SETARA: Jurnal Studi Gender dan Anak aims to promote scientific publication concern on Gender, Islam, and Social Inclusion, including children’s right protections in its broadest sense covering textual, historical and empirical aspects, both classical/medieval, modern and contemporary periods in the Islamic World and beyond. The journal strives to include significant studies of gender theory and methodology as well as topical matter. This journal encompasses original research articles based on library and/or empirical research and current book reviews in the field of gender and Islam especially on, but not limited to, eight main topics: (1) Gender and Religious Texts (2) Gender and Islamic Law (3) Gender and educations (4) Gender and politics (5) Gender and Economic (6) Gender and Digital humanities, (7) Gender and social inclusion and (8) Children’s right protection It encourages articles that employ a multi-disciplinary approach to those topics. Scholars from any countries and region that are concerned with gender and social inclusion and its manifestation throughout Muslim community can submit their article to SETARA and use this open access journal.

Abstract

Persoalan gender di Indonesia menjadi diskursus panjang sepanjang manusia ada. Gender yang seringkali dianggap mendiskriminasikan seorang perempuan menjadi perbincangan hangat dalam ranah keluarga saat ini yakni poligami. Praktek poligami dalam ketidak adilan gender menjadi isu terhangat untuk selalu diperbincangkan. Kerap kali poligami disalahartikan dengan argumen bahwa Nabi menganjurkan poligami. Tidak, Nabi Muhammad SAW. berpoligami bukan karena libido seksual yang saat ini dijadikan sebagai alasan agar tidak terjatuh zina. Sehingga adanya poligami yang disalahpahami menciptakan ketidakadilan terhadap perempuan atau kesalahan yang sangat fatal utamanya gangguan psikologi sang anak yang sangat terganggu, selain itu dampak sosial yang sangat merusak citra orang berpoligami. Tujuan tulisan ini untuk membongkar eksistensi praktek poligami dari sejak pra Islam hingga saat ini. Adapun metode penulisan ini dengan menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif. yaitu penulis berusaha menganalisis makna penting dari poligami dengan pendekatan historis dalam rangka menjelaskan praktek poligami pra Islam hingga saat ini.

Abstract

The research departs from the phenomenon of gender stereotypes where male teachers teaching dance education in formal schools are considered uncommon and give the impression of being less masculine. The research aims to find out what gender stereotypes are in the dance arts teaching profession in a formal school environment. In order to approach the research problem, Husserl's phenomenological theory was used. The method used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques and sources through relevant literature studies which are analyzed comprehensively and empirically. The research results concluded that to avoid discrimination against gender stereotypes, there needs to be wider awareness and understanding of gender in society. Apart from that, the role of male dance education teachers in the formal education environment has a big role because it can be a motivation for students that dance education does not affect a man's masculinity if it is carried out professionally and appropriately.

Abstract

Artikel ini membagikan beberapa pelajaran dari praktik baik yang dilakukan oleh tiga komunitas, Perhimpunan Rahima, Aliansi Laki-Laki Baru dan Rifka Anisa Yogyakarta. Kajian ini merupakan hasil observasi terhadap proses pendampingan pegawai KUA yang dilakukan Rahima dan olah dokumen terhadap dokumentasi kegiatan dan aktifitas Rifka Anisa dan Aliansi Laki-Laki Baru. Data-data penelitian ini didukung dengan wawancara, dan focus group discussion. Tulisan ini berargumen bahwa pelibatan laki-laki dalam membangun relasi setara dalam keluarga penting karena laki-laki adalah aktor dalam relasi keluarga. Laki-laki sama halnya dengan perempuan memiliki peran strategis untuk secara bersama-sama menjadi mitra yang lebih egaliter dan berkeadilan. Tulisan ini juga menjelaskan piliha-pilihan strategi dan pendekatan pendampingan yang berhasil mengubah cara pandang laki-laki terhadap diri dan maskulinitasnya dari maskulinitas hegemonic menjadi maskulinitas positif.

