Abstract

Hypertension is a major public health problem with an increasing prevalence and is influenced by various biological, behavioral, and social factors. Nutritional status, sodium intake, family support, and perceptions of salted food consumption are considered potential contributors to the occurrence of hypertension, particularly in communities with high-salt dietary habits. This study aimed to analyze the association of nutritional status, sodium intake, family support, and perception of salted food consumption with hypertension among community members in the working area of the Palangkau Primary Health Care Center. This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 81 respondents aged 18–65 years were selected using proportional sampling. Data were collected through blood pressure measurements, anthropometric assessments to determine Body Mass Index, and structured interviews using a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, family support questionnaire, and perception of salted food consumption questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Spearman rank correlation test. The results showed that most respondents were classified as having mild hypertension, were overweight, and had poor sodium intake. Bivariate analysis indicated no significant association between nutritional status, sodium intake, family support, or perception of salted food consumption and hypertension (p > 0.05). This study concludes that hypertension is a multifactorial condition; therefore, hypertension control efforts should be implemented comprehensively through sustainable promotive and preventive approaches in primary health care services.

Abstract

In Indonesia, Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women remains a nutritional problem that increases the risk of pregnancy complications, preterm birth, and low birth weight, and contributes to stunting. Data from the working area of UPTD Puskesmas Barambai indicate increasing CED cases, while early marriage is still found in the community. This study aimed to determine the relationship between dietary patterns, nutritional knowledge, and early marriage with the incidence of CED among pregnant women in the working area of UPTD Puskesmas Barambai. A case–control design was used with 48 pregnant women, consisting of 16 cases and 32 controls. Data were collected through interviews using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) for dietary patterns, a nutritional knowledge questionnaire, early marriage age data, and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) measurements. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test with a significance level of α=0.05. The results showed that 33.4% of pregnant women experienced CED, 66.6% had poor dietary patterns, 22.9% had low nutritional knowledge, and 31.3% married early. There were significant relationships between dietary patterns, nutritional knowledge, and early marriage with CED incidence (p<0.05). Pregnant women are expected to improve dietary quality and strengthen nutrition knowledge through education, and early marriage prevention programs should be enhanced to reduce CED incidence.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem in toddlers that remains prevalent and can be influenced by factors starting from pregnancy until the child’s history of illness. This study aimed to determine the relationship between low birth weight (LBW), maternal nutritional status during pregnancy, and history of infectious diseases with the incidence of stunting among toddlers aged 6–59 months in the work area of UPTD Puskesmas Wanaraya. This research used an analytic observational method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 727 toddlers, with a total sample of 125 toddlers selected using proportionate sampling. The dependent variable was stunting incidence, while the independent variables were LBW, maternal nutritional status during pregnancy (CED based on MUAC), and infectious disease history (illness within the last month). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test with α = 0.05. The results showed that 44.8% of toddlers were stunted and 55.2% were not stunted. Toddlers with a history of LBW were 9.6%, mothers with CED history during pregnancy were 35.2%, and toddlers with a history of infectious diseases were 47.2%. Statistical analysis indicated no relationship between LBW and stunting (p = 0.325), and no relationship between maternal nutritional status during pregnancy and stunting (p = 0.631). However, there was a relationship between infectious diseases and stunting (p = 0.018). It is expected that parents improve prevention and management of infectious diseases in toddlers to reduce the risk of stunting.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period vulnerable to nutritional problems due to physical changes and lifestyle patterns. Data from July 2025 involving 91 adolescents at PPRSAR Mulia Satria showed varied nutritional status ranging from severely underweight to obese. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional knowledge, dietary intake, physical activity, and nutritional status. A cross-sectional study was conducted from October to November 2025 involving 91 adolescents. Dietary intake was assessed using a non-consecutive 2×24-hour food recall, physical activity using PAQ-A, and nutritional status based on WHO 2007 BMI-for-age standards. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant association between dietary intake and nutritional status, while nutritional knowledge and physical activity were not associated. It is concluded that dietary intake is the main determinant of adolescents’ nutritional status.
