The population of this study was the students of the tenth grade SMA Al Washliyah 07 Sei Rampah which had two parallel classes, namely X-1 and X-2. Each class consisted of 30 students. So, the total population was 60 students. In drawing the sample, Cluster Sampling Technique by applying Picker Wheel Technique was used in this research. After carrying out the Picker Wheel Technique, X-2 was selected as the experimental class and X-1 was selected as the control class. The experiment class was taught by using PQRST Strategy by applying Wattpad Application while the control class was taught without applying Wattpad Application. The instrument used in this study was reading test in the form of multiple-choice test. The data were analyzed by using t-test. After the data had been calculated, itwas found that t-observed was higher than t-table (11,61 > 2.00) with the degree of freedom df =58 at the level of significance α = 0.05. It meant that Ha was accepted and Ho was success fully rejected. In conclusion, PQRST Strategy by applying Wattpad Application Strategy significantly affects students’ achievement in reading comprehension.

Abstract

Writing in a foreign language is one of the most challenging skills. Consequently, grammar errors continue to be a significant challenge in writing for individuals learning English as a second language. Analyzing the errors made by EFL students is essential as they offer valuable insights into the second language acquisition process. This study aimed to identify the main kinds of grammatical issues and the key sources of grammatical errors in students' recount text. This research was conducted as a descriptive qualitative study. This study focused on the texts produced by first-semester students in the Information System Department during the General English Classroom. The data were identified and examined using the error theory proposed by Dulay et al. (1982) on surface approach taxonomy and the concept of the source of errors introduced by Brown (2007). The data revealed that the predominant type of grammatical error was misformation, with 35 errors or 37.33% of the total errors. The predominant source of grammatical errors was intralingual transfer, leading to 48 errors, which constituted 43.43% of the overall total.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether playing bingo has a meaningful impact on vocabulary mastery. Experimental research design was the method used in this study. For the academic year 2023–2024, class X students at MAS Alwasliyah 21 Firdaus were the subjects of this study. There were two X grade classrooms. Every class has twenty pupils in it. Thus, there are 40 pupils in total. Class X-2 was chosen as the control group, and Class X-1 as the experimental group. It is known that the t-test was used for data analysis after the data were computed using SPSS. Following the computation of the data, it is known that, at a significance level of α = 0.05, the t count value (11,374) is greater than the t table value (1,68) with degrees of freedom (df = 38). This suggests that the Null Hypothesis (H0) was successfully rejected and the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) was successfully accepted. Consequently, the usage of bingo games has a big impact on students' knowledge of the material.

Abstract

This study investigates students' perceptions of Context-Based Learning (CBL) and its effectiveness in enhancing reading skills, particularly in the context of digital and multicultural learning environments. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews and open-ended questionnaires with 30 ninth-grade students at SMP Plus Shafiyyatul Amaliyyah. Thematic analysis was conducted to explore the students' experiences and perceptions regarding CBL. The findings revealed that students generally hold positive views toward CBL, with 85% reporting increased engagement when reading materials were connected to real-life contexts. Furthermore, 70% noted an improvement in their understanding of complex texts. However, challenges emerged in digital reading environments, as 60% of participants expressed difficulties in navigating digital platforms, which impacted their comprehension. Additionally, the integration of culturally relevant contexts significantly motivated students and enhanced their understanding of reading materials. This research fills a critical gap in understanding students' perspectives on CBL in relation to reading skills development. It highlights the importance of adapting CBL strategies for digital contexts and diverse classrooms to improve educational outcomes. The study calls for enhanced teacher training to effectively implement CBL in these settings. Keyword: Students’ Perception, Context-Based Learning, reading skill.
