Abstract

This article attempts to describe using drama to teach students of English classroom. Drama can be one source and effective way to assist students learns English. It uses active teaching and learning activities in the classroom which are likely can motivate and engage the attention of the students. Teaching English using drama is not easy. Drama classroom activities can include role-play, drama games, improvisation, group discussion and individual or pair work. Therefore, teaching English using drama needs serious attention from the lecturer. This article focuses on how to teach English with drama. It is expected that this strategy will give significant improvement on students’ achievement in mastering English language skills.

Abstract

Language style can be found in any form such as in daily conversation, magazine, newspaper, short story, novel, etc. Language style may refer to the writing style used by the author or writer as the way or technique chosen upon sentence structure, word choice, and tone. This study took novel entitled The Maze Runner as the source of data. The objective of conducting this study was to analyze the language styles used in the dialogue of the novel. There were 260 pages in total. The data collection was limited only from page 1 to 100. The design used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The data were collected by reading the novel, analyzed the types of language style, and tabulated the obtained data. The steps used to analyze the data such as identified, listed, and classified the types of language style, counted the percentage, obtained the dominant language styles, described the findings, and displayed data in table. There were 126 dialogues which were analyzed. The findings showed that there were 4 types of language style used in the dialogue. They were colloquial, casual, slang, and consultative style. The percentage obtained such as colloquial style with 55 or 44%, casual style with 37 or 29.36%, slang style with 27 or 21.42%, and consultative style with 7 or 5.5%. From this percentage, it was obvious that the most dominant style used by the author of the novel was colloquial style.

Abstract

This article describes how demonstration method can be used to teach writing procedures text for students in English subject. Demonstration method applies creative and active teaching process that can motivate students to engage the learning process. Teaching English in writing procedures text is not easy. Demonstration method activities require the teachers to perform a demonstration of a process to make or create something. Therefore, teaching writing procedure text in English using demonstration method needs preparation. It is expected that this method can be a suitable method for teachers and students in mastering writing procedure text in English.

Abstract

This article describes a brief description about writing, approach, genre, and writing genre. There are many classification of writing genres. The big genre category falls into fictional genre and non-fictional genre. There are more specific categories of writing genre as taken from many resources. It is expected that the readers of this article will be able to grasp understanding about writing and its genre in order to become a good reader or writer.

Abstract

This mini research was conducted with the objective to prove the effect of using interactive PowerPoint on students’ English vocabulary mastery at junior high school. Experimental research design was applied as the research method. The total population was 80 students of the eighth grade students. Cluster random sampling was applied to take out the sample. 80 students were taken as the sample from. The classes were determined as experimental group and control group. Each class consisted of 40 students. A set of test consisted of 35 multiple choice test was administered as research instrument. T-test was applied to analyze the data obtained. The data analysis resulted that t-test value was higher than t-table. This proved that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Thus, it was concluded that interactive PowerPoint gave effect on students’ English vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

Some teachers may not proficient in teaching pronunciation. Mostly they tend to prioritize the reading, grammar, or writing over pronunciation practice. It results the students' ability to pronounce words are low and they struggle to pronounce the words provided by the teacher correctly. This article aims to assist teachers in pronunciation class by utilizing English songs as the media. English songs can be employed to all levels. It is hoped that by employing English songs in the teaching and learning process of pronunciation, the students will be able to enhance their pronunciation in enjoyable way.

Abstract

This article describes the concept of using buzz group in classroom to enhance cooperation among students. Buzz group can be alternative method employed by educators (teachers or lecturers) to maximize small group work classroom activity. Buzz group can be applied by students to solve problems given during learning activities. By using buzz group, it is expected that each students has chance to share information each other in a small group work. Thus, the students can be acknowledged for their individual and group strength when they explore a topic given in a limited time.

Abstract

This study intends to examine the scientific article about the phenomenon of hate speech in pandemic era in Indonesia from forensic linguistics view. By using a meta-analysis technique on Google Schoolar, an official website intended as a collection of scientific articles in Indonesia. A total of 150 articles were accessed from Google Scholar. To assure the review's focus, a selection process for inclusion and exclusion criteria was carried out before it began. There are 20 eligible articles to be reviewed. Findings showed that most of the researchers used social media as the source of data, most of the researchers used the theory of speech act to analyse the data.

Abstract

In response to the increasing demand for effective English language communication skills in the pharmaceutical domain, this study explores the integration of digital tools within pharmacy education programs. The globalized nature of the pharmaceutical industry necessitates a thorough examination of innovative strategies to enhance language proficiency among students. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines quantitative assessments and qualitative analyses to investigate the impact of various digital tools on language learning outcomes, student engagement, and the practical application of acquired skills.The quantitative component involves evaluating language proficiency levels through surveys and assessments, providing a quantitative measure of the effectiveness of digital tools. Concurrently, qualitative analyses, including interviews and focus group discussions, aim to uncover insights into learner experiences, preferences, and the challenges associated with integrating digital tools into language learning curricula within pharmacy education programs. The study's significance lies in its potential to inform educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers about the benefits of leveraging digital tools for English language learning in pharmacy education. By tailoring strategies to enhance communication skills, the research seeks to prepare future pharmacy professionals to navigate the diverse linguistic landscape of the pharmaceutical industry. The findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on innovative teaching methodologies, providing actionable insights for stakeholders committed to fostering language proficiency and effective communication in pharmacy education programs.
