Abstract

Hikayat Tajussalatin, a work by Bukhari al-Jawhari, is one popular text on Islamic politics. The text, which originated from the Malay tradition, was later translated into Javanese and given the title Serat Tajussalatin. Using reception theory, this article examines changes in the citation of the Quranic verses in the Javanese version of Tajussalatin compared to its Malay version. Javanese Serat Tajussalatin under study is a collection (number 53) of the Center for Historical and Traditional Values Studies (Balai Kajian Sejarah dan Nilai-nilai Tradisional) Yogyakarta, while its Malay version, Hikayat Tajussalatin, is available at the library of the Postgraduate Program of the Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta. This study found that changes in the citation of the Quranic verses in Serat Tajussalatin include sound changes, and word and syllable addition. The author argues that these changes occurred because the writing of Serat Tajussalatin had to abide by the rules for writing Javanese traditional poetry. This transformation also indicates the way through which Javanese people adapted Islamic texts from other cultures. Key Words: Tajussalatin, Malay literature, Javanese literature, reception theory. Tajussalatin karya Bukhari al-Jauhari adalah salah satu teks populer tentang politik Islam yang berasal dari tradisi Melayu. Teks tersebut kemudian diterjemahkan dalam Bahasa Jawa dengan judul Serat Tajussalatin. Melalui teori resepsi, penelitian ini menjelaskan perubahan- perubahan pengutipan ayat-ayat Al-Quran dalam Tajussalatin versi Jawa, yang dibandingkan dengan Tajussalatin versi Melayu. Adapun sumber data Serat Tajussalatin adalah naskah koleksi Balai Kajian Sejarah dan Nilai-Nilai Tradisional Yogyakarta bernomor S53, sedangkan edisi teks Hikayat Tajussalatin tersedia di Perpustakaan Program Pascasarjana Universitas Gadjah Mada. Penelitian ini menemukan, bahwa perubahan yang terjadi pada pengutipan ayat Al-Quran dalam Serat Tajussalatin itu adalah perubahan bunyi, penambahan kata dan suku kata. Hal itu diakibatkan adanya aturan dalam puisi tradisional Jawa. Dengan demikian, transformasi ini menunjukkan cara orang Jawa Islam menerima teks-teks keislaman dari budaya lain (Melayu). Abstract

This article presents the results of a research on the responses of Islamic mass organizations towards Shi’a Muslims in Bandung City, West Java. Data collection methods used for this study include interviews, observation and document study. The author found that there are opposing responses toward Shia Muslims in Bandung, as represented by two Islamic organizations: FUUI (Forum Ulama Umat Indonesia) and MUHSIN (Majelis Ukhuwah Sunni-Syiah Indonesia). FUUI takes stand against Shia on the basis of theological purification arguments. On the other side, MUHSIN, while does not necessarily agree with interpretations of Islamic teachings held by Shia Muslims, is ready to accept their presence because MUHSIN’s activists recognize the need to protect universal values, such as pluralism, tolerance, and civil rights. Key Words: Shia Muslims, pluralism, FUUI, MUHSIN, Bandung. Tulisan ini menyajikan hasil penelitian tentang respon organisasi kemasyarakatan Islam (Ormas) terhadap Syiah di Bandung, Jawa Barat. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumen. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan, bahwa respon terhadap eksistensi Syiah di Jawa Barat dapat dikelompokkan menjadi dua yang direspresentasikan oleh dua Ormas, yakni Forum Ulama Umat Indonesia (FUUI) dan Majelis Ukhuwah Sunni-Syiah Indonesia (Muhsin). FUUI menolak Syiah dengan argumen pemurnian teologis. Sedangkan Muhsin menerima keberadaan Syiah, tanpa harus menerima interpretasi ajaran Islam dari Muslim Syiah. Hal ini didasari oleh argumen untuk menjaga nilai-nilai universal, seperti pluralisme, toleransi, dan hak-hak kewarganegaraan. Kata Kunci: Muslim Syiah, pluralisme, FUUI, MUHSIN, Bandung.

