Abstract

 After the opening of the Suez Canal in the early twentieth century, Muslims in the archipelago massively carried out pilgrimage (Hajj) as well as deepening religious knowledge in Mecca and Medina. This had an impact on the emergence of Muslim clerics (ulama) from the archipelago who took part in both cities and returned to their homeland. These ulama are scholarly interconnected, when they were studying in the holy land and doing missionary (da'wah) in their hometowns. This article reveals the history of intellectual genealogy of the twentieth century of Bugis scholars in the districts of Bulukumba and Bantaeng, South Sulawesi. This study uses a historical approach and the data collected through interview, documentation, and observation. The results showed that, first, the history of intellectual genealogy of Muslim scholars in the early twentieth century in Bulukumba and Bantaeng was formed when the socio-political dynamics of the Middle East in 1920 over the victory of Ibn Saud became a revival symbol for the Wahabi group impacted by the arrival of the Ahlul Sunnah wal Jamaah scholars to the Archipelago. The return of the knowledge seekers had a positive impact on the development of the transmission of religious knowledge to local people who wanted to gain knowledge from these scholars. Second, the figures of the early twentieth century scholars in Bulukumba and Bantaeng eventually formed intellectual geneology between teacher and pupil. The transfer of religious knowledge at that time was carried out at variety of venues: houses, mosques (mushala) which also functioned as a place of worship and for the learning process.

Abstract

The character of students should be able to describe the implementation of the educational process. However, so far, the educational process has emphasized more knowledge orientation than character building. It is reflected in the pride of almost every educational institution if its students succeed in achieving a high National Exam or UAN Final Score. This orientation is supported by the growth and development of tutoring institutions, private lessons, study groups, or teacher rooms. This condition triggers a real thought and action to restore the primary function of education as character building. One model of strengthening character education is through the community of Sekolah Perjumpaan in West Nusa Tenggara. This research is qualitative research with a case study approach. The subjects of this study were student participants in the Sekolah Perjumpaan in West Nusa Tenggara. This research was conducted at the community point of Sekolah Perjumpaan in Bangket Bilong Village, Midang, Mantang, and at the initiator of the Sekolah Perjumpaan. This study found that the Sekolah Perjumpaan is a model of strengthening character education, positioning students as subject to subject, and awakening students to fulfill each participant's obligations as complementary beings collectively. Thus, the character education model of the Sekolah Perjumpaan can be applied in other educational institutions.

Abstract

The use of a dwelling house as a place for public worship/church has been created conflict among believers. This is happened in a village called Ngawen, Mangunsari, Salatiga. This study aims to explore the triggering factors of conflict between the Muslim community and the board of Gereja Kristen Injili Nusantara (GKIN) “Kawanan Domba”. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data were gathered using a Focus Group Discussion approach. Findings of this study show that such house was built based on the IMB of dwelling place; the board of church has no temporary authorization to use that house as a place of worship. The community objects and indisposed for the existence of a church due to various reasons. This almost leads to a physical conflict. The government officers mediate two conflicting parties to meet and resolve the problem. This meeting made an agreement between them that the activities of the church were stopped. But in reality, the church still conducted some activities

Abstract

The principal at madrasah in the education system has a very important role as a determinant of whether a school is progressing or not. This study specifically aims to determine the madrasa school leadership model at MAN and MA Qasim Al Hadi in Semarang. The research on the two madrasah model includes qualitative research, which takes the research locus of public and private Madrasah Aliyah. The results showed that the MAN Semarang in leadership adheres to a bureaucratic democratic system of democracy. This means that everything is done in accordance with standard operating procedures with modern management. While the leadership model at MA Qasim Al Hadi, the education system is strongly influenced by the central figure who has been appointed by the foundation as the head of the school (kiai). It is the figure of the kiai who spurs all movements in the educational process. Implementatively, the leadership model of the Head of MA Qosim Al Hadi can be seen from his personality and democratic character. Apart from being based on personality type, it also depends on the status of the madrasa (private). Thus the leadership model of MA Qosim Al Hadi can be said to be a charismatic leadership pattern.

Abstract

The phenomenon of hoaxes as fake news is mostly constructed through social media in this era. The sites that produce and spread hoaxes or fake news are relatively high in several big cities in Indonesia, especially Bandung, the capital of West Java. A large number of false reports have made the public uneasy. The hoax news is not only consumed by the general public but also among universities. This study aims to determine how the hoax model spread among Muslim students in Islamic universities in Bandung. This research uses a qualitative approach. The data was collected by applying in-depth interviews and documentation studies to explore the focus of the research. This study found several facts, namely: first, most of the students often received hoaxes, even some students had also been hoax makers and spreaders. Second, the spread of hoaxes is carried out through social media in line with information technology development. Third, there are 3 (three) patterns of hoax spreading among Islamic university students, namely (1) the pattern of cyclization or distribution carried out within certain groups; (2) general public distribution patterns; (3) a break pattern, in which the dissemination of information stops to the authorities. Besides, the campus needs support in strengthening digital literacy practices and comprehensive verification (tabayun) efforts for students, and serious handling of the government.

