Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions held by students of the Digital Communication and Media Study Program at the Vocational School, IPB University, regarding cafes as alternative study spaces. The phenomenon of cafes shifting from recreational venues to academic spaces is growing alongside students' increasing need for study environments that are flexible, comfortable, and supported by digital technology. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews and documentation. The participants consisted of six students from the Class of 61 and 62, selected purposively due to their routine use of cafes for studying. The results indicate that students' positive perceptions of cafes as study spaces are shaped by three main factors: the availability of supporting facilities such as Wi-Fi, power outlets, air conditioning, and comfortable tables; an atmosphere that fosters a more conducive psychological state, thereby reducing academic stress; and opportunities for more flexible interaction and collaboration with fellow students. The findings also reveal that students view cafes not merely as places to study, but as spaces that support a balance between academic and social needs. This study concludes that cafes have transformed into a "third place" that accommodates both study activities and social interaction for students in the digital era. The research contributes to a deeper understanding of changing patterns in student study space usage within the context of digital culture and urban life.

Abstract

Optimizing school culture is a crucial strategy for creating a learning environment conducive to students' character formation and moral development. This study aims to analyze integrative strategies for character-based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in optimizing school culture, as well as to identify the supporting factors and challenges associated with their implementation. A qualitative approach utilizing library research methods was employed. Data were gathered from various relevant scholarly sources and analyzed using content analysis techniques, involving processes of data reduction, categorization, and conclusion drawing. The study reveals three primary implementation strategies: 1) integrating Islamic character values ​​into instructional materials, such as syllabi and lesson plans; 2) internalizing these values ​​through educators serving as role models and the habitual practice of religious activities within the school environment; and 3) fostering a religious school culture through policies and support from the school principal. Supporting factors include the commitment of the entire school community and the availability of facilities for religious observance, while the primary challenge lies in the lack of alignment between the values ​​implemented at school and those found in the students' family and community environments. Based on the analysis of the literature, integrating PAI instruction with school culture has the potential to enhance students' discipline, integrity, and religiosity. Therefore, more intensive partnerships between schools and parents are required to ensure that character cultivation continues sustainably in both the school and home environments.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the diversity of higher plants in Tikonu Village, Wundulako District, Kolaka Regency. This was a quantitative descriptive study employing a survey method with a plot-transect technique across three observation stations within the plantation area. Each plot measured 10 m × 10 m. Data were analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index, relative abundance, evenness, and dominance. The results revealed the presence of 16 higher plant species, comprising a total of 70 individuals. The diversity index (H') values ​​for Stations I, II, and III were 1.47, 1.30, and 1.56, respectively, all falling within the moderate category. Evenness (E) values ​​ranged from 0.81 to 0.92, while dominance values ​​ranged from 0.25 to 0.32. The species exhibiting the highest relative abundance at each station were Cocos nucifera, Theobroma cacao, and Musa paradisiaca. The findings indicate that the plantation area in Tikonu Village possesses a moderate level of higher plant diversity, characterized by a relatively even distribution of individuals and a low level of dominance.

Abstract

Canva-based learning media represents a digital innovation increasingly adopted in Vocational High Schools (SMK); however, in-depth studies regarding its impact on informatics learning outcomes from the perspectives of both teachers and students—remain limited. This study aims to analyze the impact of Canva-based learning media on the informatics learning outcomes of Grade X students at SMK Wikrama Bogor. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing semi-structured, in-depth interviews with two informatics teachers and four Grade X students selected via purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and qualitatively, with validity ensured through source triangulation. The study reveals four key findings: First, Canva facilitates the understanding of informatics material through concise and structured visual presentations; second, Canva boosts student motivation and engagement by allowing for creative self-expression; third, Canva improves the efficiency of assignment completion, enabling students to dedicate more cognitive energy to the subject matter itself; and fourth, challenges related to internet connectivity reliance can be mitigated through adaptive teaching strategies. It is concluded that Canva-based learning media positively influences the informatics learning outcomes of Grade X students at SMK Wikrama Bogor, affecting both cognitive and affective domains.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low critical thinking skills of Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 11 Mataram during biology lessons, evidenced by a lack of active participation and learning outcomes that failed to meet the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 75. This situation stemmed from instruction that remained teacher-centered and did not foster higher-order thinking skills. The study aimed to enhance students' critical thinking skills by implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model supported by Student Worksheets (LKPD) for the topic of the reproductive system. This research was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) study conducted over two cycles each comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages involving 17 Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 11 Mataram. Data were collected using essay tests based on critical thinking indicators and observation sheets regarding the implementation of instruction. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods. The results showed that the students' average critical thinking score rose from 49 in Cycle I to 77 in Cycle II, while the percentage of learning mastery increased from 35.2% to 88.2%. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the implementation of the PBL model supported by LKPD can improve students' critical thinking skills in biology learning.