Abstract

Recent research publications demonstrate that some school students as well as their religious teachers tend to support ideas that have been promoted by radical Islamic organizations. They also give their support to some acts of religious violence. Given these publications, it is important to see whether this radical tendency among school students is affected by religious reading materials which those students read. Using the framework of media reception theory, this research examines religious reading materials read by ROHIS activist students and their reception of those materials. ROHIS (Rohani Islam) is one of the religious extra-curricular activities at schools. The study was conducted in Senior High Schools 1 and 3 in the city of Banda Aceh, Aceh Province. The author found that in these two schools ROHIS activists tended to selectively read religious reading materials according to their religious tradition and religious motivation as well as the styles of language and writing of the materials they read. Beberapa hasil penelitian menunjukkan, bahwa beberapa siswa sekolah dan guru agamanya lebih mendukung ide-ide gerakan Islam radikal. Mereka juga mendukung aktifitas kekerasan atas nama agama. Hal ini menjadikan penting untuk melihat apakah kecenderungan terhadap radikalisme di kalangan siswa tersebut dipengaruhi oleh bahan bacaan yang mereka baca. Dengan menggunakan kerangka teori resepsi media, penelitian ini menjelaskan bahan bacaan keagamaan dan resepsi (penerimaan/tanggapan) siswa terhadap bahan bacaan tersebut. Rohis (Rohani Islam) adalah salah satu kegiatan ekstrakurikuler keagamaan di sekolah. Penelitian dilakukan di SMAN 1 dan 3 Kota Banda Aceh. Peneliti menemukan, bahwa Rohis SMAN 1 dan 3 Kota Banda Aceh lebih memilah secara selektif buku-buku keagamaan tertentu berdasarkan ikatan tradisinya, motivasi beragama, dan gaya bahasa dan penyampaian. Abstract

Most people recognize that learning to be good character primarily begins with family. Despite the primary role of parents, most people also expect that schools should and do have a role in character development. Madrasah Ibtidaiyah is an Islamic elementary school that provides alternative character education based on religious values. This article presents the results of a research on character education developed by Private Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al-Usmaniyah in Bagan Batu, Riau Province. Data collection techniques used for this research include observation, interviews, and document study. This research found that in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al-Usmaniyah character development is infused into every aspect of the school culture, curriculum, and extra-curricular activities. In this madrasah character education is designed and implemented by taking into account the aspirations of the madrasah stakeholders. People consider this participatory nature of character education is more effective in nurturing good character in students. Key Words: Character education, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Al-Usmaniyah, Riau. Banyak orang menerima, bahwa pendidikan karakter yang baik utamanya dimulai dari keluarga. Meskipun demikian, banyak orang juga mengharapkan sekolah berperan dalam pengembangan karakter. Madrasah ibtidaiyah adalah sebagai bentuk satuan pendidikan tingkat dasar yang menawarkan solusi alternatif melalui pendidikan karakter yang bersumber dari nilai-nilai agama. Tulisan ini menyajikan hasil penelitian tentang pendidikan karakter yang dikembangkan Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Swasta (MIS) Al-Usmaniyah Bagan Batu Propinsi Riau. Metode pengumpulan data dengan observasi, wawancara mendalam, studi pustaka, dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini menemukan, bahwa pembentukan karakter yang dilakukan oleh MIS Al-Usmaniyah dituangkan dalam bentuk budaya madrasah, yang dijadikan sebagai pedoman bagi pengembangan karakter peserta didik, diimplementasikan dalam setiap mata pelajaran dan ekstra kurikuler bernuansa keagamaan dengan memperhatikan aspirasi dari seluruh elemen madrasah. Konsep pembentukan karakter seperti itu dipandang lebih efektif untuk menumbuhkan karakter terpuji siswa. Kata Kunci: Pendidikan karakter, madrasah ibtidaiyah Al-Usmaniyah, Riau.

