understanding to the community about the significant potential of local products, particularly betel nut, which is known for its health benefits and high economic value. In this outreach program, the community received training on making betel nut candy conducted in a participatory manner, where the entire processing was done together with guidance from experts. The activities began with an introduction to the benefits of betel nut, both from a health perspective, such as its high antioxidant content, and from an economic standpoint, which can enhance household income. Through this training, village residents were encouraged to develop their creativity in creating more attractive and high-value product variants. As a subsequent step, it is hoped that these betel nut candy products can enter larger distribution networks, including modern and online markets, thereby providing a more significant economic impact for the community of Teluk Sentosa Village. This program also plans to involve more community groups in further training, allowing more families to benefit economically from these innovative products.