Abstract

The Shafi'i school of thought is widely followed in Indonesia, evident in both the framework of the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) and Marriage Law No. 1 of 1974, which extensively references the texts of this school. Within the teachings of the Shafi'i madhhab, the approval of women lies in the hands of a guardian or father, even permitting the marriage of women without their consent, except for widows, for whom the consent of the concerned party is required. However, this contrasts with Articles 16 and 17 of the KHI, emphasizing the significance of the consent of all parties involved. Interestingly, this is also supported by on-the-ground realities that prioritize the consent of all parties in conducting marriages, as observed in the Customary Village of Cireundeu, Cimahi City, West Java, and the region of Dalam Pagar Martapura-Hulu Sungai Tengah, South Kalimantan, which allows women to explicitly declare their willingness and consent to marriage. This article aims to examine how the practical application of the Shafi'i madhhab's stance on women's marriage consent aligns with legal frameworks and the observed gender dynamics. The article can be categorized as field research with a qualitative analysis approach, grounded in relevant literature studies related to the discussion.. Ultimately, while the Shafi'i madhhab is widely adopted by the Indonesian populace, it undergoes adaptation to the contemporary circumstances and cultural context in Indonesia, thus representing a synthesis of the Shafi'i madhhab and the indigenous Nusantara traditions. Begitu pula dalam corak KHI (Kompilasi Hukum Islam) dan Undang-Undang Pernikahan No. 1 Tahun 1974 yang referensinya banyak menggunakan kitab dari madzhab tersebut. Dalam ajaran madzhab Syafi’i, persetujuan perempuan ada di tangan wali atau bapak, bahkan diperbolehkan menikahkan perempuan tanpa seizinnya, kecuali untuk janda, harus ada persetujuan dari yang bersangkutan. Namun berbeda dengan pasal 16 dan 17 KHI yang menegaskan pentingnya persetujuan para pihak. Menariknya, hal ini juga didukung dengan fakta di lapangan yang mengedepankan persetujuan para pihak dalam melaksanakan pernikahan, seperti di Kampung Adat Cireundeu Kota Cimahi Jawa Barat dan daerah Dalam Pagar Martapura-Hulu Sungai Tengah Kalimantan Selatan yang memberi ruang bagi perempuan untuk secara tegas menyatakan diri atas kesediaan dan persetujuannya untuk melakukan pernikahan. Artikel ini akan melihat bagaimana posisi realitas ajaran madzhab Syafi’i tentang persetujuan perempuan menikah pada produk hukum dan realita yang terjadi dalam kacamata gender. Artikel ini dapat dikategorikan sebagai penelitian lapangan dengan analisis kualitatif berdasarkan studi pustaka yang berkaitan dengan pembahasan. Akhirnya, madzhab Syafi’i menjadi madzhab yang banyak dipakai oleh masyarakat Indonesia, namun disesuaikan dengan keadaan zaman dan budaya yang ada di Indonesia itu sendiri, sehingga madzhab Syafi’i yang ada di Indonesia adalah hasil dari ramuan Nusantara. Abstract

The absence of a father in the parenting process has resulted in several negative impacts and the emergence of various psychological problems. The institutionalization of gender roles within the family, promoted by patriarchal culture, is identified as one of the factors contributing to the lack of involvement of fathers in child-rearing. This research aims to explore and analyze the role of fathers in educating their children, as depicted in the teachings of the Quran.The research methodology employed involves textual analysis of Quranic verses related to the father's role in the context of child education. Utilizing a psychological approach focusing on dimensions of paternal interaction, paternal accessibility, and paternal responsibility, various roles that fathers can assume in educating their children are identified. These roles encompass the father's duty to impart religious knowledge, provide early education, and deliver sexual education. The Quran consistently emphasizes the pivotal role of fathers in shaping the character and morality of their children. Verses within the Quran address aspects such as guidance, exemplary behavior, responsibility, and supportive educational companionship. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the father's role in child education from the perspective of the Quran.The practical implications of this research underscore the importance of implementing values derived from the Quran in the father's parenting style. It is hoped that such implementation will provide a strong foundation for the well-rounded and high-quality character formation of children. Keywords: Thematic Interpretation, Fatherless, Father's Role Abstrak Ketidakhadiran ayah dalam proses pengasuhan telah menimbulkan beberapa dampak buruk dan munculnya beberapa masalah psikologis. Pembakuan peran laki-laki dan perempuan dalam keluarga yang dipromosikan oleh budaya patriarki menjadi salah satu faktor tidak terlibatnya laki-laki dalam pengasuhan anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali dan menganalisis peran ayah dalam mendidik anak, sebagaimana tergambar dalam ajaran Al-Quran. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah analisis tekstual terhadap ayat-ayat Al-Quran yang berkaitan dengan peran ayah dalam konteks pendidikan anak. Dengan pendekatan psikologi mengenai dimensi mendidik anak: paternal interaction, paternal accesibility, dan paternal responsibility maka terdapat peran-peran yang ayah dapat lakukan untuk mendidik anak. Pertama peran ayah untuk mengajarkan ilmu agama, kedua peran ayah untuk memberikan pendidikan sejak dini, ketiga peran ayah untuk memberikan pendidikan seksual. Al-Quran secara konsisten juga telah menekankan pentingnya peran ayah dalam membentuk karakter dan moralitas anak-anak. Ayat-ayat tersebut mencakup aspek-aspek seperti bimbingan, keteladanan, tanggung jawab, dan pendampingan yang bersifat edukatif. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap pemahaman lebih lanjut tentang peran ayah dalam pendidikan anak menurut perspektif Al-Quran. Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of teacher exemplarity in enhancing the understanding of moral values and gender equality among high-level Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students. The research method employed was qualitative research with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with Madrasah teachers in high-level classes and participatory observations of teacher-student interactions in the classroom. The research findings indicate that teacher exemplarity significantly influences students' understanding of moral values and gender equality. Teachers who serve as examples through ethical behavior and respect for gender equality inspire students to internalize these values in their daily lives. Moreover, teacher exemplarity facilitates open dialogues on moral and gender equality issues in the classroom, aiding students in gaining a deeper understanding of these concepts. This research provides essential insights into how the teacher exemplarity approach can be used as an effective strategy to enhance students' understanding of moral values and gender equality in Madrasah education. The practical implications of this study underscore the importance of teachers as positive role models in shaping students' characters and promoting gender equality in the context of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah education at the higher level. Keywords: Gender Equality, Teacher Exemplarity, Moral Values, Madrasah Students Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran keteladanan guru dalam meningkatkan pemahaman nilai moral dan kesetaraan gender pada siswa Madrasah Ibtidaiyah kelas tinggi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan guru Madrasah di kelas tinggi dan observasi partisipatif terhadap interaksi guru-siswa di kelas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keteladanan guru memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan dalam membentuk pemahaman siswa tentang nilai moral dan kesetaraan gender. Guru yang menjadi teladan dalam perilaku etis dan penghormatan terhadap kesetaraan gender dapat menginspirasi siswa untuk menginternalisasi nilai-nilai tersebut dalam kehidupan sehari-hari mereka. Selain itu, keteladanan guru juga memfasilitasi dialog terbuka tentang isu-isu moral dan kesetaraan gender di kelas, membantu siswa dalam memahami konsep-konsep ini secara lebih mendalam. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan yang penting tentang bagaimana pendekatan keteladanan guru dapat digunakan sebagai strategi efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman nilai moral dan kesetaraan gender pada siswa Madrasah. Implikasi praktis dari penelitian ini adalah pentingnya peran guru sebagai model yang baik dalam membentuk karakter siswa dan mempromosikan kesetaraan gender dalam konteks pendidikan Madrasah Ibtidaiyah di kelas tinggi. Abstract

