Abstract

This study aims to identify the forms and characteristics of innovative and creative Arabic language learning models implemented at Madrasah Aliyah, the factors that support and hinder their application, and the impact of these innovative models on students’ motivation and engagement in the learning process. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach to provide an in-depth portrayal of Arabic language learning innovations in Madrasah Aliyah. Data were obtained from teachers, students, school principals, and documents through observations, interviews, and documentation. The analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, data reduction, data display, and verification. Validity was ensured through triangulation, allowing the processes, contexts, and dynamics of learning to be understood comprehensively. The findings show that innovation in Arabic language learning at Madrasah Aliyah reflects a transformation from traditional methods toward collaborative, contextual, and technology-based learning. These innovations appear in project-based learning, digital learning activities, and socio-cultural contextualization. Their success is influenced by teacher competence, student motivation, institutional support, and technological facilities. The innovative models enhance students’ motivation, engagement, and confidence in using Arabic, while reinforcing a student-centered learning paradigm that is adaptive to 21st-century competencies.

Abstract

This study aims to dismantle the representation of women in Muhammad Husain Haikal’s novel Zainab through a semiotic approach. As the first modern novel in Arabic literature, Zainab does not merely present a romantic narrative but serves as a critical portrait of the Egyptian social structure in the early 20th century. This research employs a descriptive-analytical method, utilizing Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework which focuses on three levels of signification are denotation, connotation, and myth (ideology). Data were collected through close-reading and note-taking techniques, followed by an in-depth analysis to establish the connection between linguistic signs and socio-cultural realities. The findings reveal that the figure of Zainab is represented through five primary constructions 1) Economic exploitation through an asymmetric wage system, 2) The myth of institutionalized suffering through the symbol of the weary body, 3) Critique of domestic authority regarding forced marriage, 4) The commodification of women within the feudal marriage market, and 5) The synthesis of female suffering with the homeland through an ecofeminist perspective. These results uncover that Haikal employs the female figure as a medium to challenge patriarchal ideology and the feudal system (Izbah) that constrains female agency. Consequently, this study reaffirms the position of the novel Zainab as a social manifesto demanding humanitarian transformation and gender justice amidst the tensions between tradition and modernity

Abstract

This study examines neologisms in football terminology in the coverage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by the Arab media outlet Al Jazeera, focusing on three categories: neologisms, dakhil (loanwords), and mu‘arrab (Arabized terms). It aims to understand how modern Arabic adapts global terms without losing its identity, as well as how new terms shape contemporary football vocabulary. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method, using digital news texts as data and analyzing them inductively through reduction, classification, and interpretation. The findings show that neologisms emerge through the extension of existing Arabic vocabulary or the creation of new phrases to explain rules, technologies, and game strategies. Dakhil retains foreign terms according to international standards, while mu‘arrab adapts them to make them easier to read and pronounce in Arabic. These three categories complement each other, making media Arabic flexible, adaptive, and communicative. The findings contribute to the development of modern Arabic vocabulary, language learning, and the understanding of international sports terminology.

Abstract

This study aims to examine: junior high school teachers’ understanding of the fundamental concepts underlying the nature of the Indonesian Language and Literature curriculum; how teachers interpret the goals, scope, and components of the curriculum in their instructional practices; the factors that influence the level of teachers’ understanding of the curriculum’s nature; and the implications of teachers’ curriculum understanding for classroom instruction. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach to naturally portray junior high school teachers’ understanding of the nature of the Indonesian Language and Literature curriculum. Primary data were obtained through interviews, observations, and reviews of teaching documents, while secondary data were drawn from curriculum documents, implementation guidelines, teaching modules, and relevant literature. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. This approach enables a comprehensive portrayal of how teachers understand and implement the curriculum in their instructional practices. The study shows that the descriptive qualitative approach is effective for providing an in-depth and natural depiction of teachers’ understanding of the nature of the Indonesian Language and Literature curriculum at the junior high school level. Through complementary primary and secondary data, the research offers an authentic illustration of how teachers interpret and apply curriculum components. The use of interviews, observations, and documentation yields comprehensive data, while the Miles and Huberman analysis ensures systematic, accurate, and meaningful findings.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the interference between Arabic and Indonesian languages in speech and translation. Interference is defined as the influence of the source language (Arabic) on the target language (Indonesian) in the translation process. This research uses a qualitative method with text analysis and interview techniques. Research data was obtained from the results of online interviews and analysis of translation texts. Based on the research conducted, it shows that there is language interference between Arabic and Indonesian languages in Speech and Translation at the phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic levels. This interference is caused by several factors, namely the dominance of the mother tongue (Indonesian), lack of mastery of Arabic, and the habit of using Indonesian language structures in Arabic. Finally, this interference has an impact on the quality of speech and translation, so it is necessary to find solutions. Solutions that can be done include improving Arabic language proficiency, for example by maturing the mastery of the 4 skills (Istima', kalam, qiro'ah, and kitabah), training translation skills, and using appropriate dictionaries and references.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the construction of global meaning through the interaction of visual and linguistic signs on the packaging of Indomie export products in the Arabic version compared to the Indonesian domestic version. Using a library research method with a qualitative approach, this study applies Social Semiotics theory and the Grammar of Visual Design (GVD) proposed by Kress and van Leeuwen to examine the integrated modes of communication. The findings reveal significant semiotic adaptation strategies, in which verbal elements employ Arabic script to enhance information accessibility, while visual elements, particularly food illustrations, are modified to accommodate local culinary preferences in the Middle Eastern market. Spatially, the export packaging adopts a right-to-left reading pattern to ensure effective information value for target consumers. This study concludes that Indomie’s success in the global market relies on its ability to negotiate identity through multimodal curation that balances universal brand identity with local socio-cultural relevance. These findings contribute theoretically to strengthening multimodal literacy in international product packaging design.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of students’ Arabic reading skills among seventh-grade students at MTs Islam Bakti Asih. One of the main contributing factors is the limited availability of engaging and appropriate instructional media. To address this issue, this study implemented E-book-based learning as an instructional medium to improve students’ reading skills. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles. The participants consisted of 24 students from class VII A. The instructional process used a cooperative learning model to promote student interaction and collaboration. Each cycle included four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation, pre-tests and post-tests, and documentation, and were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative descriptive techniques. The results revealed a significant improvement in students’ reading skills following the implementation of E-book learning. Initial improvement was observed in the first cycle, with further enhancement evident in the second cycle, as indicated by the increasing number of students meeting the minimum mastery criteria. Therefore, integrating e-book learning within a cooperative learning framework proved effective in enhancing students’ Arabic reading skills.
