Abstract

Blasphemy is a significant and sensitive topic in the news, prompting mass media to allocate coverage to religious issues. This study utilizes qualitative methods, employing the framing model analysis of William A. Gamson and Andre Modigliani. The objective is to examine news concerning alleged blasphemy cases involving Panji Gumilang, the head of Al-Zaytun ponpes, as reported by Republika and Detik during the period from July to August 2023. Researchers scrutinized six news articles, three from Republika and three from Detik. The findings reveal that both Republika and Detik distinctly highlight ongoing investigations by law authorities into the blasphemy case attributed to Panji Gumilang. Republika's coverage primarily focuses on evidence exploration to gather information, reinforcing the report on the alleged blasphemy case for a smoother legal process and justice. In contrast, Detik examines the societal influence and impact of the blasphemy case. Meanwhile, Detik discussed the influence and impact of this blasphemy case on society. The reason for choosing the two media is because both have different backgrounds, Republika is a media born from the Muslim community that is more in-depth in news related to Islamic religious issues while Detik is a popular media whose reporting is neutral.

Abstract

Final-year students will experience a transition period from lectures to the world of work. The transition period can be challenging for final students. Unpreparedness in facing the transition period can cause various difficulties for final year students, such as unemployment, turnover, and working in inappropriate fields. In addition, students are in the early adult stage of development and are required to start working and develop their careers. This study aims to determine the relationship between social support and career adaptability by controlling for demographic variables, namely gender, educational background, and socioeconomic status in final-year students. This study used a quantitative approach involving 274 respondents. Data analysis using multiple regression analysis showed that social support (family support, friend support, and significant other support) positively affected career adaptability. Educational background also has a positive influence on career adaptability. Gender and socioeconomic status did not influence career adaptability.

Abstract

This study aimed to gather information from the literature regarding the role of social media in tobacco control among adolescents and young adults, both domestically and internationally. The study utilized a literature review from articles on Google Scholar and PubMed published between 2019 and 2023. Inclusion criteria encompassed open-access articles related to interventions using social media to control tobacco consumption among adolescents and young adults, excluding modeling studies. Intervention outcomes were assessed and extracted in narrative form. Fourteen articles met the inclusion criteria (11 original research articles and 3 articles with secondary data). Research designs in the original research articles included Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) and in-depth interviews. Studies utilizing WeChat and WhatsApp demonstrated favorable intervention outcomes in delivering tobacco control messages. Peer mentoring through Instagram was also considered easily accessible for adolescents. Other social media platforms facilitating global discussions, such as Twitter, can enhance public literacy on electronic cigarettes and facilitate the implementation of electronic cigarette policies. Social media interventions in tobacco control are more readily accepted by adolescents, easily accessible, cost-effective, and provide post-intervention social support. The presence of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and message-writing techniques on social media should be considered in health promotion. Research on public perceptions of tobacco control messages delivered by KOLs could be considered for further studies.
