Abstract

This study aims to explore how students' psychological needs, namely autonomy, competence, and relatedness, can be met or hindered in using the CANDIL (Maca Dina Digital Library) application, using the Self-Determination Theory (SDT) approach. The method used is qualitative with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The results showed that the autonomy aspect tends to be fulfilled even though it is limited by the variety of collections, the competence aspect is still constrained by features that -are confusing for some students who use the CANDIL. It can also be seen that the relatedness aspect is still not maximized due to the lack of interaction space between users. In conclusion, although the CANDIL application has provided easy access and some support for reading interest for students using the CANDIL, the fulfillment of the three psychological needs has not been maximized. This shows that strategies to increase interest in reading in the digital era do not simply rely on adequate technology, but must also consider psychological or motivational factors that can affect the experience and increase interest in reading for users.

Abstract

This study aims to find out and evaluate the quality of circulation services based on user perceptions, as well as identify service dimensions that need to be maintained, improved, or improved in the library of library of Universitas Sains dan Teknologi Indonesia. By using a quantitative descriptive. The results of the study show that overall, the quality of circulation services at the Library of Universitas Sains dan Teknologi Indonesia is quite good. Nevertheless, there is a gap between the expected services and the services received. The Affect of Service dimension obtained a relatively high score, indicating a fairly satisfactory performance of librarians. Meanwhile, the dimensions of Information Control and Library as Place show results that are still below the expectations of users and it is suggested that the academic library increase the number and quality of human resources in the circulation section, update and add to the collection according to the needs of the study program, and improve facilities and infrastructure, especially the internet network and other service support facilities. This research is expected to be useful to add literature and scientific references related to the evaluation of the quality of library services, especially circulation services using the LibQual+ ™ method approach and can be used as a basis for improving circulation services in the academic library and other universities if they feel that they are experiencing similar things so that they can improve professionalism in providing services.

Abstract

This study investigates how the Turnitin-based similarity check service is implemented at Esa Unggul University Library to uphold academic integrity within higher education. The scope of this study covers an evaluation of the effectiveness of similarity check services in reducing plagiarism and enhancing academic ethics awareness within the campus environment. The main objective is to explore the perspectives of lecturers and librarians regarding the use of similarity check services, as well as the challenges and opportunities encountered during its implementation. A qualitative case study method was applied, utilizing in-depth interviews and observations involving librarians and lecturers from various faculties that have implemented similarity check policies. The key findings indicate that the similarity check service not only functions as a plagiarism detection tool but also serves as an educational medium to improve academic literacy among the academic community. Nevertheless, the library's involvement in institutional policy formulation and the strengthening of cross-unit collaboration need further development. This article contributes new insights into the importance of integrating similarity check services in fostering an honest and dignified academic culture in Indonesian higher education institutions.

Abstract

Literacy serves as a crucial foundation for students' academic success and personal development, particularly at the elementary education level. This study aims to analyze the role of the library at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 1 Surabaya in supporting student literacy development. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, this research examines literacy programs, resource availability, and perceptions of students and teachers regarding the library's function as a literacy center. The findings indicate that the MIN 1 Surabaya library implements various strategic initiatives, such as providing diverse reading collections, the "Read 15 Minutes" program, and digital literacy introductions, which significantly enhance students' reading interest and literacy skills. However, challenges related to the optimal utilization of information technology, collection updates, and limited human resources still need to be addressed to maximize the library's role. This research provides practical recommendations for developing the library as an effective literacy center in madrasahs.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence technology is widely considered a catalyst for transforming the role of libraries in the digital era. This study aims to examine and analyze the application of AI technology in the library context and provide strategic recommendations for the development of AI-based library services that can optimally improve the library visitor experience. The study used a systematic literature review approach. From the results of the search and selection of articles through Google Scholar, there were 36 articles that met the criteria for further analysis. The results show that there are seven themes that can be raised as a basis for effective AI implementation in improving library services and user experience, namely: Library transformation, the role and benefits of AI technology in library services, the implementation of AI in various aspects of library services, the use of AI to personalize library services, the impact of AI on library operational efficiency, AI-based collaboration and knowledge sharing models between libraries, and challenges in implementing AI in libraries. Based on the results of the synthesis, it can be reported that AI is able to transform libraries through cataloging automation, service personalization, 24/7 interactive chatbots, and intelligent recommendation systems that improve operational efficiency and user satisfaction (smart search). AI can help librarians analyze visit data to understand user interest trends. The potential of AI creates a more engaging, efficient and meaningful visiting experience, although the implementation of AI in libraries faces challenges related to data privacy, infrastructure, and the readiness of library human resources.

Abstract

The low level of reading interest among Indonesian children reported by UNESCO to be merely 0.01% highlights an urgent need for innovative approaches to promote literacy engagement. The digital library emerges as a relevant solution; however, most existing services have not been specifically designed to cater to elementary school students. This study aims to develop a Digital Library based on the Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM) as a medium to enhance reading motivation among students at MIN 7 Tulungagung. The research employed the DSRM framework, encompassing the stages of problem identification, system design, prototype development, implementation, and evaluation. The primary users of the system were elementary school students, while validation involved expert review (validators) and direct user testing by students. Data collection techniques included observation, questionnaires, and documentation. The findings indicate that the developed Digital Library system achieved overall ratings in the “good” to “very good” categories. The user interface (UI) aspect obtained the highest score of 93.75%, followed by user compatibility (87.50%) and system functionality (87.50%). Conversely, data reliability and security received the lowest rating, at 75.00%. Implementation testing with students also demonstrated highly positive responses, with the indicator “Willing to use the application again” achieving a score of 95%. The students appeared enthusiastic, demonstrated independent use of the application, and exhibited increased motivation to read after exploring its features. In conclusion, the Digital Library developed using the DSRM approach has proven to be both feasible and effective in enhancing reading interest among elementary school students. Future work is recommended to strengthen data security mechanisms and expand the diversity of reading materials to further optimize the system’s contribution to children’s literacy development.
