Abstract

The nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) is an interesting delivery system that can protect the encapsulated drugs and improve their dissolution, permeability and over all bioavailability. The aim of the present study was to prepare dabigatran etexilate (DAE)-encapsulated NLCs (DAE-NLCs) using glyceryl monostearate (GMS) and oleic acid (OA) as solid and liquid lipid matrix respectively, together with different surfactant types and ratios; DAE-NLCs were prepared using the hot emulsification-ultrasonication technique and the prepared formulations were characterized in terms of their particle size distribution, encapsulation efficiency (EE%), zeta potential, surface morphology and physical state characteristics. The prepared lipid nanoparticles shows a spherical shape with a particle size (62.4±5.75nm), poly dispersity index (PDI) of (0.286±0.001), zeta potential (-33.81±0.001 mV) the EE% was (92.42±2.31) and the drug loading capacity (LC %) was found to be (7.69±0.17). the in-vitro drug release study shows a bi-phasic drug release pattern with initial burst followed by a prolonged drug releasing phase with a 92% of the loaded drug was released in 24hr the release kinetics was fitted to Korsmyere-Peppas model with anomalous release mechanism. The solid state characterization depict an amorphous state of entrapped drug within the lipid matrix of the optimized DAE-NLCs. Short term stability study shows no significant change in nanoparticle characterization at refrigerator compared to room temperature. DAE-NLCs could be a potential delivery device for improved drug loading with controlled release properties that will improves oral bioavailability of the drug. Keywords: Dabigatran Etexilate, Hot emulsification/ultrasonication, Nanostructured lipid carriers, Cremophor-EL.

Abstract

In this work, a new co- polymer was synthesized from the reaction of pentarythritol with fumaric acid to form the linear co- polymer. Three different moles of acrylic acid monomer (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 mole), were added to obtain three new co- polymers. Swelling of the polymer samples were measured in the buffer solution in the basic and acidic medium. The albumin protein was loaded onto the co- polymer samples and then the release of the albumin protein was measured in the acid and basic medium. The results obtained showed that the protein loading and release process in the basic medium were higher than in the acidic medium, indicating that the combined co-polymer is selective in the medium. Keywords: Hydro gel; Polymer; Condensation polymerization; Three-dimensional network; Selectivity; Swelling; Buffer solution;  Drag delivery system.

Abstract

Background: Low public knowledge and understanding, contributing to late diagnosis, has identified cancer morbidity and mortality from breast cancer. This study was designed to describe breast cancer knowledge and awareness and evaluate breast screening practice among Yogyakarta women. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 350 low socioeconomic women in rural and urban Yogyakarta areas was conducted using a validated self-designed structured questionnaire. Analyzing data using descriptive statistics. Results: A vast majority of respondents knew that breast cancer is a severe disease (85.14%) and can be detected as early as possible (60.00%). Genetic and family cancer history was the best accepted risk factor for breast cancer (61.43%), followed by oral contraception (44.57%), radiation (31.43%), smoking (28.86%) and alcohol intake (21.71%). Over half of respondents (65.14%) correctly identified niple and color discharge as one of the symptoms of breast cancer, followed by breast lump (60.00%), breast swelling (56.29%) and breast fluid (44.57%). While 56.57 percent of respondents had heard of breast self-examination ( BSE) and mammography, only 26.86 percent of respondents had regularly performed BSE, and only 28.00 percent of respondents reported daily mammography. A large proportion of respondents (72.86%) never diagnosed breast cancer. Conclusion: In Yogyakarta, the study reported inadequate breast cancer awareness and poor breast screening practice among women with low socioeconomic status aged 20-50 years. Health care professionals are fairly required to educate women about breast cancer and promote early detection and breast cancer screening programs to prevent and reduce breast cancer incidence and mortality.