Abstract

Friday sermons (khutbah Jum'at) play a significant role in nurturing the values of faith (iman) and God-consciousness (takwa) among Muslims. This study seeks to explore features of Friday sermons in the City of Palembang, South Sumatera. For the purpose of data collection, researcher with his team attended Friday prayers in 37 mosques during two weeks. The researcher and his team were listening to and recording what Friday sermon preachers delivered. These recorded sermons were then transcribed and analyzed using the method of content analysis. This research found that Islamic faith, noble behavior, and Islamic law were the most popular themes delivered by Friday sermons preachers. However, Friday sermon preachers tended to discuss the themes of their sermons in terms of normative and literal Islamic teachings. Most sermon preachers provided no contextual elaboration of their sermons in order to cope with problems of the Islamic community. They paid less attention to political, economic, and justice issues, as well as science and technology. Key Words: Preaching (dakwah), Friday sermon, mosques, content analysis, Palembang. Khutbah Jum'at memiliki peran yang sangat strategis dalam menanamkan nilai-nilai keimanan dan ketakwaan. Penelitian ini memeriksa pola- pola khutbah Jum'at di Kota Palembang, Sumatera Selatan. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti dengan timnya menghadiri salat Jum'at di 37 masjid selama dua minggu. Peneliti dengan timnya mendengarkan dan merekam pesan-pesan khutbah Jum'at yang disampaikan. Khutbah- khutbah tersebut ditranskripsi dan dianalisis dengan metode analisis isi. Penelitian ini menemukan, bahwa soal-soal keimanan Islam, akhlak terpuji, dan hukum-hukum Islam adalah tema-tema yang populer disampaikan oleh para khatib. Tetapi tema-tema tersebut disampaikan cenderung secara normatif dan lebih menitikberatkan pada penyampaian nilai- nilai Islam tekstual. Banyak khatib yang belum mampu mengelaborasi khutbah Jum'at dengan penjelasan yang kontekstual demi menjawab permasalahan umat. Para khatib kurang memperhatikan tema-tema politik, ekonomi, hukum, serta ilmu dan teknologi. Kata Kunci: Dakwah, khutbah Jum'at, masjid, analisis isi, Palembang.

Abstract

Educational experts recognize that learning conditions affect student achievement. The same applies for Arabic learning. Despites the important effects which learning conditions have on student achievement, Arabic learning conditions are still the rare subject to research. It is therefore important to know current Arabic learning conditions in order to improve the results of Arabic learning. This article summarizes the findings of a research on Arabic learning conditions in Sultan Thaha Saifuddin IAIN (State Institute for Islamic Studies) Jambi. Components of learning conditions examined include the objectives and characteristics of the subject (in this case, Arabic learning), constraints to the Arabic learning, and student characteristics. This research found among others that the short of learning time, Arabic learning environments, limited Arabic learning facilities, the high ratio of student numbers to class capacity, and less motivated students are among the factors that create constraints to Arabic learning in the college. Key Words: Learning conditions, Arabic, learning constraints, Sultan Thaha Saifuddin IAIN, Jambi. Para ahli pendidikan memandang, bahwa kondisi pembelajaran mempengaruhi prestasi siswa. Hal yang sama juga terjadi dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Arab. Meskipun demikian, kondisi pembelajaran Bahasa Arab jarang menjadi subjek pembahasan. Oleh karena itu, untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran Bahasa Arab, diperlukan pengetahuan mengenai kondisi pembelajarannya. Tulisan ini menyajikan hasil penelitian terhadap kondisi pembelajaran Bahasa Arab di IAIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin (STS) Jambi. Elemen-elemen kondisi pembelajaran yang dijelaskan adalah tujuan pembelajaran, karakteristik pembelajaran Bahasa Arab, kendala-kendala pembelajaran dan karakteristik siswa. Penelitian ini menemukan, bahwa kurangnya waktu, lingkungan pembelajaran, keterbatasan fasilitas, rasio jumlah mahasiswa terhadap kapasitas kelas, dan kurangnya motivasi mahasiswa dalam belajar Bahasa Arab, adalah beberapa faktor yang menjadi kendala pembelajaran Bahasa Arab di perguruan tinggi. Abstract

