Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the semiotic meaning of Charles Sanders Peirce which includes icons, indexes, and symbols constructed in the religious values of Diwan Imam Syafi'i. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The object of research is several verses in Syarah Diwan Imam Syafi'i containing religious values related to aqidah, sharia, and morals. The results of the study concluded: The religious values found in Diwan Imam Syafi'i are represented through three main aspects, namely (1) Surrendering to Allah which reflects the value of faith in destiny and tawakkal, (2) Knowledge as the Light of Allah which emphasizes the importance of maintaining oneself from sin so that knowledge can be accepted properly, and (3) Noble Moral Behavior which includes qana'ah (contentment), humility, sincerity, and honesty. The meanings of icons, indexes, and symbols in the verses clearly show the relationship between literary expressions and spiritual teachings in Islam. The myths in Diwan Imam Syafi'i are depicted as symbols related to spiritual learning used in various verses.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the challenges faced by teachers in the process of teaching Arabic at Madrasah Aliyah, the obstacles experienced by students in learning Arabic, the strategies applied by teachers to address these challenges, and the effectiveness of these strategies in overcoming difficulties in Arabic language learning. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach to provide an in-depth understanding of the challenges and instructional strategies in Arabic language learning at Madrasah Aliyah. Primary data were obtained from teachers, students, and school personnel, while secondary data were drawn from instructional documents. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation using a triangulated procedure. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, resulting in accurate, contextual, and credible findings. The research reveals that Arabic language learning at Madrasah Aliyah faces multidimensional challenges, such as students’ low linguistic competence, limited facilities, insufficient methodological variety, low motivation, and minimal language exposure. Linguistic, psychological, and methodological barriers mutually reinforce students’ learning difficulties. To address these issues, teachers implement strategies focusing on language reinforcement, method variation, motivation enhancement, and the use of instructional media. Communicative strategies, vocabulary enrichment, positive reinforcement, and audiovisual media are found to be the most effective. Learning outcomes can be optimized when these strategies are applied consistently with adequate facility support and ongoing teacher training.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the forms and characteristics of innovative and creative Arabic language learning models implemented at Madrasah Aliyah, the factors that support and hinder their application, and the impact of these innovative models on students’ motivation and engagement in the learning process. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach to provide an in-depth portrayal of Arabic language learning innovations in Madrasah Aliyah. Data were obtained from teachers, students, school principals, and documents through observations, interviews, and documentation. The analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, data reduction, data display, and verification. Validity was ensured through triangulation, allowing the processes, contexts, and dynamics of learning to be understood comprehensively. The findings show that innovation in Arabic language learning at Madrasah Aliyah reflects a transformation from traditional methods toward collaborative, contextual, and technology-based learning. These innovations appear in project-based learning, digital learning activities, and socio-cultural contextualization. Their success is influenced by teacher competence, student motivation, institutional support, and technological facilities. The innovative models enhance students’ motivation, engagement, and confidence in using Arabic, while reinforcing a student-centered learning paradigm that is adaptive to 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to dismantle the representation of women in Muhammad Husain Haikal’s novel Zainab through a semiotic approach. As the first modern novel in Arabic literature, Zainab does not merely present a romantic narrative but serves as a critical portrait of the Egyptian social structure in the early 20th century. This research employs a descriptive-analytical method, utilizing Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework which focuses on three levels of signification are denotation, connotation, and myth (ideology). Data were collected through close-reading and note-taking techniques, followed by an in-depth analysis to establish the connection between linguistic signs and socio-cultural realities. The findings reveal that the figure of Zainab is represented through five primary constructions 1) Economic exploitation through an asymmetric wage system, 2) The myth of institutionalized suffering through the symbol of the weary body, 3) Critique of domestic authority regarding forced marriage, 4) The commodification of women within the feudal marriage market, and 5) The synthesis of female suffering with the homeland through an ecofeminist perspective. These results uncover that Haikal employs the female figure as a medium to challenge patriarchal ideology and the feudal system (Izbah) that constrains female agency. Consequently, this study reaffirms the position of the novel Zainab as a social manifesto demanding humanitarian transformation and gender justice amidst the tensions between tradition and modernity

Abstract

This study examines neologisms in football terminology in the coverage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by the Arab media outlet Al Jazeera, focusing on three categories: neologisms, dakhil (loanwords), and mu‘arrab (Arabized terms). It aims to understand how modern Arabic adapts global terms without losing its identity, as well as how new terms shape contemporary football vocabulary. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, using digital news texts as data and analyzing them inductively through reduction, classification, and interpretation. The findings show that neologisms emerge through the extension of existing Arabic vocabulary or the creation of new phrases to explain rules, technologies, and game strategies. Dakhil retains foreign terms according to international standards, while mu‘arrab adapts them to make them easier to read and pronounce in Arabic. These three categories complement each other, making media Arabic flexible, adaptive, and communicative. The findings contribute to the development of modern Arabic vocabulary, language learning, and the understanding of international sports terminology.
