Abstract

Socio-emotional development is a critical aspect of growth during school-age years. It is characterized by the child’s ability to adapt to their environment, establish friendships, and manage emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Developing these skills early is essential to ensure children grow and develop as expected. This study aimed to identify the factors influencing socio-emotional development among elementary school children at the Advent Education Foundation in Palopo City in 2025. A quantitative analytic descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach was used. The study employed total sampling, involving 32 respondents from grades V and VI. The instruments included the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) to assess socio-emotional problems and a separate questionnaire to evaluate influencing factors. Data were analyzed using SPSS with the Chi-Square test. Statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between socio-emotional development and internal factors such as child health, home atmosphere, or family economic status. However, external factors showed significant associations: family dynamics (p = 0.022), learning environment (p = 0.003), and peer interaction (p = 0.041). These findings indicate that socio-emotional development in children is significantly influenced by external factors, particularly family support, the comfort of the learning environment, and peer relationships. Therefore, strengthening family involvement and fostering positive learning and peer environments are vital for enhancing children's socio-emotional development.

Abstract

Stress is a condition in which physical, environmental, and social factors become dysregulated. The body responds to stress originating from psychosocial factors—such as emotional pressure or life challenges—through physiological, psychological, or behavioral reactions that can become excessive and unrecognized. This study aimed to examine the relationship between stress levels and coping mechanisms during thesis preparation among undergraduate midwifery students at Universitas Mega Buana Palopo in 2025. A descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was used. The study population consisted of undergraduate midwifery students currently working on their theses. Total sampling was applied, involving 40 respondents. Data were collected using stress level and coping mechanism questionnaires, and analyzed using SPSS version 26 with the Chi-Square test. Results showed that among 40 respondents, the majority experienced moderate stress (40%). Among them, 3 students (7.5%) used adaptive coping mechanisms, while 13 students (32.5%) applied maladaptive coping mechanisms. Statistical analysis using the Chi-Square test revealed a significant relationship (p = 0.001 < 0.05) between stress levels and coping mechanisms. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between stress levels and coping mechanisms during thesis preparation among undergraduate midwifery students at Universitas Mega Buana Palopo in 2025.

Abstract

Stress is a state of physical and psychological tension that can disrupt both mental and physical health. According to the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), approximately 19 million adolescents in Indonesia experienced mental health disorders. Stress is commonly defined as a process in which individuals evaluate an event as a threat, challenge, or danger. This study aimed to examine the relationship between coping mechanisms and stress levels among adolescents experiencing parental conflict at SMK Negeri 3 Bekasi City. A quantitative method was used to describe phenomena based on collected data. The study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach to assess the relationship between independent and dependent variables. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 216 adolescents aged 15–18 years using a simple random sampling technique. The results of the Pearson Chi-Square test revealed a significant relationship between coping mechanisms and stress levels (p = 0.000). This finding indicates that coping mechanisms are strongly associated with adolescent stress in the context of parental conflict. These results may serve as a reference for educators, parents, and adolescents to better understand the importance of adaptive coping strategies in managing stress caused by family conflicts.

Abstract

The rising prevalence of diabetes mellitus as a major chronic disease poses a significant global health concern, particularly due to its potential complications such as diabetic foot ulcers. Adequate knowledge of diabetes is essential to promote effective preventive behaviors. This study aimed to examine the relationship between knowledge and preventive behaviors toward diabetic foot ulcers among diabetes mellitus patients at UPTD Pengasinan Public Health Center, Bekasi City. A descriptive analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted, involving 82 respondents selected from a population of 100 using Slovin’s formula. A simple random sampling technique was applied, and data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire. The results showed a significant relationship between knowledge level and diabetic foot ulcer prevention behavior, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) based on the Chi-Square test. Most respondents were aged 31–45 years, predominantly female, had been living with diabetes for more than five years, held a high school education, and were mostly unemployed. Univariate analysis indicated that the majority of patients had good knowledge and fairly good preventive behaviors. These findings highlight the importance of patient education in the prevention of diabetic foot complications.

Abstract

One of the leading causes of death in Indonesia—such as cardiac arrest—requires rapid intervention through Basic Life Support (BLS). Cardiac arrest can occur at any time and may be fatal if not addressed immediately. BLS is a fundamental skill that everyone should possess, as it plays a critical role in increasing the chances of survival in life-threatening situations. Many cardiac arrest cases happen outside of medical settings, known as Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA). This study aimed to assess the effect of BLS education on the knowledge of Youth Red Cross (PMR) members at SMAN 12 Bekasi City, considering the observed lack of BLS knowledge among members. A quantitative method with a pre-experimental design was applied, using a one-group pre-test post-test approach. The study involved all 59 PMR members through total sampling. Data analysis using a paired sample t-test showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores, with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that the null hypothesis was rejected. The findings confirm that BLS education had a significant positive effect on the participants’ knowledge levels. The study concluded that there was a notable increase in BLS knowledge among PMR members after the educational intervention.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition in which the growth and development of toddlers are delayed due to chronic malnutrition, resulting in height that is not appropriate for age. Stunting remains a significant public health issue globally, nationally, and locally, with concerning prevalence rates despite a gradual decline in recent years. Mothers play a crucial role in stunting prevention, as they are the primary caregivers of toddlers. Inadequate maternal practices may increase the risk of stunting. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge, attitudes, and the role of posyandu (integrated health post) cadres and maternal practices in stunting prevention among toddlers in the working area of Wara Public Health Center, Palopo City, in 2025. This quantitative study used a descriptive analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 83 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed significant relationships between maternal knowledge (p = 0.018), attitudes (p = 0.016), and the role of posyandu cadres (p = 0.040) with maternal practices in preventing stunting. These findings indicate that knowledge, attitude, and the support of posyandu cadres are important factors influencing maternal efforts to prevent stunting in toddlers.

Abstract

Children with growth disorders are those who, compared to normal children, have lower mental, intellectual, social, and emotional conditions. Meeting nutritional needs is a key factor in achieving optimal growth and development in line with genetic potential. An inappropriate dietary pattern can cause nutritional problems in toddlers, thereby hindering their growth and development. This study aimed to determine the effect of nutritional intervention on the health of children with growth disorders in the Ratahan Community Health Center working area. This research employed an experimental approach using a pre-experimental one-shot case study design. The variables included the independent variable (nutritional intervention) and the dependent variable (children’s health/nutritional status). The population consisted of 30 toddlers aged 1–5 years, with a sample of 9 toddlers determined using the Referer formula. Data were collected through questionnaires and observation sheets, processed using SPSS 26, and analyzed using a paired t-test. The results showed that respondents experienced an improvement in health status, as reflected by nutritional status, with 2 toddlers (22.2%) improving from undernourished to normal nutritional status. The study concluded that nutritional intervention had a significant effect on the health of children with growth disorders (p = 0.000), with p < α (0.005), indicating a relationship between nutritional intervention and children’s health. Recommendation: Mothers should be more proactive in preparing and providing a variety of nutritious foods to toddlers.
