Abstract

The dynamic and ever-growing economic conditions of Indonesia have created an important context in the relationship between the economy and CSR. This study aims to describe and analyze two main issues: 1) the origins of PT Djarum and the establishment of CSR through the Djarum Foundation, and 2) the role of CSR at PT Djarum and its impact on the quality of life for the community in Kudus from 1986 to 1998. This research uses historical research methods, applying steps that include heuristics (source collection), source criticism (analysis of the validity and reliability of sources), interpretation (interpretation of the meaning of historical data), and historiography (writing history). The results of this study show that PT Djarum's CSR activities have had a significant impact on improving the standard of living of the Kudus community. Scholarship programs, social assistance, athlete training, cultural preservation, and environmental conservation not only strengthen the relationship between the company and the community but also form a positive image of the company in the long term. Thus, PT Djarum's CSR in the New Order era was not only a business strategy but also a form of the company's moral and social responsibility toward local community development.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the existence of the Muara Jambi temple complex in the course of Indonesian History. As one of the largest Buddhist temple complexes in Southeast Asia, Muara Jambi is not widely known by the Indonesian people. Muara Jambi has only been known as a large number of people as the name of an area without knowing that there are important sites in the course of ancient Indonesian history in it. The temple heritage that has been more widely known on the island of Java and is used as the main historical tourist destination for the relics of the Hindu and Buddhist periods, the lack of writing and research on Muara Jambi is one of the main causes of people's ignorance about the Muara Jambi temple complex. One of them is about its status and existence in the history of the kingdoms in Sumatra, which eventually led to two major kingdoms, namely the Malay and Srivijaya Kingdoms.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the dynamics of changes in Sundanese identity after the Bubat War, and how this event continues to influence their views on history and culture into the contemporary era. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method with a historical approach. The purpose of this method is to understand the historical context in a structured manner and its impact on certain events or phenomena. The results of this study indicate that the Bubat War had a significant impact on the identity and culture of the Sundanese and Javanese people. This history not only left disappointment, but also created perspectives and cultural attitudes that were passed down from generation to generation. However, the positive impact of this event strengthened the identity of each tribe as an independent and competitive group. In addition, it can be said that in this modern era, the negative impact of the Bubat War itself has begun to erode and fade.

Abstract

This study examines the Mataram Kingdom’s historical significance during Java’s golden age, focusing on Sanjaya’s role in its socio-political and cultural development. It investigates Sanjaya’s origins, his contributions to Mataram, cultural diffusion in ancient Java, and the region’s geopolitical landscape. A multidisciplinary approach integrates historical analysis, linguistic studies, and archaeology. By analyzing inscriptions, artifacts, and historical texts, the study explores Sanjaya’s leadership, cultural exchanges, and Java’s geopolitical context. It also considers hypotheses linking Sanjaya’s lineage to Chenla and potential ties between Java’s Rakai Panunggalan of the Shailendra dynasty and Cambodia’s King Jayavarman II. Findings reveal Sanjaya’s key role in shaping Mataram’s governance and integrating Indian influences, such as the Mahabharata, with local traditions. The study suggests a possible connection between Sanjaya and Cambodian royalty, though further evidence is needed. This research enhances the understanding of Southeast Asia’s historical dynamics, providing a nuanced perspective on ancient Java’s socio-political and cultural evolution. It contributes to academic discourse and serves as a foundation for future studies.

Abstract

The Saung Budaya Sumedang (Sabusu) has played a pivotal role as a center for arts and culture in Jatinangor, Sumedang Regency, since its establishment in 2000. This study aims to examine the historical development of Sabusu, analyzing its contributions to preserving local arts and culture amidst evolving social dynamics from 2000 to 2023. Employing historical research methods encompassing heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography, the study draws on primary and secondary data, including interviews, videos, and related academic literature. Results indicate that Sabusu has undergone significant transformations, including name changes and shifts in management. Initially a hub for traditional arts, Sabusu faced challenges due to privatization and commercialization, leading to diminished cultural activities. However, since 2019, revitalization efforts by the Ibu Djati Foundation have restored its role as a cultural and educational space. Despite facing modern challenges such as globalization and shifting youth interests, Sabusu continues to adapt by organizing traditional art programs and fostering community engagement. This study underscores the importance of Sabusu as a model for cultural preservation and its potential to inspire similar initiatives in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the Kalitaman Hotel in Salatiga as one of the representations of colonial modernity in a small town. Through historical methods, including heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography, this study successfully presents a historical narrative that a building, such as a hotel, not only functions as a place to stay, but also as a symbol of colonial modernity in terms of architecture and socio-cultural functions. The Kalitaman Hotel was built in a tropical architectural style that adapts to the local climate, but still reflects a European style. This is because Salatiga is a city that is used as one of the residences for Dutch citizens who visit or settle in central Java. In addition, this hotel became an important socio-political and cultural meeting space, both for colonial and local elites. Activities such as dance parties, bridge competitions, and visits by important figures show that this hotel became a meeting point between the social networks of the Dutch East Indies and the local conditions of Salatiga. After independence, the function of the hotel underwent a transformation but remained a strategic social space. This study shows that colonial modernity was not only centered in big cities, but also had a strong influence on small towns like Salatiga.
