Abstract

Mathematical modeling is a bridge between mathematics and real problems that occur in students' lives. The introduction of mathematical modeling is an important agenda that must be given to high school students to optimize mathematical literacy and get used to solving problems with contextual problems. The selection of material contexts and relevant real-world problems is the initial key in teaching modeling. The selection of matrix material in the application of determining university criteria is an important consideration in introducing mathematical modeling in this study. This study used a qualitative approach involving a sample of 31 students of grade 11, MAN 1 Kota Bandung, West Java. Based on Galbraith & Holton's framework, this study evaluated the seven stages of modeling and found that students were able to understand and formulate the problem well, reaching an average score of 77.8%, but had difficulty in the interpretation and evaluation stages of the model with scores decreasing to around 60%. The use of decision-making matrices shows students' good ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-world contexts, although assistance is still needed to improve modeling skills.

Abstract

Blumea balsamifera is one of the Asteraceae family known as Sembung leaves. B. balsamifera is often used in traditional medicine. This study aims to evaluate the potential biological activity of Sembung leaves (Blumea balsamifera) through the determination of total tannin levels and toxicity tests using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. Leaf extraction is carried out by the maceration method using methanol solvent. The total tannin content was determined using the colorimetric method with the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent, resulting in a tannin content of 358.04 mg TAE/g of extract. The toxicity test showed an LC50 value of 56.58 μg/mL, which indicated that the methanol extract of B. balsamifera leaves was toxic. These results suggest that the high tannin content correlates with the toxicity properties of the extract, which has the potential to be further developed as a therapeutic agent.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of open systems theory in the management of human resources (HR) within a hospital setting. As complex and dynamic healthcare service organizations, hospitals are required to adapt to external changes such as regulations, technology, and patient expectations. The open systems approach introduced by Katz and Kahn (1978) emphasizes the importance of input, process, output, feedback, and environmental adaptation for organizational sustainability. This research employs a qualitative approach through a case study at Hospital X. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, and were analyzed using NVivo software to identify dominant themes. The findings reveal that all elements of the open systems model have been gradually implemented, indicated by demand-based recruitment, cross-unit training, periodic performance evaluations, and the hospital's ability to respond to external changes such as the pandemic and digital transformation. Thematic analysis shows that the five elements interact to form an adaptive and responsive HR management ecosystem. These findings reinforce the argument that a managerial system based on open systems theory enhances productivity, inter-unit coordination, and service quality. This study contributes theoretically to strengthening organizational systems in the healthcare sector and offers practical recommendations for hospital management to optimize HR processes through data, technology, and continuous evaluation.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the application of organizational structure theory within the context of public organizations, using a case study of the Provincial Mental Hospital of Bali. The research focuses on how organizational design, authority distribution systems, and both formal and informal power dynamics influence coordination effectiveness and the quality of mental health services. A qualitative descriptive approach with an intrinsic case study method was employed. Data were collected through document analysis, non-participant observation, and semi-structured interviews with five key informants from various managerial levels. The findings reveal that the organization’s classical bureaucratic structure, characterized by five hierarchical layers, tends to hinder decision-making processes and cause fragmentation in inter-unit collaboration. Moreover, informal power dynamics were found to often override formal command lines, thereby disrupting organizational cohesion and reducing operational effectiveness. Based on these findings, the study recommends a redesign of the organizational structure to be more adaptive, decentralized, and collaborative, in order to improve service performance—particularly in the mental health sector, which demands rapid response and a holistic approach. These results not only offer theoretical contributions to the development of public organization theory but also serve as a practical reference for institutional reform in mental health services at both local and national levels.

Abstract

Healthcare services are a vital component of social development, demanding effective, efficient, and adaptive organizational governance in response to changing environments. This study aims to analyze the contribution of organizational theories in enhancing the performance of healthcare service organizations, focusing on four key approaches: bureaucracy theory, open systems theory, contingency theory, and transformational leadership theory. This research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with a qualitative approach, conducted in a systematic, transparent, and replicable manner. Ten scholarly articles published between 2019 and 2024 were analyzed thematically to explore the relationships among theories, patterns of implementation, and their impact on the effectiveness of hospitals and community health centers (puskesmas). The results indicate that bureaucratic theory remains foundational in the structural arrangement of public hospitals, but must be complemented by flexibility to avoid hindering innovation. Open systems theory emphasizes the importance of integration across organizational units and responsiveness to external influences. Meanwhile, contingency theory highlights the necessity of aligning organizational structures and strategies with local contexts and resource capacities. Transformational leadership plays a crucial role in driving positive change, increasing staff participation, and fostering service innovation. This study concludes that integrating all four organizational approaches is essential to shaping a healthcare management model that is adaptive, collaborative, and oriented toward quality and sustainability. The findings serve as both conceptual and practical references for healthcare facility managers, policymakers, and scholars in the field of health management.

Abstract

This research discusses the establishment of the concept of corporate fault in the issue of criminal liability in the field of taxation in Indonesia. Specifically, this study focuses on the application of the theory of corporate criminal liability to tax offenses, with West Jakarta District Court Decision Number 334/Pid.Sus/2020/PN.Jkt BRT as the main object of analysis. This research employs a normative juridical approach with case study methodology. The research findings reveal that although the Law on General Provisions and Tax Procedures (UU KUP) does not expressly mention that corporations can be perpetrators of criminal offenses, in practice the court still applies criminal liability to corporations. This is possible due to the use of theories and doctrines in corporate criminal law, such as the doctrine of power requirements (machtsvereiste), the concept of normative guilt, and the teaching of benefits. These three doctrines have found their momentum in the new Criminal Code (Law Number 1 Year 2023), particularly in Article 48 which expressly regulates corporate criminal liability. The application of this article will officially begin on January 2, 2026, providing a clearer legal foundation for the enforcement of criminal law against corporations in the future. The main contribution of this research is to provide a deeper understanding of the principle of legality and corporate criminal liability procedures in taxation issues. Not only that, the results of this research are also important as a reference for the development of corporate criminal law in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to numerically analyze the distribution of axial and radial magnetic fields in a finite solenoid using MATLAB software. The simulation is based on classical magnetic field theory, particularly the Biot–Savart law, along with Pathak's analytical approach for modeling the radial field component. The primary focus is to understand the magnetic field behavior around a solenoid of finite length, which is commonly used in various electromagnetic applications. The simulation results reveal that the axial magnetic field remains relatively uniform within the central region of the solenoid but decreases significantly near its ends due to the fringe field effect. Meanwhile, the radial magnetic field outside the solenoid exhibits an exponential decay with increasing radial distance from the axis, consistent with the behavior of a magnetic dipole field. These findings offer preliminary validation of the theoretical models applied in the simulation while emphasizing the need for further experimental verification. This research is expected to contribute to the design, development, and optimization of experimental devices involving finite solenoids, particularly in applied physics and electromagnetic engineering contexts.