Social media is not only a means of information, but it has become a propaganda tool to spread certain ideas, including the idea of peace. This is one of the agendas of the Srikandi Lintas Iman (SRILI) community, a community that originated from the concern of women from different faiths in Yogyakarta to sit together, share and exchange ideas and programs to manage religious and socio-cultural diversity. This research aims to determine the role of the Srikandi Lintas Iman Instagram account in constructing the meaning of peace in the digital space. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, with the analysis of diffusion of innovation theory. The results show that through the @srilijogja Instagram account, SRILI provides new knowledge for the public about the meaning of peace. The consistency of SRILI in voicing these ideas over time has influenced the public to make decisions in responding to diversity. The innovation in the form of the meaning of peace was then accepted by the public because of the similarity of vision and mission among SRILI members. This proves that social media plays an important role in the process of disseminating innovations in the form of ideas, concepts, or practices of peace that are loaded with values of religious moderation, tolerance, and inclusiveness in the midst of Indonesia's diverse society. Keywords: Peace, Srikandi Lintas Iman, Social Media Abstrak Media sosial tidak hanya sekadar menjadi media informasi, namun sudah menjadi alat propaganda untuk menyebarkan gagasan tertentu, termasuk gagasan perdamaian. Hal ini menjadi salah satu agenda komunitas Srikandi Lintas Iman (SRILI), komunitas yang berawal dari rasa kepedulian perempuan-perempuan lintas iman Yogyakarta untuk duduk bersama, berbagi dan bertukar gagasan serta program untuk mengelola keberagaman agama dan sosial budaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran akun instagram Srikandi Lintas Iman dalam mengkonstruksi makna perdamaian di ruang digital. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif, dengan analisis teori difusi inovasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa melalui akun instagram @srilijogja memberikan sebuah pengetahuan baru bagi masyarakat akan makna sebuah perdamaian. Konsistensi SRILI dalam menyuarakan gagasan tersebut seiring berjalannya waktu mampu memengaruhi masyarakat untuk mengambil keputusan dalam menyikapi keberagaman. Inovasi berupa makna perdamaian ini kemudian diterima oleh masyarakat karena adanya kesamaan visi misi di antara anggota SRILI. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa media sosial memegang peran penting dalam proses penyebaran inovasi berupa gagasan, konsep, atau praktik perdamaian yang bermuatan nilai moderasi beragama, toleransi, dan inklusif di tengah keberagaman masyarakat Indonesia. Abstract