This article provides the results of a research on an Islamic sect called Islam Tauhid in Pandeglang District, Banten Province, and the way through which the local government managed religious conflict involving this group. The methods used for the study comprised interviews, document study, and focus group discussion. The author found that one of the reasons why the local branch of MUI (Majelis Ulama Indonesia) considered Islam Tauhid as a deviant sect was that Juneidi, the founder of the sect, taught that instead of practicing prayer (shalat), Muslims only need to remember God. Besides, he also taught that Friday prayer was not an obligation for Muslim men. And in order to attract his young Muslim audience, he delivered his sermons on Islam through playing chess and dominoes. Mass violence occurred against this sect resulting in the burning of Junaidi’s house, even though Junaidi and his assistant could be safely evacuated to the police office. The author argues that fatalities could be prevented because of quick responses from, and good coordination among,the elements of local government, such as the district government, security apparatus, Bakorpakem, and the district- level Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as non-government institutions, such as MUI and FKUB (Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama). Tulisan ini menyajikan hasil penelitian tentang paham yang diajarkan oleh aliran Islam Tauhid, sehingga dianggap sesat, dan manajemen konflik keagamaan yang dilakukan oleh Pemerintah Daerah Kabupaten Pandeglang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode wawancara, studi dokumen, dan focus group discussion. Peneliti menemukan, bahwa salah satu alasan mengapa cabang lokal dari MUI (Majelis Ulama Indonesia) menganggap Islam Tauhid sebagai aliran sesat adalah, bahwa Junaidi, pendiri sekte, mengajarkan umat Islam hanya perlu mengingat Tuhan daripada salat. Selain itu, dia juga mengajarkan, bahwa salat Jum’at itu bukan kewajiban bagi laki-laki Muslim. Dalam rangka untuk menarik kalangan muda Muslim, dia menyampaikan khutbah tentang Islam melalui bermain catur dan domino. Hal ini memicu kekerasan massa terjadi terhadap sekte ini, yang mengakibatkan pembakaran rumah Junaidi, meskipun Junaidi dan asistennya bisa selamat diungsikan ke kantor polisi. Peneliti berpendapat, bahwa kematian dapat dicegah karena respon cepat dari, dan koordinasi yang baik di antara, unsur pemerintah daerah, seperti pemerintah kabupaten, aparat keamanan, Bakorpakem, dan Departemen Agama tingkat kabupaten, serta lembaga non pemerintah, seperti MUI dan FKUB (Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama). Abstract

This paper presents the results of a research on the traditions and yellow book (kitab kuning) contextualization efforts in Islamic boarding school (Pesantren), with a case study of Islamic Boarding School Miftahul Huda Manonjaya Tasikmalaya. The study used a number of methods for data-gathering, including reading and interpretating texts of books or documents about Islamic Boarding School history through observing text reader communities, and an in-depth interview. The results indicated that yellow book (kitab kuning) reading tradition in Islamic Boarding School Miftahul Huda has been continuing to this day. The school community Miftahul Huda Manonjaya contextualizes the yellow book. For example, they use Faṭ’al-Mu‘īn to solve and address some evolving current issues and problems. Tulisan ini menyajikan hasil penelitian tentang tradisi dan upaya kontekstualisasi kitab di Pesantren, dengan studi kasus di Pondok Pesantren (PP) Miftahul Huda Manonjaya Tasikmalaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pengumpulan data yang berupa pembacaan dan penafsiran atas teks kitab atau dokumen-dokumen tentang sejarah pesantren dengan observasi terhadap komunitas pembaca teks, serta wawancara mendalam. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan, bahwa di Pondok Pesantren Miftahul Huda tradisi membaca kitab ‘kuning’ masih berlangsung sampai saat ini, dan masyarakat Pondok Pesantren Miftahul Huda Manonjaya mengkontekstualisasikan kitab ‘kuning’ misalnya untuk menyelesaikan serta menjawab persoalan-persoalandan isu-isu terkini yang berkembang di masyarakat, yang jawabanya diperoleh dari kitab kuning, seperti kitab Faṭ’al-Mu‘īn. Abstract