Abstract

Teachers play important roles in the success of the performance of school / madrasah. Teacher performance reflects the professionalism of teachers in performing their duties to achieve the educational goals. Teacher performance is influenced by several factors, both internal and external, the head master’s leadership style and teacher motivation are important variables among other factors that can affect the performance of teachers. Problems of this study are; (1) the influence of the headmaster’s leadership style on teacher performance, (2) the influence of motivation to work on teacher performance, (3) the influence of the head-master’s leadership style and motivation to work on teacher performance at Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Kaliwungu sub disctric, Kudus. Population of this gresearch are 241 teachers of Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Kaliwungu sub district Kudus, and there are 150 selected teachers as the sample. The selection is used proportional random sampling method. Data was gathered through questioner. SPSS for Windows Version 16 is applied to analyze validity and reliability of the instrument, and data (regression and lutiple regression). The results show that (1) the head-master’s leadership styles have strong influence on the teacher performance (69.3%), (2) teachers’ motivation has strong on teacher performance (72.7%), (3) the headmaster leadership style and motivation have strong influence on the performance of teachers Madrasah Tsanwiyah in Kaliwungu sub-district, Kudus (77.9%).

Abstract

After the formation of “Kabinet Kerja” (Working Cabinet) during the reign of President Joko Widodo, Minister of Home Affairs, Tjahjo Kumolo expressed the idea of emptying the religious column on Identity Card (KTP) for faith followers (penganut kepercayaan). The idea has been getting a fairly diverse response from various circles either pros or cons. This study seeks to deeply explore that issue by using the ‘Critical Discourse Analysis’ method. It was conducted on print, on-line, and social media published in November 2014. The research findings show that first, the media attention, Republika as an Islamic-based daily newspaper is fairly high in responding to the issue (47%), Kompas 29%, Suara Merdeka 15%, social media (facebook) 7%, and Jawa Pos 2%. This data shows that Jawa Pos considers ‘Isu KTP’ (ID Card Issue)’ is not interesting. Second, the audience attitudes show that 61% rejected the removal of religious column (cons) then 17% supported (pros), and 22% (unclear). After a very long process, approximately 3 years, the faith believer (penganut kepercayaan) in Indonesia is recognized by the state by the decision of the Constitutional Court (Mahkamah Konstitusi) on November 7, 2017. The religious column on ID Card for faith believers (penganut kepercayaan) can be filled with “Penghayat Kepercayaan”.

Abstract

Religious education encompasses two dimensions of human life, namely the cultivation of piety towards God and the development of sense of humanity towards others, or ritual and social piety. But in reality, these two things in education are less integrated so that they become dichotomy and even gap between ritual and social piety. This study is quantitative which aims at measuring and analyzing ritual and social piety of high school Muslim students in the ex-Surakarta Residency based on their gender. The assumption built in this study is that Islamic Education in schools is able to give birth to ritual and social piety of their students. There are two research questions: first, what is the category of ritual and social piety of high school Muslim students at the ex-Surakarta Residency?. Second, what is the difference between ritual and social piety of high school Muslim students at the ex-Surakarta Residency based on their gender?. The null hypothesis (H0) built in this study is: there is no difference between ritual and social piety of male and female Muslim students. By using descriptive analysis and ANOVA test, this study found two things; first, ritual and social piety of high school Muslim students in the ex-Surakarta Residency are good. Second, there is no difference between ritual and social piety in male high school Muslim students. There is difference in ritual and social piety of female students and also difference in ritual and social piety of male and female high school Muslim students in the exSurakarta Residency.

Abstract

Students are vulnerable to experiencing many problems that negatively impact their quality of life. Due to this issue, it is needed the mental strength and high resilience to make their dreams come true. However, students who have strong religiosity, their perception and conception of life are strongly influenced by their religious belief systems. Training to change attitude and to develop motivation is therefore very important. This study attempted to look at the effectiveness of Islamic-based adversity intelligence training to improve new students’ resilience of State Islamic University (UIN) Antasari Banjarmasin. This study used the experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Data were analyzed with quantitative descriptive analysis (QDA). The effectiveness of training was measured by comparing the results of the resilience level scores before and after training (pretest-posttest) using the Wilcoxon test analysis through SPSS version 16.0. The results showed that Islamic-based adversity intelligence training is very effective to improve new students’ resilience.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami proses internalisasi nilai-nilai karakter bangsa melalui mata pelajaran Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI). Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif model CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) penelitian ini menghasilkan empat temuan, yaitu: (1) secara konteks, strategi penanaman nilai-nilai karakter bangsa melalui mata pelajaran agama dilakukan melalui kebijakan kepala sekolah, sistem sekolah, kualitas sarana dan prasarana, serta iklim dan budaya yang mendukung internalisasi pendidikan karakter di sekolah; (2) secara input, internalisasi nilai-nilai karakter bangsa telah dilakukan melalui kualifikasi dan kompetensi guru, input sarana dan prasarana, serta kualifikasi peserta didik; (3) proses internalisasi nilai-nilai karakter bangsa dilakukan melalui kurikulum PAI berupa kegiatan intrakurikuler, kegiatan ekstrakurikuler,  dan pembiasaan sekolah; (4) produk yang dihasilkan dari internalisasi  nilai-nilai karakter bangsa melalui PAI adalah peserta didik yang kompeten dan memiliki karakter yang baik.Kata kunci: Internalisasi, Nilai-nilai Karakter, CIPP, SMA eks-RSBI