One of the widely discussed issues on Islamic websites is gender interpretation, as the gender narrative has been polarized since the inception of this issue. Utilizing qualitative methodology, this research will employ the theory of Muslim public space to analyze the patterns of Islamic media contestation focusing on gender interpretation, namely muslimahnews.net and bincangmuslimah.com. New media theory is utilized to analyze the shift in patterns of religious authority from traditional to impersonal media. The research findings conclude that muslimahnews.net constructs a pattern of religious authority as a populist media with three prominent narratives: the oppression of women due to the regime, a purification narrative calling for women to return to fitrah, and an anti-authoritarian narrative urging women to resist policies contradicting Islamic law. Meanwhile, bincangmuslimah.com constructs a pattern of religious authority as a moderate media that prioritizes values of tolerance, national commitment, and anti-violence by considering equality for men and women as a counter-narrative to narratives oppressing women's authority. The shift in patterns of religious authority from traditional to impersonal media reinforces the polarization of Islamic groups, thus necessitating a joint commitment to converge religious authority through the spirit of religious moderation while remaining steadfast in their respective orientations. Abstract

The case of sexual violence against women has sharply increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. Discourses on justice and gender equality have been extensively voiced by Muslim feminists to combat sexual violence against women. The aim of this research is to explicate the liberation hermeneutics advocated by Farid Esack as a foundation for practical realization of gender equality in cases of sexual violence. Farid Esack's hermeneutics seeks to engage in dialogue and bridge the gap between the text of the Qur'an and the context in which its verses are understood, which are then interpreted progressively to become drivers of anti-oppression spirit against women. This study employs a literature review methodology with qualitative analysis, utilizing an analytical-historical approach to data presentation. Furthermore, the collected data are analyzed through the key theoretical approach of Farid Esack's hermeneutics, particularly focusing on the keys of jihad, and then elaborated within the context of the struggle for gender equality in Indonesia. The results reveal that the concepts of gender equality in the Qur'an give rise to various action-practice measures in addressing cases of sexual violence in Indonesia: Firstly, male feminist activists are engaged in advocating for gender justice in addressing cases of sexual violence against women. Secondly, efforts are made to enact laws as legal frameworks governing policies to protect women from cases of sexual violence, such as the Sexual Violence Criminal Act (UU-TPKS) along with its derivative laws and supervision. Thirdly, the role of women's protection advocacy institutions accompanies victims of sexual violence, providing support for their recovery and ensuring their legal rights to be protected. Abstract

The issue of gender equality is mainly reflected in terms of access to opportunities and possibilities, participation in decision-making processes, control of resources and benefits from agricultural development outcomes. Women's traditional rights, including children's rights, are not diminished due to the utilization of agricultural natural resources and their products. Equality of access of women and men to information on the use of capital, agricultural facilities and infrastructure must also continue to be fought. The purpose of writing this article is to analyze the concept of gender in wages and the division of agricultural labor and the role of women in agricultural development. Using literature study research, in the form of a series of activities related to library data collection methods, reading and recording, and managing research materials. Data collection comes from textbooks, national and international online journals, scientific articles, literature reviews containing the concept of gender in agricultural development. The results showed that development in agriculture, the role of women tends to be less meaningful and gender inequality occurs. This also applies to agriculture, where women are given "feminine" work that requires accuracy, patience and is not too heavy. Keywords: Gender Equality, Development, Agriculture Abstrak Isu kesetaraan gender terutama tercermin dalam hal akses terhadap peluang dan kemungkinan, partisipasi dalam proses pengambilan keputusan, penguasaan sumber daya dan manfaat dari hasil pembangunan pertanian. Hak-hak tradisional perempuan, termasuk hak anak-anak, tidak berkurang karena pemanfaatan sumber daya alam pertanian dan produk-produknya. Kesetaraan akses perempuan dan laki-laki terhadap informasi penggunaan modal, sarana dan prasarana pertanian juga harus terus diperjuangkan. Tujuan penulisan artikel ini adalah untuk menganalisis konsep gender dalam pengupahan dan pembagian kerja pertanian dan peran perempuan dalam pembangunan pertanian. Menggunakan penelitian studi kepustakaan, berupa serangkaian kegiatan yang berkenaan dengan metode pengumpulan data pustaka, membaca dan mencatat, serta mengelola bahan penelitian. Pengumpulan data berasal dari textbook, jurnal online nasional dan internasional, artikel ilmiah, literature review yang berisikan tentang konsep gender dalam pembangunan pertanian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pembangunan dalam bidang pertanian, peran perempuan cenderung kurang berarti dan terjadi ketidaksetaraan gender. Hal ini juga berlaku pula di pertanian, dimana perempuan diberi jatah pekerjaan yang bersifat feminim yang membutuhkan ketelitian, kesabaran dan tidak terlalu berat.