Abstract

Instagram has become a widely used social media platform for Gen Z to cultivate a self-image and gain social recognition. However, the pressure to portray an ideal life often leads to digital social pressure. This has prompted the use of "second accounts" as alternative spaces that are more private and authentic. This study aims to analyze the role of Instagram second accounts in alleviating the pressure Gen Z faces to conform to social media standards. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with Gen Z individuals who are active Instagram users and possess a second account. The findings indicate that second accounts serve as a more comfortable and secure space for users to express themselves freely and authentically, without the fear of negative judgment from others. Furthermore, second accounts help users reduce social pressure and maintain a balance between their public and personal identities on social media. Thus, a second account functions not merely as an additional account but also as a digital communication strategy for Gen Z in navigating social pressures within the digital realm.

Abstract

This study examines the communication style employed by TikTok content creator @sadampermanawiyana and its impact on audience responses. The research is grounded in the phenomenon of the growing role of content creators on TikTok in shaping public opinion and interaction. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with one expert informant, three active users, and one passive user. The results reveal that the creator employs a combination of relaxed, precise, dramatic, impression-leaving, open, and friendly styles, packaged in an informative storytelling format using semi-formal language. Audience responses encompass cognitive (understanding), affective (feelings), and conative (action) dimensions. These findings indicate that a flexible communication style tailored to the characteristics of the young audience on TikTok is a determining factor in the effectiveness of digital communication. The study underscores the importance of content creators selecting the appropriate communication style to foster meaningful audience interaction and engagement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the communication strategies employed by the Child Social Welfare Institution (LKSA) Yaatama to build trust specifically regarding integrity and transparency among regular donors of its monthly financial aid program. A descriptive qualitative research method was used, with data collected through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with institution administrators and donor representatives. The results indicate that LKSA Yaatama utilizes a two-way communication strategy by leveraging WhatsApp for personal, direct messaging to share detailed accountability reports. This medium is considered effective under Media Richness Theory, as it enables the transmission of rich content such as text, PDF documents, and visual records that validates the distribution of funds. Additionally, an interpersonal communication approach involving door-to-door visits is maintained to foster emotional closeness and demonstrate benevolence. Challenges such as information overload and varying donor personalities are mitigated through routine evaluations and a humanistic approach. In conclusion, consistent information transparency and warm personal interactions are the key factors in maintaining the loyalty of regular donors.

Abstract

The evolution of digital technology has transformed how university students access information; the internet has become a dynamic visual ecosystem with penetration projected to reach 80% by 2025. This phenomenon has driven the transformation of social media platforms like TikTok into primary search engines for Generation Z, a demographic that prioritizes instant gratification and visual formats. This study aims to analyze the shift in digital information-seeking patterns among students at the IPB Vocational School regarding TikTok, as well as to explore the information verification strategies they employ. A descriptive qualitative approach was utilized, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving active IPB Vocational School students. Drawing on Niche Theory, the results indicate that TikTok has established dominance over conventional search engines in the category of technical tutorial searches, primarily due to its efficiency and speed. Scientific findings suggest that short-video formats satisfy cognitive needs through media richness (audio-visual content), which helps reduce ambiguity when understanding precise practical procedures. Furthermore, the "For Your Page" (FYP) feature shifts behavior from active searching to the passive reception of information automatically curated by algorithms. Regarding validity, students employ "social proof" mechanisms via comment sections and practice source triangulation cross-checking information against Google or scholarly articles to avoid misinformation. The study concludes that while TikTok has evolved into a crucial information-seeking tool for vocational students, strong digital literacy awareness remains essential to ensure the accuracy of the information consumed and to effectively support the development of their practical competencies.

Abstract

The development of digital technology encourages the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), such as ChatGPT, in students' academic activities, especially for searching for references, generating ideas, summarizing materials, and assisting in the preparation of assignments. This study aims to describe the use of ChatGPT in completing assignments for students of the Digital Communication and Media Study Program and to determine students' assessment of the benefits of its use. This study uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 39 students of the Digital Communication and Media Study Program who had used ChatGPT in completing academic assignments. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics with a Likert scale and calculation of average scores. The results showed that the use of ChatGPT in completing assignments was in the high category with an overall average score of 4.21. Most respondents gave a positive assessment of the use of ChatGPT, as indicated by the percentage of respondents who agreed and strongly agreed on each indicator, which was between 79.5% and 92.3%. ChatGPT was considered to help students in generating ideas, understanding and summarizing materials, composing academic writing, increasing the efficiency of assignment work, saving time, and simplifying the assignment preparation process. The majority of students continue to check and edit the results provided by ChatGPT as a form of academic responsibility. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that ChatGPT is utilized as an aid in completing academic assignments and makes a positive contribution to the student learning process. Its use can improve time efficiency, simplify assignment preparation, and support understanding of the material without replacing students' role in critical thinking and maintaining academic integrity.