This paper provides the results of a research on the mapping of madrasa quality in achieving National Education Standards (SNP). The research target is Islamic Senior High School (Madrasah Aliyah), and the sample is Province of Riau. The research used questionnaires, coupled with documentation techniques for data-gathering. The findings showed that: 1) The quality of Islamic Senior High School in Riau Province generally the same between the public and the private madrasa. 2) There are two aspects, which have significant correlations with the output as of national test, namely educator standards and infrastructure standards. 3) There are a number of enabling and inhibiting factors from within or and outside institutions in the achievement of the National Education Standards. 4) Regarding inhibiting factors, Islamic Senior High School in Riau Province has done some efforts in attaining the standard. Tulisan ini menyajikan hasil penelitian tentang peta mutu madrasah dalam pencapaian Standar Nasional Pendidikan (SNP). Sasaran penelitian sebagai unit analisis adalah Madrasah Aliyah dengan sampel wilayah Provinsi Riau. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner, dan didukung dengan studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, bahwa: 1) Mutu Madrasah Aliyah di Provinsi Riau secara umum relatif sama dan tidak jauh berbeda antara madrasah negeri maupun madrasah swasta. 2) Bila dilihat dari masing-masing aspek SNP, terdapat 2 (dua) aspek yang mempunyai korelasi dengan output (hasil UN), yaitu standar tenaga pendidik dan kependidikan dan standar sarana prasarana. 3) Banyak faktor pendukung dan penghambat dalam upaya pencapaian SNP, baik dari dalam (intern) maupun dari luar (ekstern). 4) Terkait dengan adanya beberapa penghambat,telah dilakukan upaya dalam pencapaian SNP. Kata Kunci: Mutu pendidikan, Madrasah, Standar Nasional Pendidikan (SNP), Riau.

Abstract

This paper presents the results of research on the implementation of Islamic religious education as an instrument of character education at the elementary level educational institutions. Using comparative research in two schools in Bengkulu, namely Integrated Islamic Primary School (SDIT) Iqra 1 and in State Primary School (SDN) 1, the research focus directed at aspects in the implementation of Islamic religious education in building the students character, including input, process, output and method aspects. This study used both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The results showed that, both schools have implemented educational character through establishing and developing religious education so that learners have a noble character applied in everyday life. Except the input aspect, both schools equally employ the integrated and comprehensive educational process through model and habitual methods in resulting excellent outputs, it is shown that both schools reach a hundred percent of their completions over the last 6 years. Tulisan ini menyajikan hasil penelitian mengenai pelaksanaan pendidikan agama Islam sebagai instrumen pendidikan karakter di lembaga pendidikan tingkat dasar. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada aspek input, proses, metode, dan output pelaksanaan pendidikan agama Islam dalam pembentukan karakter siswa, dengan melakukan riset komparatif di dua sekolah, yaitu Sekolah Dasar Islam Terpadu (SDIT) Iqra 1 dan Sekolah Dasar Negeri (SDN) 1, yang keduanya berada di Kota Bengkulu. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan didukung data kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, bahwa SDIT Iqra 1 dan SD Negeri 1 Kota Bengkulu telah menerapkan pendidikan karakter melalui penanaman dan pengembangan pendidikan agama, agar peserta didik memiliki akhlak mulia yang dapat diaplikasikan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Meskipun dalam aspek input terdapat perbedaan, tetapi aspek proses, metode, dan output memiliki kesamaan, yakni sama-sama menerapkan proses pendidikan secara terpadu, terintegrasi, dan komprehensif, dengan menggunakan metode keteladanan dan pembiasaan, sehingga menghasilkan output yang sangat baik. Hal ini ditunjukkan antara lain oleh presentase kelulusan di kedua sekolah tersebut dalam kurun 6 tahun terakhir yang mencapai seratus persen..
